In my personal experience at this school I was allowed to be openly racially profiled. And called racially disparaging terms. The staff witnessed and allowed this behavior. Children are sheltered in this environment so they can be around the type of people they desire. In addition this is why comments have been turned off for the school. I’m not the first or last one to experience racism at this school. I wish I spoke up sooner.

Our son joined the Albemarle School family at the age of 2 and there hasn't been a moment that we questioned our decision. This school is just that, family, and he has always felt special and safe. They challenge him and at the same time, celebrate his individuality! The teachers and staff go above and beyond everyday to ensure that each child gets the attention, love and education that they deserve.

Did you say bully? Not at this school. From housekeeping staff to head master, no one will make fun of another student or individual on school property or school function. The message is clear that r-e-s-p-e-c-t is something that we give and we receive daily.

My nephew usually has already completed his homework prior to coming home. When he does have additional assignments, he doesn't treat it as work. Most assignments are to make him "think outside of the box" allows him to explore things at his pace.

We have been blown away with Albemarle School. Their focus on character, & ability to close the gap between school and home has been fantastic! Our child's teacher keeps us up to date on our child's behavior, academic improvement, & overall attitude in real time. It has been a pleasure, & we are excited to see our child continue her education at this school!

Before transferring from a local public high school our son was not interested in college nor did he make good grades. However, after two years st Albemarle School, he is about to graduate, has been accepted into college and grades are good. The younger students look up to him and he sees himself as a role model and he's proud of that.

I have transitioned 3 of my boys to this school (2 from public schools & 1 from daycare) and they have soared academically. The small classrooms have been great for them. They look forward to coming to school everyday where they are being taught versus being tested every other week. They are participating in clubs and sports and going on field trips.

This is an amazing school! The small class sizes, rigorous curriculum, and friendly atmosphere are exactly what my children need. This school does inspire excellence and character in a nurturing environment, just as the mission statement says.

My boys and I love Albemarle School since they have been coming their grades have improved to A's&B's. My boys needed that one on one with the teachers and smaller class sizes. My boys love coming to school now they jump out of bed and ready to go where at the other school they would fight me every morning. The teachers and headmaster had even made time to work with the student one on one before or after school. I will be sending my boys back to Albemarle School and would recommend the school to everyone.

Great school with caring staff and faculty. Students are given a lot of individualized attention by super teachers! The staff are very familiar with all the students to due small class size. This is a great help to them as they progress from grade to grade.

The new headmaster, Dr. Holly Glenn, has done an amazing job turning this school around in such a short time. Starting this 2015-2016 school year, she has improved the quality of education by hiring only qualified staff (all teachers have a teaching degree or have majored in their subject area), requiring teachers to teach using the most recent state standards, and by providing interventions for struggling students. There have been so many improvements! I have multiple children that have attended this school for a few years now. They are being challenged and have shown so much growth in math and reading. The small classes are especially helpful for my youngest child. My children have attended public school and were successful there as well. We just love the close, welcoming atmosphere and personal attention that you just don't get in public school.

The headmaster and preschool director are highly motivated individuals that show their dedication to the school. Both of them show an enthusiasm for learning and are directly involved with the students. They are energetic and successful motivaters resulting in a staff that gives their best. My preschooler is well taken care of, he is loved, and he is treated like an individual. Importantly he is more than prepared for kindergarten.

While we attended Albemarle (2014-15)there was a total of 3 interim headmasters as well as over 10 teacher turn overs from K-12th grade. There is no flow in curriculum from year to year & books are bought from public schools when the public schools update their curriculum. This means the books at Albemarle are out of date but new to the school. Put kids quickly realized how far behind they were when they changed schools. Between moldy classrooms, constant staff changes & the lack of stable curriculum, we decided to leave Albemarle.

Terrible location to send your children. They change staff so frequently that you are surprised weekly with new people watching your children. Whatever curriculum they have is a waste, after removing my daughter we quickly began to see educational growth in her new setting.

I would highly recommend finding other options for your child.

This 2015-16 school year has almost all new staff and many new students. Questionnaires sent to parents and students are extremely positive. New staff and leadership have created a very rigorous, nurturing, caring environment. The students are challenged with rigorous work and are some of the nicest students you will ever meet. This is a fantastic school with an overarching philosophy of continuous improvement and an emphasis on respect for everyone. Parents report loving the teachers and the small class sizes that allow for differentiated learning. This school is highly recommended!

The staff at Albemarle School & Preschool are simply amazing people who have such a passion for children! They go above a beyond to make sure my child is in safe environment where he is able to grow and learn. I love the small classes which give the teachers the ability to give each child the time & attention they need and deserve. I graduated from Albemarle. I would not take anything for the years I was there. There are definitely advantages to attending a smaller school. You feel like a member of one big family working towards the same goal. I have spoken with other graduates who feel the same way! Many graduates that I know went on to the college/university of their choice! Some are business owners...some are teachers...some are nurses....some are doctors!!!

Horrible school. Although there are some decent teachers, the education your child will receive is subpar at best. The school board knows nothing about education and only cares about keeping the school open for their children. "Outsiders" are not welcome and will be relentlessly bullied by long time students until they quit. The new headmaster does nothing about the bullying and is in lock step with the school board since she is the mother of a school board member. Don't waste your money at this school. Your child will NOT receive a decent education.

Academically dismal. No honors courses. No AP courses. The Board of Directors is, at best, misguided. We stayed an entire year and that was a mistake. I would not recommend Albemarle School to anyone, let alone anyone looking for academics.

1. morning snacks that were offered to my son were cinnamon toast crunch cereal bars. 2. I would drop my son off in the mornings and the children were all glued to the TV. On a few occasions they were watching Sponge Bob Square Pants. I would drop William off at different times and pick him up at all different times to observe what they were doing. Every single time I was there they were all glued to the television and one child was told to sit back down and watch TV when he got up. 3. The field trip that we went on to the Aquarium was so unorganized. The teacher was extremely late, didn't speak to me or my child, and was just sitting around talking when we first got inside. 4. TV's were used during nap times. 5. The director posted this on her Facebook page directed at a parent: "IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE PRESCHOOL'S FAULT THAT CHILDREN DON'T LEARN AND GET PREPARED FOR KINDERGARTEN. WHEN THE CHILD DOES NOT HAVE RESPECT TAUGHT AT HOME THE TEACHER CAN ONLY HOPE THAT THE CHILD ABSORBS SOME OF THE MANY SKILLS TAUGHT."So very unprofessional. She was on Facebook all day while at work.

My children graduated from Albemarle. They are both well adjusted and had no problem being accepted to many NC colleges. I loved that they were giving a chance to grow as a student, a leader and helping their fellow students. Giving the correct guidance most children will rise to the challege, that's what Albemarle gives students. Mine loved their time at Albemarle and still volunteer just like that were shown as they grew up there. I highly recommend Albemare over any school in the area.

Albemarle School is a safe, nuturing place. Students are valued and encouraged to succeed. It has a family atmosphere. I have three children there. So far I am pleased. There is no such thing as a perfect school. It does require students, teachers, and parents to work together to get the most out of education. It is a private school and depends heavily on parental involvement. I appreciate that. I want to be active in my children's education. At Albemarle School, that is welcomed. You don't just drop your child off at the door and expect them to succeed. Parent's are welcomed to go on field trips, volunteer time for school happenings and improvements, and get involved on school committees. Fundraising is a neccessary evil. Tuition does not cover all needs. They do not receive any money from the state. the California Achievement Test (CAT) is given every year. It is a nationally normed test which means it shows a comparison to children all over the United States, not just North Carolina. My children have always scored in the ninety plus percentiles. That assures me that they are learning and excelling in their academics. Technology is a need at Albemarle School.

At first I wasn't happy with this school when my daughter started going there at age 3. I spoke to the people in administraive and they were able to transfer her into another classroom. Once she was transfered and had a better teacher we really started to like the school. She is still attending Albemarle School and we plan on keeping her there. If you are unhappy with something that happens there talk to the principal or people in the administrative department. They will try there best to help you out. They helped us and we are very happy there now. Just because a place looks a little run down inside doesn't mean at all it is a bad school.The person who wrote that the school smells is wrong. There isn't a foul smell. I wold recommend this school to everyone. The kids learn alot.

Not impressed. My daughter is attending preschool here and I can't wait to pull her out. There is an extreme lack in teaching courtesy and being mindful of others. The educational bearings aren't impressive either. Daily my daughter is pushed around and bullied by other students in her class, the issue has been brought to the teacher and administration and nothing has changed. There isn't a lot of focus on academics, it's an expensive play date. The building is in poor condition and has a foul odor. I would not recommend this school to anyone who values their child's education and emotional well being.
