We had high hopes for Saint Timothys, but unfortunately, our experience has been mixed at best. The school has been drifting in a more liberal direction, which may not align with every familys values. While there are some genuinely passionate teachers who care deeply about their students, the quality across the board is inconsistent. Each grade seems to have at least one teacher who is disinterested, overly authoritative, or simply not invested in teachingmore focused on control than growth.
Math in the middle school is especially concerning. The curriculum feels disorganized and uninspired, and theres little evidence of differentiation for students at different levels. Theres a particular emphasis on rigidity over learning, which makes it hard for students to thrive.

Wonderful school! My child moved to St. Timothy's for middle school and it has been a great experience. The middle school years can be tough socially at any school, but the administration and teachers at St. Timothy's handle these situations with care and expertise. The academics, athletics and other extracurricular opportunites have exceeded our expectations. The teachers and administrators are excellent and truly care about the students. Highly recommend!

We have been at St. Timothy's for 7 years now. I have one child with learning differences and two without. Words can't begin to describe how amazing the school and their whole system has been for my children. They are all thriving in their own ways. I also had a medical issue in the past years and the support for my children and my family were something I have never seen in a school community before. The love and guidance for my children was bar none and the support for the family the same.
The SEL program is wonderful and the children really learn to be good stewards of their community, near and far.
I also appreciate the full time safety staff, they are wonderful and kind, and really do take the safety of the students so seriously. They know me well, but if I am on campus without my Visitors badge, they send me to the front office! Love them!
The family community is something we talk about all the time. We say that its wonderful and new parents don't always believe us, but after just a few weeks as a parent here, you feel it immediately!
If you are looking for an academically challenging school, with teachers who love and care for your children, this is the place to be!

We have been at St. Timothy's for 6 years and have had a wonderful experience. The school has a great community feel that makes it easy to be involved and get to know the teachers, faculty, and other parents as well. The academics are challenging without being overwhelming. There can be quite a bit of homework some nights but part of what the school teaches is time management and organization so this does help keep the homework at a manageable level most of the time. Socially, there are many opportunities for the students to interact with one another - either in the classroom with group projects and classroom participation, or at lunch and recess, through clubs, sports (either playing or watching and supporting the school), field trips, school dances for middle school and class socials. All three of my kids have thrived at St. Timothy's and we are very grateful for all the school has done to give my kids a great foundation for high school and beyond.

Great lower school. Middle school can be tough years. Administration and teachers care a lot. Parents not super involved. Great facilities for what they are working with in terms of space. Good athletic choices for all students.

STS is a top notch school! We moved to the triangle a few years back, had a terrible first month at another school. St. Timothys understood my childs transition from moving and ran with it. Our second grade teacher was literally godsend. Our 3rd grade teachers were a perfect fit for my child as we saw amazing growth this year! We havent had any issues with other students that werent simply kids being kid, those small issues were quickly resolved by the teachers. Staff and administration have always been transparent and couldnt have done a better job with Covid! A True Blessing!

There is a very real sense of pride and place in this school. You feel it as you step on the grounds. St Timothys is and always will be home. Your child will be known, and shown Faith, Hope, and Love while receiving an excellent education.
The Teachers, and Staff are great. They have always been responsive to my children and any question I have raised. My children have been at this school since prekindergarten and third grade, respectively. They were very helpful with my child's mid-year transition in the third grade. My children always feel welcome and known. Truly known, not just another student passing through. The Educators and Staff learn and care about your child, while teaching and equipping them with the skills they will need in the future. St. Timothy's School does a good job of balancing emotional, spiritual, and academic learning. Homework can be heavy at times, but they are willing to work one on one if needed. Our children love this school and are thriving.
During COVID, the efforts at the school to protect the students and the larger school community as a whole, have been fantastic. As a result, they have been able to offer children one of the safest learning environments possible. See more on their Covid efforts in a story on cbs17. Everyone should be commended for their tireless hard work and dedication over the past year. We are so fortunate that our children have had the chance to continue to learn and grow with their friends through the pandemic, with mostly in-person instruction.
As a former alumnus from the 80's, I have seen a lot of changes to the campus and school since I was there, but the traditions, love and community continue to flourish.

School is not focused on developing kids and managing the group of bully kids they have enrolled. The leadership model is to squelch those kids who are bullied. Teachers are all over the place, but seems to be a training ground for entry level. If your kid has any interest in sports, the school has very little space or facilities.

This is our fourth year at St. Timothy's. We have been extremely pleased with the academic and emotional support our daughters have received. The teachers and administration seem to truly care about the students, both on an educational and personal level. They are doing a fantastic job helping them build a solid foundation for learning and good character. I would highly recommend St. Timothy's.

St Timothys is not just a school for my children but a home. The teachers, support staff and parents are like an extended family. I have a tremendous sense of peace and joy when I think of the excellent learning and nurturing environment that is at St Timothys. My children are first and fourth graders and have been at this school since they were 4.5 years old in prekindergarten. I cannot think of a better place for my children to grow emotionally, spiritually or academically. The teachers go above and beyond to assist and prepare the kids. My choice for St Timothys has only been further solidified during COVID. The relentless pursuit by the school to protect our children and offer them the safest learning environment has been impressive to say the least. Best decision ever!

Our family cannot recommend St. Timothy's School enough. This is our fourth year at STS. We have a second grader and one in their pre-k program. Our oldest started in their pre-k program and has flourished not only in her academics but in her character development at well. Yes, as parents we teach this at home but STS help develops these important traits too! All of our teachers have worked with both of our girls to help teach them at the level that they need to be taught. Our teachers have always welcomed any questions or concerns that we have and helped us with anything we may need. Our administration is wonderful! During COVID and the shutdowns, our education has not been compromised and our health and safety have been their top priority, I cannot say enough about the family environment of the school. It is one of those places that when you walk in the doors, it just feels right. It is a big family. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to be involved, which was important to our family. St Timothy's has given not only my children a safe and nurturing place to get a wonderful education and as a parent, I could not be more thankful for such a wonderful school!

The teachers and administration are so very responsive, caring and proactive. We can't recommend St. Timothy's enough, it's a wonderful school and a wonderful environment for our student.

We are thankful for each of the teachers and administrators at the school. We are also thankful for the school's leadership this past year during the pandemic as we never once felt unsafe sending our children to STS. Posted: March 3, 2020
I've been at a school that didn't know how to deal with bullying. At STS it is dealt with and the leadership is very effective in working with children/parents on the subject of bullying.
Posted: March 3, 2020
We were at another school school from K-5 and came to STS for middle school for our children. The transition to STS was wonderful. The biggest reason is the leadership....it is top notch!!!
Posted: March 3, 2020
St. Timothy's is an incredible place. I feel very lucky to have found this wonderful school for my children. We have made lifelong friends there and it will hold a special place in our hearts when we are gone!!!
Posted: March 3, 2020
The middle school homework is a good amount and gets them ready for high school. The amount of homework still allows them to have a good school/life balance. The are challenged without being overwhelmed.
Posted: March 3, 2020
Teachers are incredible. They are always available and fully invested in the children. Wonderful community of teachers.
Posted: March 3, 2020
The community of parents and teachers at STS is the best and it reflects in the children. My oldest is now in high school and he still carries his love for STS community. It is a special place.
Posted: January 28, 2020
The former lower school head was committed to this. I'm not sure what is happening now that she's gone.
Posted: January 28, 2020
9Brutal in middle school- there is no meaningful attempt to curb it.
Posted: January 28, 2020
Too much busy work and scripted worksheets. Not a lot of applied learning or innovation in assignments.
Posted: January 28, 2020
Some are great and others are not very modern in their approach.
Posted: January 28, 2020
They have completely lost control of the culture at the middle school level. Bullying is thinly veiled at best and administration doesnt seem to care or promote kindness or inclusion with this age group that needs it most
Posted: January 28, 2020
Focused on fundraising and not the things that actually make the school better culturally(which facilitates fundraising).

We have loved our experience at STS. Most of my friends have had at least one major issue within their public school and we haven't had any. The teachers care about my child and meet him where he is academically. They communicate with me effectively and he is challenged based on his strengths and weaknesses. Cannot say enough good things about the teachers, community of parents, and the kindness that we have received.
Posted: August 19, 2019
The lower school did a good job of this but the middle school has little to no time or interest in any student hat falls outside the "Cubicle" life robots they pride most.
Posted: August 19, 2019
We did not experience any bullying whilst there so can't speak to this question.
Posted: August 19, 2019
Poor - Teachers are not very caring or experienced, relatively high turn over in staff with the more experienced teachers being replaced by young les experienced, I guess this helps with budgeting and allocation of more revenue to the new yard project!
Posted: August 19, 2019
Homework was random and varied considerably in contact and duration to complete.
Posted: August 19, 2019
I am not sure what but the a significant number of the Teachers here don't have children of their own, whilst this does make or break a good teacher it does help with understanding how the typical child behaves in a normal environment outside of the classroom. They are not robots! The teachers at this school expect all the children to behave like robots and be perfect all the time! The school motto should be changed from "Life Ready" to "Cubicle Life Ready".
Posted: August 19, 2019
Everybody has to get a medal at St. Timothys, if you feel this is correct then you will love this school, however if you feel you need to work and earn a medal this school is not for you. Character is built with guidance not issued.
Posted: August 19, 2019
Leadership is most interested in raising funds for the new yard to be constructed than hiring and employing, experienced (10+ years) and caring teachers.

Posted: September 19, 2017
The class sizes are fairly small, and this allows teachers to really work with each child.
Posted: September 19, 2017
We have not dealt with bullying nor have we heard of it occurring.
Posted: September 19, 2017
You can tell by seeing how the teachers interact with the children how effective they are. The teachers at St. Timothy's School are dedicated to not only helping the students learn, but helping them to become better members of society.
Posted: September 19, 2017
St. Timothy's School is concerned about more than just how well your child can read or do mathematical equations. They want your child to be a positive, responsible member of society. The character education traits change monthly, and are woven into the learning plans from lower school to middle school.
Posted: September 19, 2017
Any time a question or concern has arisen it has been resolved in a timely manner. The school leadership is open to new ideas, practices, and constructive feedback. The leadership team (as well as the teachers) want each and every child to succeed.
Posted: September 19, 2017
We have had a positive experience at St. Timothy's School! As a parent you want to know your child is succeeding and growing, and at STS we know our child is. We feel this is by far the best education we could have asked for for our child. It is important that the parents and teachers are a team and that there is open communication from both, and that has been our experience. From the leadership to the teachers to the front desk to those that work the carpool lines, we thank you. Our experience has been wonderful!
Posted: September 19, 2017
There seems to be just the right amount of nightly homework.
Posted: May 31, 2017
We have had 3 children attend St. Timothy's collectively over the last 15 years and have been extremely happy with every aspect of this school. They provide a top notch education with state of the art technology, in a very nurturing environment with plenty of opportunities for parent involvement. Each one of my children were well prepared for High School not only academically (they were several levels ahead in all subjects) but also emotionally, physically and spiritually. Sending my kids to St. Timothy's School from K-8th was one of the best parenting decisions I've made!
Posted: May 31, 2017
The amount of homework is spot on.
Posted: May 31, 2017
They absolutely deal effectively with bullying. They have a zero tolerance.
Posted: May 31, 2017
They effectively support students with learning differences. The classes are small enough to meet each of the students academic needs. And the students are routinely tested to make sure they are in the right level class.
Posted: May 31, 2017
The leadership is extremely effective. Anytime I have ever had a question or needed to talk to someone my phone call or email is answered in a timely manner and addressed.
Posted: May 31, 2017
St. Timothy's teachers and staff are very caring and help build strong character traits in their students. The Christian beliefs of Faith. Love and Hope are integrated into the curriculum and into their Chapel services.
Posted: May 31, 2017
The teachers at St. Timothy's School are very effective, organized, caring, devoted and have many years of experience.
Posted: April 28, 2017
The administration is nuturing, the teachers are caring, kind, patient, and devoted to the children. There is great parent participation, which creates a very warm and inviting atmosphere. It is academically very strong, without overwhelming the children. The teachers are very mindful of working with children at their academic level, and it is because of the care of the teachers, that my 2nd grader has reading and math skills that are on a 4th grade level. I cannot say enough good things about this school.
Posted: April 28, 2017
My child has never dealt with any bullying at the school, so thankfully this question doesn't apply.
Posted: April 28, 2017
The teachers work so closely with the students, especially since the class sizes are so small. They are attentive to all the children's needs.
Posted: April 28, 2017
The headmaster, and head of lower school (my child is in lower school) are dedicated to their work, the children, and the school. They are approachable, and open to ideas and discussion with the parent.
Posted: April 28, 2017
Absolutely! They create an environment of respect, character, a love of nature, patience, and acceptance. The teachers and staff encourage independence, and help develop their skills for conflict resolution.
Posted: April 28, 2017
The teachers are kind, caring, devoted, organized, mindful, and very experienced.
Posted: April 28, 2017
The homework is challenging, but not overwhelming. It is just enough to help the child review what they are learning at school.
Posted: March 1, 2017
I agree with this statement however it is not possible as a parent to understand all sides of a story. Our limited experience has shown that they do not shy away from dealing with the issue head on with compassion and attentiveness.
Posted: March 1, 2017
St. Timothy's routinely evaluates student aptitude and performance to make sure they are in a group that meets their individual needs. Success is defined in so many ways!
Posted: March 1, 2017
Leadership at St. Timothy's is personally invested in its success. It is not uncommon to see them going above and beyond for the good of the kids!
Posted: March 1, 2017
Character development is a distinguishing mark of St. Timothy's. Children make mistakes as they grow and St. Timothy's provides the room and support to learn in a compassionate manner.
Posted: March 1, 2017
Homework progressed as the children advanced but never was an overwhelming experience. Our children were very prepared for high school.

We spent a collective 12 years at St. Timothy's with two children. We knew we made a good decision but as time went by we realized we made a great decision. Not only do they have a strong academic program that prepared our children for high school, but the environment and the support by teachers, staff and fellow parents made it that more enriching. My daughter who is in college, reflects very fondly on her experience and visits the campus whenever she can. She calls several of the teachers "good friends" who she stays in contact with today. I applaud the work they have done and only wish they had a high school option!
Posted: February 16, 2017
We just knew when we walked in the door that St. Timothy's was the right school for us! From the nurturing environment to the developmentally appropriate curriculum, all three of our children are thriving here. They receive individualized attention as well as an outstanding education. The teachers and administration promote kindness, accountability, and responsibility in all aspects of the students' lives. Thank you!
Posted: January 28, 2017
My daughter, as well as other children have been bullied by children at this school. The headmaster has been contacted on numerous occasions by myself and other parents and because of status my child has had to endure this continued abuse. Private schools are not held to the same accountability under the law as public schools are to protect our child. No matter how much money we pay to educate our child it is priceless for her to be in a safe environment.
We also invested hundreds of dollars in after school tutoring for our daughter after school and found out she was still very behind. We are glad to be out of this environment!!
Posted: November 29, 2016
My children are very different creatures and they are each made to feel special, loved and challenged daily. I did exhaustive research on school options and we knew from our first visit that STS was the only choice for our family.

Don't send your child here!!!! This school promotes bullying by punishing the child being bullied!! The teachers are careless and do not pay attention to the situation. Academics are weak at best. Please for the safety of your child find another school.

We have two children at St. Timothy's, one girl and one boy, we have been there since Kindergarten. We love the school for it's small classes, engaged teachers and exceptional academics. St. Timothy's is a school which believes in combining traditional education and innovation. We could not imagine a better foundation for our children's academic and emotional growth as an individual.

I have two children at STS (one has since graduated) and find it to be an academically rigorous and developmentally appropriate curriculum. I love the exposure to Latin, the emphasis on recess, the character and social learning, and the community projects they encourage. The school's not glitzy with amazing sports fields and venues, but it has heart and substance instead. A current parent

I have three children at St. Timothy's School. After having been at a public school, I am now seeing the difference the STS education is providing. My children are more independent and confident. The individual attention they receive is unmatched. The environment is nurturing yet academically rigorous and challenging. Parents are very involved on many levels, and the teachers and administration have open door policies which they abide by. I couldn't be happier!

Our son transferred to St.Timothy's in 6th grade from a public magnet school in Raleigh. We wanted him in a smaller school environment and had always heard great things about St. Timothy's. When we heard Headmaster Tim Tinnesz share his vision for students, we were clear it was the right choice for us! Our son's experience has been everything Tim promised! We were worried it would be a challenging transition for our son moving into to a new school where most of the students had been together since Kindergarten. He has never done better! It is an incredibly warm and nurturing environment, while also being very rigorous academically! The teachers push the students to excel in the way that works best for them. They are incredibly accessible whenever we need them.
There are plenty of opportunities for extra curricular in addition to academics and a good choice of electives. Our son had debate as an elective and ran cross-country in his first year.
We are very thankful we're fortunate to attend such an amazing school!

We have had a wonderful experience at St. Timothy's School. The teachers are outstanding, and really get to know your child - their strengths and weaknesses - and adapt to support them where needed. They have a great after school care program, with top-notch counselors who really care for each child. Overall, the school has a great community feel, and the families are very welcoming. Our daughter loves going to STS!
