THIS IS AN AWFUL SCHOOL. It doesn't care about you, and almost everyone is mean. I hate most Wake County schools, but this is almost a one out of ten; it's awful. mean teachers, harsh, abusive punishment, and an unsafe enviorment. It is also a bad learning enviorment, with awful kids, and is mostly homophobic and racist. Don't recommend.

The buses suck, like actually people have to stand up because there's no room, sit on the floor, or 3 into a seat but that won't work unless you have friends!? Its bus 6 that I know has the problem, too many kids im actually so tired of that

I went here for my first year of middle school and i hated it. People were constantly vaping, smoking, fighting, bullying and teachers didnt even care. People brought weapons to school and they didnt get suspended untill the next day. Teachers would quit mid year and right before eog´s so that wasnt helpful and barley any electives the ap was weird i wasnt a big fan of her its just a mess in general dont go there.

My experience at Centennial has been very negative. Theres been so many teachers quitting or just so focused on controlling behavioral issues that I dont end up learning much. There are a ton of fights every week and our school has no way of effectively disciplining anyone because most of the students dont have any regard for their future. I also believe that going to this school has decreased my intelligence and my mental health significantly.

This school has been horrible to go to. Ive been in this school 6-8th grade and their were fights almost everyday, horrible teachers that curse and horrible curriculum, and lack of freedom. Staff focused more on discipline than teaching and labeled kids as, bad and good. I do not recommended this dchool steer clear.

The principle at the school has the worst attitude with parents, students and God knows staff. She tries to humiliate and intimidate staff in front of parents, and I have seen this firsthand on several occasions, whether in the school or at carpool. She has no respect for her position as a principle and with teachers leaving at an alarming rate, why is she still there? Dangerous fights, stealing, nastiness and no direction with a game plan at the school.

The teachers and staff care about their students, and I am pleased with the academic development they provide. They don't load the kids with homework, which I think is very refreshing! My daughter has made great friendships, and has had limited exposure to others who seem to bully, start rumors, etc. However, these seem to stem from 1-2 students, and that the rest of the student body seems nice to each other.

The PTSA does a lot for the teachers, and even without the normal activities (thanks to COVID), they seem to try to give the students enrichment.

I would definitely recommend this school!

Our experience over the past three years has been inconsistent. Our child's 6th grade year was a mess. One teacher was overly strict, two teachers seemed more focused on being friends with the kids, and the fourth did not challenge students and was too easy. She changed positions at some point in the year and the new teacher finally brought in some real learning. 7th grade we had two great teachers and one who was very rude to our child. The science and math teacher really worked hard to connect with kids, but the english teacher played favorites. 8th grade has been a complete mess. Science and social studies are only every other day because there are not enough teachers. How can you advertise yourself with a STEM school sign in your entry, but only give kids science every other day? The social studies teacher is terrible. She exempts kids from work when they don't do well to inflate their grades. She plays favorites. She does not teach. My child has learned nothing in her classroom. Math started rough with a new teacher who left early in the year. Our child learned nothing from him. When a math teacher from somewhere else in the building stepped in, learning increased as well as expectations. I feel like our child is definitely prepared for Math I next year. English has been hard. Expectations are high and aren't always clearly communicated. Sometimes this teacher can be very rude to the students and shares information that should be kept private. Science has been hard because of the every other day setup. Same teacher as the end of 6th grade which made us happy. High expectations in here, but our child has liked being able to be more hands on this year than in the past. Students have to work hard to be successful, but they have learned a lot in this class this year.

Principal rarely returns emails. Rude when she does. Someone said below she only cares about increasing enrollment which I agree with. Both assistant principals are rude and a waste of space. Inconsistent consequences do not help the many behavioral problems in this school. There are always fights, especially this year.

Teachers are discouraged from assigning homework. The perspective is that students have other things to do at home and they will not complete the homework there. If students are not going to complete homework, then it should not be given.

Centennial has some really great teachers who care a lot about the students. Unfortunately, many of these same teachers leave each year leaving only the subpar and uninterested teachers behind.

Some students are taking part in something called circle to help build these things, but only a select few teachers do this with the students. Many teachers do not communicate with their students appropriately and will be rude or disrespectful in the way that they speak to them. Many behavioral problems that are not addressed.

We have loved our time at CCMMS. The administration was a mess in the beginning but our new principal this year is amazing. She encourages communication and family involvement. The school is making great strides with its relationship with NC State and I have seen many more connections to that end. The school has shown great progress this year under Ms. Hutchinson and I look forward to seeing the school continue to grow.

The focus at this school is on remedial students and bringing up their school test scores. There is no support for higher level students- they are placed in the back of a crowded room to do any higher level work on a pc with no true teacher support. If students excels but is not "labeled" no additional effort is given ensure their higher needs are met. Do not subject your bright and lover of learning child to this school environment.

Disappointing. No true relationships with NCSU as much as they tout they have partnerships and the proximity gives them closer access and connections. There was a huge exodus of good students and supporting families last year. Only remained because child wants to stay with a few lifelong friends and kept hoping for improvement, and well, now its almost over. Will not be bringing other children here. Maybe they can bring CCMS back to its glory days, but I took the chance with one and was starry-eyed and eager to join the fight, but now I refuse to have any more of my children bear CCMS remediation pains.

There is no standard practice for homework. Worried my child is not prepared for the rigors of high school. Usually there isn't any HW to effectively support material learned in class, even in math! Then the child will have a huge amount dumped on them randomly before evaluations are due. By the way, no higher level math taught at this school, this is definitely not an AIG supportive school nor do they seem to want to bother.

There are a few really good teachers in the bunch, but for the most part it seems the focus is on getting the kids pushed through. Classes are not balanced and forget about meeting and ensuring each child excels and grows at their level, especially if they are above average. There is a last minute pressure to ensure placing grades in PowerSchool and evaluations are sometimes rushed and weighted disproportionally, for example missed placed paper in binder versus actual material knowledge. Substitute teachers have been indifferent and uncaring seat warmer. Teachers are placed at the entrance of the school to greet students, but four at a time huddle together on one side chit-chatting with the occasional greeting to children coming in.

Although this school is supposed to be a Leadership School, it has yet to rise to the level or for majority of students to exemplify those traits and lessons. Lots of student cursing, coupled with disrespect and rowdiness in the classrooms. Teachers were just trained on being a Leadership School a couple years ago- 2015-16 and lots of changes and turmoil since, so no headway gained. This is a very small school compared to others, barely 500- but due to their well-earned reputation, they are under-registered.

This has been a whirlwind with leadership. After ineffective years, a new promising principal was brought in, but she was unable to make the needed strides and overhaul changes we were sold. Then last year she had to leave mid-year, causing a backslide in progress and dismal second half of year with unqualified interim principal. New principal comes from elementary, highly paid, but again underqualified to deal with the myriad of middle school dynamics. Making changes, but not really accessible nor concerned with parent support and individual student needs. Does not reply in a timely manner, if she even replies at all, and she is condescending. Her focus is on increasing magnet numbers, which will not come if the best of students and their families are not considered and supported. Almost the entire PTA Board quit at the end of last semester- not a good way to start the second half of the year.

I'd give it a 2 out of 5. Ineffective, apathetic administration. Not good communicators. Lots of problems with disruptive, disrespectful students. So many horrible substitute teachers. The teacher absenteeism rate is unbelievably high. There is no regular interaction with NCSU or tech companies as touted in the magnet tours. There is no regular interaction with the Friday Institute as touted in the magnet tours. Not much in the way of electives. Our child has made a couple of good friends, otherwise we'd be looking at other schools.

We had a wonderful 6th grade year, caring teachers and lot's of differentiated learning and experiences. 7th grade has been abysmal. 1 Social Studies teacher who cares, but came from 6th grade last year, Mr. Millhoff. This school has the most potential and opportunity to be great yet fails their students in every way. The administration is not engaged, the NC State involvement promised is nonexistent. Good kids who study hard exit at the end of every year because of the constant verbal and physical fighting, behavioral issues, and lack of engaged teachers. Will likely be pulling my child as well, even though she has made good friends.

Revolving door of substitutes -- and sub-par ones, at that. Apathetic administration who are poor communicators. Some teachers are quite good, but the high teacher absenteeism cancels out any benefit they might offer. You can't make an impact if you're absent half the time. The school needs a stronger, involved, caring administration. It would be best if the current principal didn't return from maternity leave and if they also replaced the asst. principal. Maybe teachers wouldnt be absent so much.

We are very happy at CCMMS. The teachers are AMAZING (we are 6th grade) and truly care about the future of their students and their well being. Their energy towards teaching is very visible. The students really support each other and are happy to see each other succeed. The staff as a whole are wonderful and very welcoming.

The principal bullies the staff members and openly badmouths them in front of other faculty. When we have asked her to address our concerns about the increased fighting and growing unsafe learning environment, she has not been helpful. A great many of the experienced staff are leaving this school, myself included. I am sorry to leave a school which I have loved so much but the working conditions are untenable.

(Part2) These teachers put up with being treated less than but still are extremly kind to everybody. So many kids do disrupt and break rules but the principal will not suspend them or take them out of the class cause she cares about the education of those troubled students, that is perfectly fine until it has put our education and safety at risk. We cant consentrate because during class kids are running loudly through the hallways screaming and singing. This is the wrong place to try and get the education your children deserve and want. if I were a parent I wouldnt even think about sending my child here knowing what I have experienced.

I kept hearing how great this school is but it clearly was all hype. This place is an absolute joke. The kids are completely out of control and the staff does not have a handle on them. Every day my son would come home and tell us about all of the fights, and he felt bad that his teachers were being bullied by the students. I was happy that my son was bringing home good grades, until I figured out that they let him slide because he was not a problem. He didn t have to do anything and was earning high 90 s. He barely had homework and was not learning basic skills like grammar and writing. We have just moved out of the county and he finally has to earn his grades. He said he can actually concentrate now because the kids aren t screaming in class and watching music videos when they are supposed to be working. The only thing my son learned at CCMS is how to be a street thug.

I'm Currently Attending this School, in the 2014-2015 school year. The Kids here are heartless and bullying is often ignored. I wasn't bullied by a fellow student, i was bullied by a racist teacher! But, That's being taken care of. The Good thing is, we have the Best Counselor in wake county. I'm not kidding, she one the best school counselor award earlier in September or something. She's truly and honestly a great person. Teachers at this school Really care! But That substitute, i forgot his name, doesn't do anything but read. He gives us a work sheet but only me and my friend actually do it. everyone else is running and playing around the classroom. anyways, this school is pretty Average.

Hard to assess if its the system (Common Core) or if its the staff. However, too many times my child comes home to tell me things like 1) we had subs again 2) we watched movies and/or 3) bullying not addressed. If its an early release day, might as well count it as a day off because they tell all they do is watch movies like Nemo. I am homeschooling next year.

Don't go to this school if your children are active and like athletics because CCMS lacks any type of athletics. The principal feels that children shouldn't be judged on their capabilities and they should all be treated equally and so that's why she doesn't allow sports. That is a bunch of you know what.

CCMS is a great school with qualified and caring teachers. Our son who is now a 9th grader was given an amazing level of support and encouragement to excel despite his learning disabilities. Because of the support he received, he was able to maintain A/B honor roll during all but two quarters during his 3 years at Centennial and earned a President's Award. Thank you CCMS!

WOW! When I first read the reviews for this school I was very worried about enrolling my 7th grader at Centennial when we moved to Raleigh. Either only parents with bad experiences have posted or things have changed dramatically at this school. My childs teachers were very responsive to any questions I had when the school year started. Teachers post everything on their website and have always responded quickly to my emails. My child has been very moody this year, hormone overload similar to my 10th graders time in middle school. The teachers seem to be well aware of typical middle schoolers and have been very supportive. I am very happy with the school, the technology they have, and the supportive teachers.

After reading the previous reviews I see NOTHING has changed with this school. The teachers and administration still exhibit a lack of communication with parents. Teachers and administartion don't return phone call, or emails in a timely manner sometimes never. This is unacceptable! For these reasons and all the other MANY reason listed in other parent reviews we've decided to take our child out this school. if you want parent involvement don't come here. Fair warning
