We attended private schools before Hawbridge and we feel incredibly lucky to have found this school and community. There is no such thing as a perfect school, but the vibe throughout the community of admins, teachers, parents and students here is one of warmth, openness, curiosity, and respect. Sites like Great Schools and Niche can't compare a public or charter school apples-to-apples with a private school due to the difference in data that they share, but seeing outcomes like where students end up going to college compared to some area private schools is compelling; Hawbridge students end up going on to many of the same colleges as graduates of area private schools (some even better). And since they'll be surrounded by nice kids, staff, and families either way, it's lovely to save the tens of thousands of dollars over x years on the road to college (if you could afford to keep that going at all). And on that tip, something I very much appreciate about Hawbridge is its economic diversity. That's very hard to find at a private school for obvious reasons. Any time we've had a question or feedback, teachers and the community have been right there.

Horrific mockery of an educational environment. I have been bullied and harassed and filed multiple complaints that have resulted in no action. I have been neglected and told to wait it out or change my life for a harasser. I have not been taught material that was covered in the ACT and, as a result, must retake the test in order to get into the college I want. When at Hawbridge, I do not expect discipline of any kind or leadership of any form. As a result, I feel very unsafe. It is truly my understanding that The Hawbridge School only cares about a fake, shiny appearance and not the mental duress they cause staff and students. Do what’s right for your children and find somewhere else.

There’s some really amazing teachers! But some subpar teachers also. There’s no surveys for parents or students. Better communication from administration and making sure all teachers are doing a good job would make this school much better.

I am disappointed in Hawbridge. I just learned today that two of our favorite teachers have not been asked to return next year (aka "let go"). I don't understand this move from the administration at all. Both of these teachers are beloved by students and parents. Hawbridge is clearly going in a direction we don't want to go, so we will be looking at alternatives. What used to be a unique place that really nurtured the quirky, creative, and adventurous kid is becoming something that you can find anywhere. Definitely will not recommend Hawbridge to my friends and acquaintances. They are losing awesome teachers this year and every year since we have been there. Very disappointed. Don't send your kids here.

I say agree because they highered a 3rd EC teacher because the need was so great. My youngest has ADHD and some learning disabilities. I hear great things from parents who have experience with the EC teachers and I expect to have a great experience as well.

Hawbridge is a great school! The theatre program is amazing (Ms. Bosley is the best!) and Mr. Farmer, the English teacher, is hilarious. I love Hawbridge; if you are looking for a great school, this is the one.

Hawbridge offers a top notch education, while encouraging an open minded and accepting atmosphere. The unique setting on the Haw River and in the Saxapahaw mill village offers many opportunities for learning.

This school has deteriorated rapidly over the past 2-3 years. The current administration is incompetent and uncaring, and most of the good teachers have fled. The school faced financial problems, so they added a grade, which made the school overcrowded and chaotic. They also cut out many practices, like outdoor learning and regular field trips, that made the school special. The things that used to set Hawbridge apart have disappeared, so now it's just another lousy NC public school -- hardly worth the extra effort and cost to get out to Saxapahaw.

Ridiculous quantities of homework and most of it seems quite pointless. There is a lot of busywork in most classes.

Not much attention to these aspects. There's lots of emphasis on rules, though, but the rules aren't consistently applied. So, not sure that really teaches integrity or fairness.

My kids just started their 2nd year at Hawbridge and we love it. Charter schools offer fewer programming options, however, make up for that in teacher attention and strong academics. The new principal, Dr. Moles, is outstanding and the teachers clearly love their work.

My kids are in honors classes and the homework is intense, however, in regular classes the homework is more manageable.

Hawbridge was a great school until 2 1/2 years ago when the founder left. That began a period of staff turnover, turmoil, and incompetence that has left the school a shadow of its former self. The school's mission -- to provide individualized instruction -- has been gutted. Good teachers have fled. There has been a new, inexperienced counselor every year. Administrative duties are constantly being shuffled. The place is in chaos. Don't send your kid there!

Teacher quality now varies hugely, and teachers turn over quickly. There is little continuity. Teachers have little accountability.

My 5th grader is loving his first year at Hawbridge. The classes are very small and the teachers are excellent and are able to differentiate very effectively from what I can tell - my child is doing advanced math work in his small group. They also do a lot of project-based learning which he really enjoys, and they get to spend a fair amount of time outside each day. He has also been rock climbing with a school trip and is excited to take the outdoor skills class in 6th grade. It is a small school with a great sense of community and everyone works together. The 5th grade building is not very "glamorous" looking but the kids don't care and they all seem to love it there.

Hawbridge is outstanding! The teachers are fantastic and go the extra mile to reach students and keep parents in the loop. They encourage the students to be independent thinkers and celebrate their differences. Our son will graduate from Hawbridge in a couple years and we will be sending our daughter there as well. We are thrilled with this school.

The Hawbridge School has been a great match for my child. I am so happy I found a place he could thrive and belong! The academic and arts programs are wonderful, and the small class size helps the teachers to really focus on the needs of the individual children. My child has done well in this environment, has made lifelong friends and will graduate and go on to a good college. I couldn't be happier!

The small size of the school is ideal for the student who did not thrive in a traditional public school setting. The teachers are true educators -- committed, dynamic, and really interesting people. The curriculum is challenging and innovative. I'm grateful that my daughter was accepted into the first sixth grade class; we intend to keep her there through high school.

This is an ideal school for a student who thrives with extra attention, and close relationships with faculty and other students. There is no hype here. It's mainly about hands on learning and working in groups. The school is right next to a river, and this river is heavily utilized in the curriculum. This school is best for a student who is more interested in learning than competing for grades and extra credit experiences for college. They have a wide range of honors classes and some AP classes, but not as much as some of the nearby schools. The faculty is outstanding and the best part of the school.
