Not sure about the negative reviews, as I have 2 students with IEPs and they provide all the support and and excellent. My kids who use to go to another school in the district went from hardly passing, to excelling in their grades. We have been at the school now for 4 years and will be sad to move onto middle school.

If you have a special needs kid this is not the school! The administration especially the assistant principal is not trained on providing care for special needs and does not try to understand it. The administration focuses more on discipline than providing the services included In your child’s IEP

My experience with this school has been horrible. I love my sons classroom staff but some of the front office staff has been awful. I honestly feel like my child is being targeted. I thought moving him out of another county was the best option but unfortunately it wasn’t

We love Honeycutt Elementary.
We have 2 kids enrolled and both always loved their teachers, felt challenged and were given extra opportunities to grow. Especially during Covid and virtual learning, both the kids teachers went above and beyond to keep everyone on track and ensure progress.

The Teachers and counsellors are wonderful, but the administration cares more protocol than the students that need help the most.

We are new to the school district. I had a problem with my son’s teacher. I emailed the principal and never received a response. I emailed a week later and still never received a response. I contacted the councilor and finally got a response.

My son is board in his class so I asked if there were any programs for him. There is the Discovery but they come every other week and there is only one teacher that does the program and has to go to 5 other schools to teach.

Both of my Daughters have attended Honeycutt since Kindergarten.Their teachers have been amazing and caring.They have many students from military families and are very willing to help with kids struggling with issues during deployments.

My daughter started at Honeycutt 3 years ago. If there were ever an issue it was quick to get fixed. Office staff has been caring and helpful especially Kelly. The principal is always encouraging to my daughter and recognizes her hard work and performance. Teachers vary A LOT! Many different personalities but, if you're a grown up and know how to speak to people they are willing to work with you and your child. I'm excited to see what this next year brings as my little one will be starting kindergarten this year. I have read a lot of reviews complaining about the AR program. This is not the schools fault or doing! AR is part if common core. Blame Obama not Honeycutt.

This school has many fabulous teachers however if you are unfortunate enough to have a bad teacher then don't expect any help from the administrator or the district. I think it amazing that the administration has the nerve to post on this site and say not to trust this site. It pretty much shows how you will be treated if you must go to her with a concern. She will blame you and not address the problem. If you read through the comments, many of them discuss similar concerns yet the comments were written years apart, which means that the same problems occur year after year after year and they are not addressed. The secretary is a problem yet nothing is done because the administrator and secretary are friends. The PTA is a problem. One PTA member attempted to fix this and was banned from the building. IEP's are a problem. The administrator has said on numerous occasions that she does not want IEP students in her building and she doesn't feel that she should have to deal with them. She can't address these concerns because she knows very, very little about IEP's. She is either unable or unwillingly to assist with accomodations. The special education teacher, that most parents have issues with, is one of her best friends. If you say something negative about her best friend, then you are the one that is wrong. The administrator is correct about one thing. Anyone can write an anonymous critique and there is no accountability. However, I would not take time out of my day to write a negative comment about a place that I like. I guess someone could pick a random school, in a random district, in a random state, read all of the reviews, then write a completely made up, yet similar comment. One final comment from me: AR (accelerated reader) at this school is awful. AR is hated by almost EVERY. SINGLE. PARENT. and most teachers. AR goals are too high. If your child is a good reader then there goal is the highest. Your 2nd grader could be required to read 20+ chapter books each grading period and test on each book. IT IS AWFUL! Students stress over their goals and parents dread them.

As with any school, some teachers are extremely effective and others are not. One year can be drastically different from the previous year, based on the teacher. One students could have a great year because of a great teacher, but a friend across the hall, could have a terrible year, because of the teacher. If your child has a 'not so great' teacher, don't expect much help from the administration.

This school uses the Accelerated Reader program (AR). Many students and parents dread AR because students are expected to read and test on too many books. Reading and passing these tests are the bulk of homework, which for many students is way too much. As for other homework, in my experience, there is too little. In the upper grades, this affects students because they are not given a chance to practice skills at home and parents are not given a chance to review material at home. If this school would decrease AR, they could spend more time practicing the skills that are taught in class. Yes, reading is extremely important, but when a child needs to quickly read a 100 page chapter book in order to answer 10 multiple choice questions, and they do this night after night, week after week, month after month, year after year, then it isn't enjoyable, and little time is given to comprehend and analyze a book. It is not uncommon for a 2nd grader to be required to read 30 chapter books (Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House, etc) in a single 9 week grading period. It really is, read-test, read-test, read-test, etc., as quickly as possible.

Sometimes the homework is enough, some days there has been no homework. I am kind of a "hard core" parent and like to have my kids have at least a little homework each night.

We have two kids that have been here from 1st through 5th grades. My boy has had some behaviour problems, he has had a IEP for several years, and although not perfect, Honeycutt has been good to work with us. Literally all the teachers have been good, and most of them really super great. Mrs. Mueller is a good principal and cares about the students. Mrs. Good is the best music teacher you could ask for. The AIG teachers are fantastic. I work full time but take the time to volunteer at the school as much as I can and get to know the teachers and staff.

First off, let me say that we have LOVED the teachers that we have had. My child has only been at Honeycutt for 2 years, but both years the teachers were amazing and more than willing to help. However, the administration and office staff leave much to be desired. It is often difficult to get anyone in the office to acknowledge you. I once was told to "hold on" so that one of the office staff could take a personal phone call from their personal cell phone regarding something they had forgotten to do the day prior. I also had a family member put on hold for the principal who was suppose to answer a question about a volunteer opportunity. The principal answered the call, did not ever ask for my family members information, told my family member calls hadn't been made yet, and then hung up without answering any of the questions my family member had. I initially attempted to participate in the PTA, but it was very apparent from the get go that this was a huge clique and they weren't looking for new members. The schools utilization of AR is ridiculous and is not in anyway, shape, or form beneficial to a child's love of reading. My child is reading well above grade level and spent days in tears out of fear of not meeting their goal in time. My child was taking 5-10 tests a day which means they were reading 5-10 books a day. When was my student doing this? While the rest of the class was working on other assignments. In my opinion, this is not a way to encourage reading or comprehension. If your child doesn't require a lot of administration attention I would say this school would be great. If you have a child that will need assistance and support from the administration, it might benefit you to look elsewhere.

We've been at Honeycutt for over 3 years. I can honestly say there are some amazing teachers who want to help our kids succeed, Anytime I had concerns about my children's performance, or struggles, their teachers were always willing to go above & beyond to help keep them on the right track. Unfortunately, the office staff, clique-ish PTA board & Principal make it difficult to function at this school. If you are lucky to catch the office secretary on a good day, she may help you. Most days she is not in a good mood.& often she can ignore you in person and talk to her pal who is now on payroll. She's not all to blame, the Principal has the same attitude, if you are one of the lucky few, you might get a call back when you leave a message, or you could wait months & months for a reply, if you get one at all. I won't bother to go into the issues she's caused with the PTA, but I will say that Many of us would rather volunteer in our children's classrooms then to get mixed up in the drama Also, be warned; though the teachers care & try, their hands are tied in many ways.I think this school could be great again, but some pruning from the top down would need to be done!

Major problem with the principal of this school!! Ms. Mueller is not supportive or helpful unless it benefits her. If you want to be on her good side and let your child have a good experience here, then make sure you are beyond helpful and friendly to her, and join the PTA. If your child has an IEP or has special needs, DO NOT go here, teachers are great but they have NO support and help from the top. There is a HUGE lack of special education services if you are in 4 & 5th grade, the EC teacher complains about how little time she has and will lie about seeing your child. Had a great experience with the K-3 EC teacher, but once 4&5 grade hit, it has been downhill. My student does not want to go to school and that is not the way it was last year.

If you have the opportunity to choose a different school for your children, please do so. I have cried every morning for the past several days thinking of how horrible the leadership is at this school - namely the Principal. I recently met with her to discuss what I viewed as a demeaning action toward my son who has an IEP due to developmental delay. It was absolutely shocking to be talked to in the manner in which she conducted herself. She was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and nasty. It has been my experience (having 2 sons pass through the halls, here) that when a parent has a question or concern regarding their child, the Administrative Personnel - Principal, Teachers, Assistants, Counselors - act as if the parent is the problem. These people do not care about the children. Their only concern is the numbers as evidenced in my conversation with this Principal.

Honeycutt is the best school in Fayetteville!! I am proud and happy to tell people where I work. I have never seen so many teachers spend their time and money on classroom children. From honeycutts awesome after school clubs to in school activities, it rocks!!! I am so excited each and every year to return and meet a whole new group of lil panthers!! PTA is beyond involved... They keep the school running with countless hours of work!!! Go Honeycutt!!!

I love working at E. Melvin Honeycutt. Our principal is very supportive of her staff. The teachers, assistants, and support staff work in education because of our love of teaching and we are blessed to have the opportunity to work at this amazing school. We are a team. We are not here just to collect a pay check. Many of us go above and beyond to prepare for a great day of learning. You will never walk through our school without a friendly hello or good morning.

I love working at Honeycutt! The atmosphere is positive, caring, and welcoming. This is a place where teachers, parents, and children want to be. Our principal is supportive of teachers, loves children, and puts them first in all decisions made. Our parents are always welcome in our school as we know that we must all work together to ensure the success of our children. There is no other place I would rather be! I highly recommend Honeycutt for your children. Come in the front doors and feel the excitement for teaching and learning.

First, off, my kids have done quite well at this school. They are in the cluster classes and we have had GREAT teachers all three years here. We have been pleased overall with the school and what our children have achieved at this school. In a military community, I expected a little more to be helpful to military families and kids who move often; this is not the case at this school. There are many families who homestead in this area, so although military, they have lived here for seven or ten years, and even after three years, we still get comments like " oh, you haven't been here long"! Really? Communication from the school is not always the best, or they assume you know things (because a large part of the student body has been here for so long). I served on the PTA and was often treated like the odd person, because I was new and tried to bring up new ideas (which can be a benefit of a place who has new people coming in), so I have now chosen to quietly volunteer in the classroom, rather than on the PTA. Our kids have learned and gotten good grades and not really had many bad experiences, so overall they have been happy and that pleases us, as the parents...

The school has an excellent learning environment. The open door policy allows parents to visit and get involved. There is an overall positive environment, and the children are encouraged to learn and read. I have three children who have attended, and two are still attending. I have witnessed the school's dealings in every grade, and I can say that it is an excellent school. Only on one instance have I witnessed other staff overact on uninformed situations, but for the most part teachers and staff are familiar with the parents who visit on a regular basis.

This school did nothing short of fail my children! I have two children who attended Honeycutt. While on occasion they received a good teacher, our overall experience was horrible. My daughter was repeatedly bullied by three students. I brought this issue up repeatedly and nothing was ever done about it, and to make matters worse each new year all three were assigned yet again to her class so, this continued for three years. The educators here fail to recognize issues such as ADHD as well. My concerns about my daughter having possible ADHD were ignored until we were redistricted to another school! My son was treated horribly by one specific teacher's aid in the first grade. His entire first grade year he, and many other students were punished by this aid for her mood swings, which myself and other parents witnessed. My son began having anxiety about attending school due to her to the point he would become sick in the mornings....TAKE YOUR CHILD TO ANOTHER SCHOOL! Oh and the school does not have a full-time nurse so if your child has allergies and needs an Epi pen you are out of luck because they do not keep medication in the building!

While the teachers are great, the office does not want to deal with tough matters. My youngest is now dealing with a bully. It has escalated from the boy physically breaking my sons possessions to now actually physical contact and leaving marks. Talking with the school they began to ignore my calls when i tried to find something out and called my son a liar before they ever looked into anything. This is the worst school for condoning bullies and their behavior.

I have 2 kids who go to this school, my oldest son is in AG and his teacher is wonderful and I have no complaints about her. My youngest son is in Kindergarten and he is having problems learning. He has been having problems since the beginning of the school year but they waited until the end of the year and was already on the retention list to try to help him or figure out if there are any learning disabilities. I think they could've done more testing earlier so that we would know if there is a problem and get him help sooner. I feel like the Kindergarten teachers and assistants don't really care and aren't very friendly.

I absolutely LOVE this school! For the past six years I have had at least one of my three children at Honeycutt! I have never had an issue with this school. If I had a concern about my child I made sure to talk to the teacher about it and the situation would get resolved. I am very involved with this school and have been a part of the PTA for 5 out of the 6 years. Having so many parents being involved in this school has helped to make it one of the best elementary schools in the area! Outstanding staff, wonderful and caring teachers and let's not forget the awesome ladies in the front office!! It will be hard to find another school like it when we have to move!!

My children have attended Honeycutt since 2007, prior to that we attended a school on a military installation and that is the sum total of my/our experience as parents of children in the public education system. Not to long ago Honeycutt was awarded recognition of being a National Honor School of Excellence. I don't believe that achievement was a mistake and after witnessing the devotion of teachers and even more importantly the parents to ensure our children succeed I believe it is within reach in the future. Like any school there is always room for progress and most of the staff are receptive to any suggestions made. I love Honeycutt, I love the teachers, I love the staff but most importantly my children love Honeycutt.
