Students participating in the Early College program earn a large number of college credit hours and graduate with a high school diploma. My daughter will soon graduate from the ECA program with credit hours that satisfy 50% of the requirements for an undergraduate degree. The quality of instruction offered at the school has been first rate, with a high level of engagement from faculty and administrators. Class sizes are small and students are excited to come to school every day. Although the program is excellent overall, there are a couple of potential downsides to consider. 1.) The school currently has no athletics program, which can cause problems down the road for some seniors when filling out college applications. 2.) I have found that the English department has been somewhat remiss in delivering effective instruction on English writing. To improve SAT scores, I had to resort to hiring a private tutor to address deficiencies in the English instruction my daughter received at Johnston ECA. Deficiencies aside, this is a great program for high school students that I would recommend to others without hesitation.
