This school is such a gem. My kids are flourishing here. The teachers are lovely and thoughtful, and the principal is engaged and clearly cares about the welfare of the students. I can't say enough good about this school. After a poor experience at a local private school, we feel lucky to have found everything our children need (and more) in our neighborhood school.

Only two negative reviews below and both were made on the same day (over 8 years ago) and with a similar theme; seems a little suspect. I have had two children come through VanStory Hills and a third will start soon. We love this school. Great environment. Given the choice to live anywhere in and around this city, we chose our current home largely because of the school system. There's not a better elementary school in the area. We have the resources to send our children to private school if we felt the need, but we do not. Responsibility for a child's education does not reside solely with the school. This school presents every child with the opportunity to succeed.

As a military family, I can not claim to be a local "elitist" as some of the negative reviews claim exists (I think one could find that anywhere), but my children have been performing above grade level and among the best with respect to their peers. Having lived in and around this city off and on for 20 years, this is one of only two public elementary schools I would send my children to. We moved here to be in this school's area. And we love it.

The teachers have Been good at teaching the children to be organized and record their homework as well as placing unfinished work and work to turn in in perfidy place in their binders. The parent communication has been great. I feel that it is important for parents to also do their part at home in order to make the organization go full circle.

I would say that this rating should be based on individual teachers, but out of all the teachers that my kids had wether it was for a specialty class, home room teacher or a teacher who switched with another for specific subjects, all but one two been great! This was also over a course of many years.

In all the life experiences the students, parents and staff have come out and supported one another. The teachers teach through example and redirection/stepping into anothers place when inappropriate behavior reveals itself.

We are military and not home grown from the area but I have enjoyed the leadership at this school. We have seen some who have come and gone as well as seen growth with experience. We have always felt support in the good as well as he hard. We have seen some tough situations among the students as well as the teachers and everyone was there for each other. Everyone interacts well together, even the administration.

My own children needed some help and the school provided everything I could ask for. They were patient and kind as well as taught them some coping skills. One teacher even opened up her front yard to carry on with the kids in the summer. My children had different needs, but they we were happy with the results.

My son had some bullying issues and they were dealt with by both the home room teacher, a specialty teacher and the administration. The problem didnt go away overnight, but as the bullys parents became aware of the situation, we were all able to work together to make the situation go away. It wasnt just for my son, but for many students.

We have been in the neighborhood for 13 years as my husband works in and out of town. We have enjoyed our overall experience with the school.

This school has small class sizes - there are 18 kids total in my son's class - and a great atmosphere for learning. The principal is always interacting with the kids and giving them positive feedback - even just walking down the hall! Everyone who works there goes out of their way to make sure it is a positive learning environment!

I have not had any experience with bullying at school. Therefore, I have no information to provide.

There are programs that offer remediation and teachers are supportive in the learning environment. Students are supported academically.

The school has a welcoming environment and a positive culture. I do feel that the former assistant principal will be missed because she seemed to be the leader.

While there are special events to support families and there is discipline in the classroom, there is some out of control behaviors at after school functions and no one intercedes.

My child's teachers have all demonstrated that they cared about her academic progress and were supportive of her in the classroom.

Homework is manageable. I am tired of Accelerated Reading because it makes reading a chore rather than instilling a love for it.

While it is a very elitist school, my child has had wonderful supportive teachers. Ms. Helms, a former assistant principal, was very helpful and the reception by school staff is always warm and inviting.

This school's stats are misleading. The leadership is poor. The privaleged elite attend here and do not represent equal and fair treatment for all students. The PTA has entirely too much power and will influence the decisions of administration. Do not send your child to this school. Investigate fully before you choose to send your children here.

This school is a joke. The administrator presents himself as a professional but is anything but that. There is a definitely a problem here and most of the parents dont have a voice. If you disagree with anything, they will incite pressure on you to leave the school. They only care about their scores, no matter how it affects the student.

My daughter attended this school for 2 years before we moved and she and I both absolutely loved it. She never had any problems and was recognized for her hard work multiple times, even though we are not a part of a "community clique."
