The school is not what it used to be. there has been a lot of changes that make it a better place for my children in upper grades compared to when they started four years ago.

1st and 2nd grade were great for my child. 3rd and 4th grade was awful! My childs scores have gone down. The teacher is very dismissive of not only my child but other kids in the class. I know of multiple parents that are refusing to have their children go there next year. As long as it looks good then it's good mentality at that school. Hopefully someone will step in and change the way the school is going but I refuse to send my child to this school anymore. I really did expect better.

The school is an absolute disappointment to South Raleigh. Especially being a STEM school. My daughter started their when they were first built. Kindergarten and 1st grade were wonderful. Excellent teachers. After 1st grade, it has went downhill. The teachers do not care. They gossip and talk down to the children. Homework is rarely checked, you can go an entire year w/o meeting with the teacher or having any communication. I guarantee you they would not talk down to the kids if this was a school in Cary, Apex, North Raleigh. The principle only cares about test scores and not about the children actually learning and retaining the information. I'm praying to get my child out of this school while she can still function.

Very disappointed in this school, if the teachers spent more time teaching the kids, then socializing with one another the school would be halfway decent. I wouldn't be so quick to send your child to this school because its, " The new school." My personal experience is the teachers are very dismissive to the kids as well as the parents, BIG DEAL. If I can' t communicate with you then it's obvious my kids can't either. I understand new schools have a whole host of issues they need to conquer, but I need to know my kids come first, receiving the best education they are entitled to. I live in the neighborhood; therefore, this was my kids assigned school ,but I would have transferred them if I would have known better.

My child is a kindergarten at Walnut Creek Elementary School and has had a horrific year. The teacher's attendance was the worst I have ever seen of any professional in any profession. There was no consistency and the teacher worked for many weeks without a teacher assistant or support staff in the classroom, when she was actually present (which was rare). The teacher withheld snack from students as a form of punishment and yelled at the students as if she was arguing on the street with an adult. That is called abuse!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything about my child was gossiped and discussed with staff and others, which is unprofessional. The professionalism is nonexistent at Walnut Creek. The atmosphere at Walnut Creek is full of negative energy. The admin and secretarial staff are rude and condescending except for Ms. Nunez. Ms. Nunez has worked with our family in a professional and positive manner and we appreciate her greatly. My child will not be returning to Walnut Creek period!!!! Let my experience be a cautionary tale for you and be advised DO NOT, I REPEAT SUBJECT YOUR CHILD TO THIS ABUSE!!!

Walnut Creek is a unique school in that students come from a 3 mile radius around the area. This school also houses an elementary Deaf Education program, students in the kindergarten work to learn sign language to communicate with their peers. It is a Title 1 school that provides so many activities and experiences for students. There is a Pieces of Gold group in which kindergarten students learn to play violin! Wildcat Academy provides after school enrichment for students in reading. Each month we have had after school activities such as a Stomp show, Black History month program, skating party and so much more! The staff is committed to providing students with the best education and life's experiences possible.

Really great school; I have been told that there's a waiting list now. I would not doubt it at all!!

Free lunch for all, extended school day, plenty of additional resources for the academically challenged, new facilities & technology - YAY! However the overwhelming air of superiority received from majority of the staff is disgusting! There seem to be a few good teachers at this school, but they are overshadowed by the large majority of staff who lack respect, tact, professionalism, and the common sense. Unfortunate for the administration & a majority of the teachers at this school, all kids do not fall into that perfect mold of "being seen, and not heard". Staff seems to not be sufficiently trained in conflict resolution, or bullying prevention, and inappropriate social behavior seems to be acceptable. In my personal experience, I have witnessed racial & social economic stereotypes verbally expressed by staff as well as gossip and animosity towards students and parents that don't comply. After reluctantly allowing my child to stay here thru the school's 2nd year in existence, I am bowing out of trying to give this neighborhood school a chance. My child is too valuable for what I see as Wake County's "trial n error" school assignment plan at its worse!

Walnut Creek is a great school. My son and daughter both attend this school and they like it very much. Both of my children's teachers are very nice, and my kids seem to be learning a lot. They both did well on their EOG's last year. The school is fairly new, so it has a lot of cool features that older schools in Raleigh are lacking.

Terrible school. My son who was an honord student before he got there is now failing everything. Don't send your child to that school.
