As a parent, watching my child go from loving band and having the best days at school to quitting band and coming home crying is something I'd never thought I'd see. My son feels very unwelcomed and decided the only thing he could do to cut down his stress was to quit the one class he loved and excelled in. What I find insane is my child only has 24 minutes to get from his class to the cafeteria, get his food in a long line of students, eat and then get to his next class while other schools have 45 minutes! It doesn't even give students a chance to socialize and adjust to all the new people. Not to mention the gym uniforms are made of a material that is beyond uncomfortable, especially for students who have sensitivity issues. To add onto that students have barely any privacy when changing in the locker rooms from other students. And to make matters worse my child came home this last Tuesday to tell me that the other students were talking about how starting fights on the busses was more beneficial than starting them at school because of lesser punishments. For example, fights on the bus result in just removal from the bus while school gets 10 days of suspension. Lastly, one of the students my child befriended said, "it only gets worse from here." I 100% do not recommend this school.

If your child is late by 2 seconds or 20 minutes they are sent to ISS and miss the entire class period. The only benefit to them is they are marked tardy instead of absent, but zero instruction takes place for them at that time. The school is also over-crowded.

As a parent of two graduates (2016 & 2019), I don't agree with all the negative comments here. Conley has the highest standardized test scores and highest graduation rate in Pitt County. Student and parent involvement is good. No school is perfect.

The teachers expect homework to be done on time but work with students if they get sick and miss time. My daughters were in honors and AP classes and learned the importance of staying on top of assignments. It has served them well now in college.

Some teachers give piles of unnecessary homework that does not benefit the students, while others rarely or never give out homework. There are few that have a good balance between the two extremes.

Unfortunately, the VAST MAJORITY of teachers are either lazy, and essentially just "babysit" their students, or they simply have no idea what they are doing. While I will say there are a select few that genuinely care about their students and what they teach, there are so many others that are unhelpful, careless, and unknowledgeable. I feel like I could get so much MORE out of the time I spend in school if the teachers actually knew what they are doing. I mainly feel like classes are a waste of time, because I know so many of us have more potential, but they just don't help us reach it.

Many of the teachers lack control over their students, some establish from the beginning of the semester that they don't care about phone use, talking over the teacher, or not doing your work.

I feel like the differences between "standard" and "honors" classes are not much in terms of difficulty (in some departments). Also, many of the advanced courses (specifically AP classes) are taught by terrible teachers that, once again, either make the students do nothing or PILE them with unnecessary amounts of work that does not help us really "absorb" the information.

Overall, it's been a very disappointing experience so far. I feel surrounded in a learning environment full of unmotivated students that praise teachers who make them do nothing, and dislike teachers that actually enrich their learning. While some teachers are great at what they do and are very personable, there are so many that fall short in making the learning experience fun or worthwhile. They just do the minimum and nothing more. The sports department is great, but many of the extracurricular opportunities are not top-notch. Also, the campus is pretty dirty and is infested with bugs and rats. I hope that one day Conley will be able to provide students with a learning environment that helps the kids reach their full potential and fulfills their need for learning, but as of right now, this is unfortunately not the case.

Some teachers are awesome and some don't care about anything except a paycheck. And only punishing certain children when there are several doing the same act at the same time.

That may be the case in certain students, but not in all students. They break most of them down making them miserable.

Nope they say kids will be kids or oh it's just a small disagreement. Then punish the child being bullied. And they hand out suspensions lime candy. They should get it together and change up the way they do things. Maybe some new administration or the state step in and do something.

I dont care about Home work right now, D.H. Conley is excessively cruel when it comes to a child being late and its partly their fault when the system they have calls for a person to wait in line for 15 to 20 minutes once you arrive just to let your Child out of the Car to go into the school, Please give me a break!!!!

My 10th grade student Son started at D.H. Conley High this year 2016, He has had 4 tardy's (as they call it) 2 of which were my fault due to the 15 to 20 minute wait you have to go thru when you arrive at the Schools drive thru, My thing is this, Responsibility is good for kids but DON'T TREAT Them like Adults, Giving a Child a days suspension for missing one of the tardy's is excessive for a 15 yr old, From what I thought D.H. Conley is a good school but treating kids like adults is cruel, And they need a much much better system with the traffic situation when you drive your child to School, IT IS RIDICULOUS!!
