Rochester Middle School

I'm a current student at this school and it has NOT been fun. First off, I would like to make a point that during the winter our heaters barely work at all, and in the summer none of the classes have AC. Kids have passed out in hallways, 20 kids have been to the nurse for ice to keep cool, and many kids had so much heat exhaustion that they couldn't even carry their pencil to write. Other than that, the school is still horrible. Bullying issues, calling each other names, kids getting into fights, you're being completely unfair to students and favoriting, I could go on and on forever. The school's not safe at all especially not when it comes to physical fights and bullying. No teachers care to look out for students mental needs or what's going on around them all they do is try to teach the bare minimum (which most teachers cannot even manage). There is no responsibility when it comes to looking after the kids whatsoever and not to mention the favoritism with these teachers. Everybody knows that in the state of New Hampshire, phones during school hours are prohibited and the teachers will take your phone and put it in the office if you have it, so we thought. I've seen at least four or five students this year that have behavioral problems have their phones out and walk around the school but if a good kid that gets good grades even so has their phone and their locker and is texting for a very important reason, you will get yelled at and possibly suspended. I'm so sick sick of these teachers not taking in students reviews and feedback because clearly the school needs it badly. There's so many students that don't follow the rules and the teachers have just given up with most of them. Also, there's a problem with kids using AI because the teachers show them that it's okay. None of the teachers check for AI anymore and they never even care because all they do is want to get their minimum wage check. I do not recommend this school at all, all they do is try to take your money and not even put it to a good cause (like fixing the molded ceilings that are falling down as we speak).

I am a student here. I struggle with special needs and mental issues and they do not respect needs most teachers hate there job and do not respect the kids. There are some teachers that are amazing an love there job that deserve better. This school does nothing about bullying or tormentation if your thinking about putting your child in here volinterily DON'T YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! Im leaving with more mental issues and trauma than I went in with and than education I didn't learn anything new! Other than how fake people are and how you can't trust adults.

This school does nothing when bullying comes around when a child interrupts a class they suspend them but when is bullying (with proof) they dont do a single thing till last minute aka a no contact contract (which doesnt help) i do not recommend sending your children to this school.

Not sure how this school has managed a 5 star rating at all. I owned a home in Rochester and sold it because this school was so poor. The fact that other home owners call this school "Gen-pop" says it all. I do not think I have heard one parent say anything positive about this school. I have an autistic child. This school and this district did nothing but lie, and cheat my son away from getting the help he needed. I had to be at this school every couple of months to make these teachers comply with his 504 plan which is a legal contract. They also told me if we implemented an IEP he would not relieve a diploma, I have since found this to be a complete lie. When I caught staff members in a lie, I was yelled at and degraded by male teachers. I have since moved. The new school guidance and 504 coordinator let me know that everything in my son's file was illegal and done completely wrong for a 504 student. We are also seeking out IEP and he WILL receive a diploma and go to college with IEP. Think twice before buying a home in Rochester with schools like this one!

Remember as you look at the average score that people are more likely to speak up in order to complain that to be positive. RMS is a great school in a tough community. Despite the fact that parents and the community tend to not support the school (which results in budget cuts and un-involved parents) as much as other communities the staff do an outstanding job. They work hard to make the large school a tight-knit community, stay positive, frequently attend classes, workshops, and conferences to bring new methods and ideas back to the students, and are passionate about what they do. The community is rough, but don't confuse that with the school. Your child will receive a solid, thorough middle school level education. It has many clubs, sports, and organizations for students to get involved in, has a substantial about of technology, and is constantly improving.

Also, please note that since the negative posts below were posted the school has completely changed principals and assistant principals.

Rochester Middle school is the worst school ever. My daughter has been bullied all year. This is been made known to principle and guidance. This situation still goes on the group of girls get to punishment for there actions. It is about 20 girls who are bullies and this is well known to principle in school and she admits they a daily problem. My question is where is the line? why do these girls still get to go to school and bullied and get away with it? They wonder why fights happen the kids get sick of being picked on and don't know how to deal with. I love how they turn it around on the one is being picked on saying the are not confident and need a better self esteem to a 13 and 14 years old. Instead of taking reasonability When called on the carpet they say they have never heard from you which is an outright lie. I would not recommended the school to any one who has a caring child, loving child. Because one they leave the middle school they will not be. This school is the worst school and my feeling is they need to get a principle who is willing to take care of the students and who will recognize when there's a problem in there school and address it. Our school is amazing with very talented teachers and staff.The schools grades go through 6-8.Everyone there has a place as a Tutor,Assistant,or even someone to help others.Many have been successful in the process of going to the school.Our school has 967 students and counting.The lunches are homemade and "delish" also very healthy.The school has always been welcoming and wonderful.Winning would be highly appreciated.For supplying such as new text books,binders,pens,pencils,scissors,ect. I was a student who left last year. Honestly, there is no administration and punishment does not exist. I only really liked it there because I could do whatever I want without repercussions. A slap on the wrist here and there doesn't stop the truants, fights, and delinquents. Not to mention that there was an armed bank robbery next door, this school is not in the best location nor has the best standards around. If you want to succeed, you can, but if you aren't 100 percent committed to getting a good education, you'll get caught up in the "just pass the kids through" mindset. The school has some great perks...a devoted student council, NJHS, and a breathtaking Veteran's Assembly. Good luck.

This is a great school with wonderful teachers. The students put on a great Veterans Day program last month.
