Choosing PCA for our children has truly been one of the best decisions we have ever made. Since joining the community, our children have grown in both their learning and their confidence. Theyve built strong, genuine relationships with their teachers and classmates, and its evident that each child is truly known and cared for. The teachers do an incredible job of meeting students where they are, offering the right amount of both encouragement and challenge, while also staying closely connected with parents along the way.

Theres a real sense of partnership here, with everyone working toward the same goal of helping each child grow and succeed. Weve seen firsthand how the curriculum supports not just academic progress, but also personal development. Were incredibly thankful for the role this school has played in shaping our childrens education and character.

As parents of a daughter in the lower school at Portsmouth Christian Academy, I couldnt be more grateful for the experience our family has had. From the very beginning 7 years ago, its been clear that PCA is deeply committed to both strong academics and meaningful character formation.

The curriculum is appropriately challenging and encourages students to think critically while building a solid academic foundation. At the same time, the teachers and staff go above and beyond as positive mentors, genuinely investing in each childs growthboth academically and personally.

What truly sets PCA apart is the loving, faith-based environment. Biblical values are woven into daily learning in a way that feels authentic and impactful, helping students develop integrity, compassion, and a strong moral compass.

Our daughter feels supported, encouraged, and inspired every day. Weve seen her grow not only in knowledge but also in confidence and character. We are so thankful to be part of a school community that partners with families in such a meaningful way.

As a devoted parent at Portsmouth Christian Academy, I've prayed over my concerns about the recent direction towards online education, only to find my voice goes unheard. Despite sharing worries about my child's education and well-being in a spirit of Christian fellowship, the Upper School leaders have not responded with the humility and openness Scripture calls for.

With a heavy heart, I'm withdrawing my child, trusting in God's plan for our family's next steps. I pray PCA's administration will listen more attentively, honoring the Lord's command to value one another as family. May God's grace guide them forward.

I'm absolutely disgusted with Portsmouth Christian Academy. As a parent, it's appalling to find out that most teachers lack even basic qualifications - -some don't have proper degrees or certifications, which is utterly irresponsible for a school claiming to provide quality education. My daughter has been stuck in online classes and I've seen her confidence plummet because of it. The administration's lack of planning is shameful; they're just putting kids at risk. We're pulling her out immediately! -- this place is a disgrace and not worth the risk.

I had children in lower school. I would not recommend this school. Teachers don't get paid well and there's big turn over with teachers and staff every year. They seem more focused on increasing enrollment numbers than providing for the kids they already have. It didn't seem to me the teachers were well supported from the administration. Lots of inconsistencies.

The academics not as good as they lead you to believe. I found the math sub-standard. They only go on one field trip per year, usually go a farm. No museums or anything. They only have those little busses and not enough drivers. I'm not even sure if they do science in lower school. Their STEM claims are misleading for sure.

Everything very bare bones. There's not enough money. They think they can fix all their problems through increased enrollment. But at the end of the day a broken system isn't getting better by adding more students into it. It's chaos and disaster.

Kindergarten program is great but first grade and beyond very different. Limited projects. They just sit and fill out worksheets all day. Also, not a good school for kids who need extra support, there's no one to provide it. They advertise this Mosaic team but it's very understaffed. Kids who struggle and can't behave get sent to principles office. Their behavioral approaches are poor at best. Talk about killing self-esteem.

I was never in middle school but lots rumors of bullying. I was glad to get my kids out. As a Christian, I love an environment with values I share and for my children to learn in Christ. I'm sad that it wasn't what I thought it would be and that my kids had to change schools. At least they stayed open 2020-2021 school year and had better COVID guidelines than public schools. I was glad not to have a gap in my kids education. But time to move on.

As a current student at PCA I definitely have not had the best experience. I've been going here just about my whole life. I did go to public school at some point though and I had a better experience there. I really hope this helps parents/guardians out.

To start I don't have the best mental health I am on the bipolar spectrum. For those who don't know bipolar is when your mood can change completely different really fast, almost like mood swings. I have had a lot of kids at recess make rude comments like "give us a wrist check" or "are your emo or something?" "ew are you gay?" It's awful. The students need more discipline. My parents have called to school so many times to chat about what is going on. All they do is call me into the office have a little chit chat with me and the person who said those disgusting phrases, make us apologie, pray and leave. And then it just happens again.

I don't have much experience with the Christian education, so I don't really have an opinion on that sort of thing. I personally am not Christian I just go here cause my parents have bad experiences with public schools.

The learning part is good I guess they teach us all the stuff we need to know. I do wish they had a home ec class though. My teacher doesn't really make me want to try at school. My teacher isn't the best at helping kids with who struggle with learning, for example the kids with dyslexia she just says to try to read it anyway Wich makes no sense.

I know most of you will disagree with me on this one because you're probably sending your child here because of the Christian education. The school shows lots of discrimination to the LGBTQIA+ community. I myself am bisexual and hearing a lot of the "God doesn't want that for you" or "You have to love a man" really does not make me feel great. I feel like I don't belong there and that I'm not welcomed to be a part of the PCA community Wich makes me really sad to know that people are scared of me or feel weird being around me. It's sad to know that other people feel weird that I'm even using the same bathroom as them. Fortunately, I have found of group of like-minded people who are just like me as in the also identify as "gay" or "lesbian" or "nonbinary" and that treat me like a person and don't mind that I'm different. As it is something I cannot control I am very upset that they would treat students like myself like this.

Portsmouth Christian Academy has been a community that nurtures each student holistically; academically, spiritually, physically, and artistically. I have heard firsthand from so many students who tell me their experiences of growth, being supported to maximize their potentials, whether that be by finding who they are as an artist or performer, as an athlete, a scholar, or as a child of God.

I've seen how the community is one that comes alongside students who may be struggling. Speaking to the staff and faculty, it's evident to see the redemptive model of discipline and character building that shapes the grace and compassion that so clearly permeates this community.

The size of this school allows students to be seen and developed by their teachers and peers, allows them to experience and try their hand at interests before they embark on their career path, equipped for college, the military, the trades and beyond.

This is our fifth year at Portsmouth Christian Academy, and our daughter is thriving. Academics and extracurriculars are excellent. The teachers inspire their students to do their best everyday, and the students feel welcome, safe and loved and are kind to each other. I love watching the kids enter and leave school each day smiling! What a difference it makes when teachers, staff, administrators, students and parents all partner together to educate and shape the next generation of Christian leaders! There's a wonderful energy to this school that I haven't seen in other local schools. Put it at the top of your list if you're exploring a K-12 school!

I have 2 sons that have recently graduated from PCA, and are attending a highly rated public university. Both are Excelling, due in part to the study habits set at PCA. The Homework load required the boys to set proper time management objectives.

The teaching staff cares deeply for each child, and communicate well with the parents. On one occasion, a teacher approached us as parents, and asked if it was acceptable to grade our sons work at the college level (he was a freshman). He was clearly not challenged, he knew the material too well. To get the most from the class the teacher worked with us to continue to challenge our son.

PCA does not require the students to sign a "statement of Faith" but does require the students to follow a code of ethics. The character developed in High school helps define their character in College. I have seen multiple examples where the traits reinforced in HS are demonstrated in college. The requirement for 50 hours of community service per year helps establish a pattern of giving to others. to reinforce it is not "all about me" mentality.

Every school has its issues, no school has a 100% satisfaction, PCA is no exception, but I as a parent have been quite pleased with the way the administration handles unforseen circumstances. Is the administration perfect? No, they are human, we all make mistakes, but I have observed in the last 7-10 years a pattern of good, scripture led leadership. The school will work with the Parents if corrective action is required.

Bullying by physical, or cyber, both on and off campus are addressed quickly. many times the parents are included in the discussions. There is a environment of respect across the campus. As a multicultural school with international students, the cultural differences can sometimes be interpreted differently, and are discussed.

We as parents have had to make sacrifices to send our kids to private school, there is a cost; but would we change our decision to send our kids to PCA - No, absolutely not! If we had to do it all over again, we would in a heartbeat choose PCA to educate out children. The whole child is transformed into a young adult. Our experience has shown us that the young graduates of PCA are well trained and and spiritually adapted to enter the big bright wonderful world. Again, is PCA perfect? no, it is filled with humans that are imperfect, and make mistakes, but the guiding principles are grounded in Christian Faith, humility and service to our fellow humans. We have found the teachers to care deeply for our children, many stay in contact with them as they enter college, encouraging them to do their best. The administration supports the teachers, allowing them to focus on teaching and developing each child.

PCA's homework is designed to reinforce classroom learning. With ample opportunities for kids to get help during school hours (study hall and recess in the lower grades, and a dedicated 7th period at the high school where all teachers have a free period for student to get help), students have the ability to seek additional explanation for concepts that need additional review. There is a consistent amount of homework that families can plan their nightly (and weekend) activities around.

Teachers across the whole school genuinely care about the kids. It's a big enough school that they offer the full range of classes and extracurriculars (Mandarin Chinese, Robotics, AP classes, theater, music, athletics), but small enough that the teachers know EVERY child. They can tell when your child is having a rough patch and reach out to support them. They know their accomplishments and praise them. They know when it's your child's birthday, and wish them a happy birthday. The teachers all hold advanced degrees, and they continue with professional development during their time at the school. They have a love of learning that is contagious, and they love instilling that love in their students, encouraging curiosity and excellence.

One of PCA's core strengths is character development. The school is a Christian school, and as such, they hold fast to those values that help to turn out good human beings. Students are encouraged to problem-solve according to Matthew 18; to speak with respect to/of their parents, teachers and peers; to serve within their communities (home, school, town, church, missions trips, etc.); and to be persistent even when something is boring or hard.

The leadership at PCA is strong, forward-thinking and effective. They don't jump on every trend of buzzword in the field of education. They assess what's working for the students and their families, and make adjustments as needed. The leadership is very good about polling its community by way of quarterly surveys to parents and a bigger one conducted annually. They also seek feedback from the student body.

We have a son who is brighter than the average child his age and a daughter who struggles in some areas. PCA is known for its learning differentiation, so our son is supported with challenge groups for math and reading while our daughter is supported with intervention for reading. They are both being stretched to achieve their own personal potentials, even though they are distinctly different learners. This is something you can see across PCA's student population in the Lower School. Everything from speech therapy to dyslexia support to OT and math intervention, and also reading challenge, auditory processing and more.

Like any school, we've had years and classes that were dreamy and years and classes that left us wishing we could put a bubble around our children to shield them from some of the ugliness that comes out in kids sometimes. Once the teachers and administration catch wind of something, they are swift to put things into action to mitigate any bully-like words or behaviors. Because it's a Christian school, the students are regularly in conversation about how their words/actions are meant to build each other up. Not every family at PCA is a Christian family--and not all Christians are perfect--so there are certainly times when poor choices are made on the part of students. Teachers and staff are there to guide the kids, and the school reaches out to parents to partner with them in putting a plan in place that squashes any bully-like words/action.

Worst experience at a private school ever. Not a Christian student body, not Christian leadership. It's just a cheap prep school, competing in the Christian school market. If it were rated as a prep school, they would not be able to pull the 14K tuition. This school is all about the money, not the students.

Teachers and administration truly value the time students have at home with family and limit the amount of homework based on each grade. Each year, more homework is given--the assignments are strategically chosen to boost the student's understanding, not simply assigned as busy work.

From what I have witnessed, it appears that much is done to prevent bullying from taking place at all so that it, hopefully, never progresses to that point. For each of my sons, the children who make up each of their grades are extremely close. It's hard to believe, but there doesn't appear to be any "outsiders"--they all appear to truly enjoy, value and respect each other which makes me so happy to see as a parent!

Sending our son to PCA is the best choice we have made as parents. The educational experience is phenomenal. The Christ centered community is welcoming to kids and parents as well. The arts program is remarkable. And the sports program is a little gem that is growing in leaps and bounds.

My family came here 8 years ago because of the strong fine arts program - a place where the arts are central to the curriculum because the school recognizes we are all made in the image of a creative God. We have found the faculty at PCA to be incredibly accommodating and kind over last five years. We have two very different students; PCA has provided excellent differentiation and we couldn't be more thankful.
In our experience, we have seen the love of Christ shown each day. They have had opportunities to serve the Lord with their talents and gifts. From the small groups, to Chapel, to optional bible studies there is plenty of ways to plug in to grow in faith outside the required bible classes. My kids have found they are able to talk about real life issues and struggles with their teachers. That, is something you cannot duplicate.
Now, at the high school level, our kids have been challenged with honors and AP level classes in all areas. I cannot recommend PCA enough.

We moved to the Seacoast area from Maryland last summer and finding a great school for our 2 daughters (7th/10th) was our highest priority. After touring the school, meeting with both admissions and administration, we selected PCA for the 2013-2014 school year. Our experience thus far has been incredible. Both of our daughters are loving the school and enjoying all the opportunities it has to offer. They are being challenged academically and the Biblical worldview that we were looking for is woven throughout the curriculum. We look forward to a long relationship with the PCA community! Have you ever been to a school where the kids are genuinely happy; where the love of learning is so evident you just don't want to leave? The community feeling I get, as a parent, everytime I walk into this school gives me chills. Parents, students, and teachers come together in a way like nothing I have witnessed in other schools. This is the 4th school my children have attended, and we will do anything we can to keep them here until they graduate. The life lessons and relationships they are building are priceless. PCA keeps them challenged academically and continuously works with them building character through retreats, chapels, small groups, missions trips, and community service projects. The schools size offers them multiple extracurricular activies including sports, drama, academic competition, and much more. I cannot recommend PCA enough.

I really wish that the school staff would stop falsifying the positive reviews. I wish there was a way to ensure that the reviews here are true. This school is awful and the amount of hypocrisy and judgment that is placed on the kids is awful. The true foundation of this school is based on the most un-Christian manner and treatment and I am blessed that we found our way out to a better spiritual school that truly practices what they preach.

We pulled our 2 boys out of Portsmouth Public schools because the curriculum was incredibly poor! They are half way through their first year at PCA and they are so happy there! on wis in Jr high and the other is elementary. We are a Christian family and are so happy with how they are growing in their faith and knowledge of the Bible. The academics are great! They are challenged in every way. We are very happy with everything. Our boys love it and never want to go back to public, they know they are getting a much better education than their public school friends.

This is our 10th year at PCA! My oldest child started in kindergarten and my other two started in preschool. My oldest is now in high school. Their years at PCA have been such a tremendous blessing. All of my children love this school and have a love of learning thanks to the wonderful teachers and staff who are so caring and committed to helping each child discover their gifts and succeed.

My family moved to the Seacoast region almost ten years ago in order to attend PCA. We are so glad that we did! We love the school! As one of the other reviewers said, I'm not sure where some of the negative comments are coming from. PCA can't respond online to some of the complaining families because of student confidentiality-- I would caution readers that there are always two sides to every story. My own children are safe and loved at the school, have had wonderful teachers, and are challenged academically. PCA has won the state championship in math for the past two years, is the state's reigning Quiz Bowl champion (even beating Phillips Exeter and St. Thomas!) and has some of the highest SAT scores in New England. To say that PCA is sub par academically is ludicrous and unfounded. We're so glad that we've been able to be part of the school these past 10 years and are looking forward to another 10 years!

I m very surprised by the negative comments about PCA. My children have attended 3 separate Christian Schools in the seacoast area. One of their schools closed and another school was not academically challenging. My children transferred several years ago, and we have been extremely happy ever since. My oldest child is now in college and is doing very well. She scored very well on her SAT scores and was the recipient of enough scholarship money that her first year of school was reduced by 50%. She was not a writer when she first started attending PCA. PCA was instrumental to her growth; she received a 10 out of a possible 12 on her written portion of the SAT test, and scored a 4 on her AP test. I'm happy she doesn't have to take English as a freshman in college. My son is still attending PCA and I'm grateful for the wonderful supportive teachers that have dedicated so much of themselves to my children. As to the Christian aspect, my children and family have never seen any behavior that was not "Christ like". Extremely blessed to be a part of the PCA community!

As with all schools, some people will be happy, others will not. Our family is very happy with both the quality of education that PCA provides as well as the Christian atmosphere. We were not looking for a school to take the place of the church or the family in terms of teaching our children the bible. However, the teachers at PCA integrate biblical principals and moral values in all they do as well as concentrate on various books of the bible according to grade level. Our children are well adjusted, challenged and happy at PCA. PCA works hard to accelerate gifted children, allowing them to move forward in Math and other areas. PCA offers an extensive fine arts program and athletic opportunities. It is a joy to be part of the PCA community.

Horrible school. Scholastically the curriculum does not prepare students for college and the "spiritual" side is plagued with hypocrisy and judgement. We sent our children there and promptly pulled them out. Do not waste your money. Go to St. Thomas as it is a much more superior school.

Great school until they canned the Headmaster due to the previous Headmaster wanting to have the school back and does what he wants with having a son-in-law on the board and a daughter on the office staff and grandkids spread all thru the school. We are practicing Catholics who absolutely love Portsmouth Christian Academy. Portsmouth Christian Academy is a blessing to our family. As parents, we are extremely pleased with the school. The faculty is committed to the personal growth in knowledge and faith for every student. The teachers are kind and understanding; you can feel the love in the school the minute you walk through the door. Our two sons love their school and the teachers that make it so special. We are grateful that our children have the opportunity to attend a school that they love and where the love of Jesus is present.

I was raised with a Catholic education all of my scholastic life. Never ever in my life have I ever seen such un-Christian and hypocritical behavior from a community that prides itself in living in the "spirit of Jesus' teachings" Instead of ministering to students who need them at any given moment, they are quick to kick out students and abandon them. They should be ashamed of themselves. Sending our children there was a huge waste of our time and money. Disgusting, judgmental and false is what they are.

The teachers in the lower school are underpaid, several are barely qualified to teach, and the leadership is downright strange, almost robotic. They are all about the money. Don't be fooled by their self proclaimed love of children...its all about the money. They wany your investment, yet time and again, they will not invest in the children nor are they committed to helping the kids that need a little extra attention.
