My experience at this school was nothing but bad. They claim to be a college prep school, but fail to actually practice what they tell. I did not learn much at my time at Amy Biehl, and I didn't get a good high school experience. After the end of sophomore year, I decided to move schools because of the hate and discrimination that happened among an old friend group. The school is too small to move friend groups, and there is too small of a number of students to avoid those people. This school was very very small and did not provide enough room to meet lots of new people. Additionally, after moving schools, a lot of the classes I took at Amy Biehl not only didn't prepare me for further academics, but also didn't count as regular credits at my other schools, which required me to take extra classes AND have a full schedule as a senior. They also offer little to no AP, honors, or other advanced classes. They had such basic classes being taught that they would be considered behind. I did not like this school at all, and there was no good high school experiences. The location was also bad, especially since they let underage students out into the streets of Central for lunch, where I've encountered homeless people, drunk people, and people on drugs, as well as strange people hanging around the strip clubs located downtown. This school is nothing but bad news, and I wouldn't recommend this school to ANYBODY, especially if they want a memorable high school experience. At this school, they offer no sports, little to no clubs, or any fun extra-curriculars for students to explore or gain awards from. Many other schools offer chords, medals, and sashes for participating in school-offered clubs or activities. This school does not offer that at all, and they also don't offer a college-prep experience either.

Better than most high schools, we are given a lot of freedom, which makes us feel trusted. Going year round really helps when it comes to remembering things from the previous year.

Kids do whatever they want, they leave campus if they please.

They have mentors for kids who need help, they try their best to treat them like everyone else.

ABHS has a rabid Social Justice Warrior curriculum that focuses on white guilt and revisionist history at the expense of the three R's, but it's still an alternative to APS. Best for kids who wouldn't fit in at a big-box school. Good teachers for the most part, but they tend to lose their best to other schools after a couple of years. Some don't belong in the teaching profession at all. There is a substantial volunteer-hour requirement that would be better spent, you know, learning real academic subjects. Still, AT LEAST IT ISN'T APS.

Choosing to attend this school has really changed my life and changed it for the better. It has put me on track to the life that I want as a college-bound student. The school is very community-based and has lots of support. The curriculum supports the community, and before, in middle school and elementary school, I found it hard to fit in and found myself picked on a lot. Coming to Amy Biehl, that disappeared, and i found myself many friends. There are about 150 freshmen that enter the school, and only about 50 seniors that leave the school. These are the students that are college bound. Many students leave the school, and those who stay are ready.

This school has given me so much support through out the years. It is amazing, I mean you really have to stay on top of everything but if you do that, communicate with your teachers, the community and bond with them is amazing. Its a relationship that you will take with you.

I wouldn't have gone anywhere else for high school, and I appreciate all of the opportunities I have been given through Amy Biehl. However, this is a school for someone who is diligent about their work and willing to learn. The workload is intense but is often worth while. The main issue I have had with my time here is that if you want to go ahead of the class or start on something else it's not necessarily allowed and the class can become boring. I've really only had this issue with senior year. I do recommend Amy Biehl because I believe it is the best Albuquerque public school, but it really depends on the person attending as to whether or not they'll be a good fit.

I have had great experiences at Amy Biehl with teachers, I have also had terrible experiences with teachers at Amy Biehl.

I think it depends on the cituation, but the leadership is an interesting topic at the school. For the most part the students are set to lead and be independent, which mostly works.

The experience that I have had at Amy Biehl High School has been overall very mediocre. The relationships that I created to staff during my time at this school are one's that I value greatly.
Many of the teachers that I forged great bonds with have left and have been with sub-par teachers with little experience. I don't blame the teachers though, I blame the hiring process and the low skill set of efficient teachers in Albuquerque.
Amy Beihl's Curriculum is very progressive/liberal, almost to the point that I would not recommend any children who may have conservative views to attend this school. This was most prominently modeled for me in sophomore year.
This school is very difficult and should not be taken lightly upon entry. This is a school that will consume about 75% of your waking time if you want to do well.

Homework is a constant at this school, as essay's, Research Papers, Worksheets and a multitude of other formats will be a necessity throughout the experience.

Amy Biehl is strictly for those who are planning on going to college, it is not a school to get credits you are missing or to attend just for you diploma. Because it is labeled a charter school does not mean it is easy. Amy Biehl has a structure set up from sophomore year to senior year that helps understand and learn concepts of writing, reading, and developing work habits to prepare you for college. The teachers are wonderful they will help you of you ask at an appropriate time and encourage you seek help because the work can be difficult and overwhelming. I've heard people say that some class structures are harder than those at moderate colleges and I've yet to find out because I haven't graduated, but my experience with my college class was much easier than any class junior or senior year. The only teacher that doesn't offer frequent help and encouragement is Jax Sanchez, she often gets upset when you ask for help or a better explanation and thinks that when she explains something the first time we will get it and be okay which does not work. Another issue with the school would be the athletic programs, the athletics are unlike APS so it makes it difficult for athletes who are competitive at any sport to try and excel to the next level. Overall Amy Biehl is good school for those who want to go to college, if you are an athlete than I would recommend going to a public school because it'll be easier balancing work and sports and you will have a greater opportunity as an athlete.

As a graduate of this school, I have mixed emotions about this school. While my parents would recommend this school to anybody simply because I graduated; I on the other hand, do not recommend this school. The grading system in the Math courses is rediculous to the other systems. It does not challenge the student and makes it quite difficult for the student to recover from a bad quarter. Also, since the math is nothing like any college math problems, you have difficulties with going into college level math. The English program kind of helps, but it does not help you grow in your writing style until the last year and one year does not help with growing your writing style. However, the teachers will help you when you need to....but it feels more like a "crash course" more than actually learning the material. I do not recommend this school unless you want your child to have a decent learning experience with somewhat little learning.

Very happy my daughter made the commitment to leave her neighborhood school and dare to walk her own path in life. She has made some very good connections and friends that she would have never made if she stuck to the same old thing that was fed to her through APS. The classes are smaller, the teachers and counselors are always available, and there is no reason for any student not to pass their classes. After school and Saturday help is also available. Parents and Students need to start thinking outside the box. The world is a much different place than where we grew up in., and so are schools and education.
