The health office has a baby gate up. Why are students who aren't well not allowed inside the health office this year? They place them outside in the hallway instead. I went into the office recently to pick my own son up for an appointment and witnessed a couple of kids in the hall vomiting into trash cans. So inappropriate. This doesn't happen at the other schools I have been in.

Great school! Both my kids went through SYJ and were well prepared for middle school. Teachers and office staff are always inviting and helpful.

Overall, an excellent experience. Wonderful gifted program, the school participates in many activities such as national geo bee, spelling bee, national PTA reflections, one book-one school, and my two children are happy there. Similar to other reviews here, coming from out of state, I was concerned but this school has far exceeded my expectations. It could use some building upgrades.

Bad both teachers past two years push medications before discipline, structure and mislead parents about their progress
Posted: June 23, 2018
Horrible approach and very little feedback on the kids throughout the year
Posted: June 23, 2018
They all say your child is up to date and doing well till the end in order to push medications, also think they pencil wip report cards

I can't say enough positive about SYJ! Mr. Vermillion is the icing on the cake. Nothing gets past him. He is hands on and no nonsense. He has made this school great! The school encourages parent involvement and the teachers really seem to genuinely care about their students. There are loads of before and after-school activities as well as extracurricular activities. Although it is a fairly large school, it seems like the teachers as well as the nurses know each student by name. This school feels like a big, happy family. My child has thrived at SYJ! I still can't believe my post is the first in a year because I have NEVER met an unhappy parent since my son has been going here.

Is there anyone concerned with the condition of the SY Jackson facility? Although the school has positive reviews and the school has high academic ratings, I'm coming from out of state and am hesitant to send my children here because the building is not just old, but looks uninviting. The K/1 playground is also a sorry sight. Any word on possible updates to the building?
