The teachers try they're very best to teach the student. That's very hard to do ,especially in Albuquerque, where the local Governments concerns aren't on children.

This school and it's staff are appalling. Not a mature adult who knows what they're doing in that entire school. If you are a family who isn't practically paying to keep the school running, despite volunteering and spending hundreds of dollars a month in classroom snacks, you will be treated with little to no regard, and you can ensure they your child will not be getting adequate treatment. They purposely targeted my elementary age child. If there was an issue with her and other students the staff would single out my child, and she would be the only one to face any repercussions. The amount of times they SUSPENDED my child in first and second grade was astronomical, and when that didn't satisfy them they would keep her in ISS for an entire week. My child was talking about wanting to kill herself because she was made to feel horrible about herself by ADULTS. They did nothing to help her and every action they took put her in a state of panic or having feelings of being unsafe. The school wouldn't let her talk to me, and they would call me way too late for the problem to be resolved reasonably. I am not naive to my child and how she can behave, however, she was pushed to her breaking point weekly. Absolutely disgusting. Lori, you should be ashamed of yourself and your disgraceful school.

This school has been miracle this past year. We could have had a horrible year but our children have thrived at Mountain Mahogany. The director puts her all into supporting her staff and communicating. They are always checking in with families via surveys that really ask good questions and they listen.

Our teacher this year did amazing things with our kids. Tons of experiential exercises, fun learning, art, science, movement and even mindfulness. Everything is well organized and child focused.The class has a garden and we are doing one day a week of Covid safe forest school which has been so smooth.

I have really enjoyed the equity council and our teachers really take into the cultural needs of families. I think this must be a nice place to teach too because the staff are supported and the staff is super cool. The campus is also beautiful. Thank you Mountain Mahogany for all that you have given us this past challenging year.

We had a bad experience at this school. I do not recommend it for anyone. Bullying is ignored, teachers do not communicate with parents and classrooms are chaotic . The community created by other parents is the only positive.

So far our experience has been overall positive. The school is a small charter school with somewhat idealistic goals, which may be difficult to completely realize at all times, but I think that their core values demonstrate the fact that they have a genuine concern for the overall well-being of each child and family. The parent organization is very welcoming, and volunteering is required and encouraged so you get to see what is going on in your child’s classroom for yourself. The classes are small and resources are somewhat limited, but the curriculum is good and creative tools are used to demonstrate educational concepts. To me, the kids all seem to feel happy and safe. This is such a breath of fresh air from our home school with APS.

The school supports evidence based homework practices, such as nightly reading and with other reasonable homework expectations within reasonable timeframes that are age appropriate. I like that homework is treated as a supplement to class work instead of a classroom requirement, and children are not punished or shamed if they (or their parents) have things come up and it has to be turned in late.

The teachers seem to be working to find strategies to help build classroom communities that foster learning, while also allowing for the needs of each child to be nurtured. I think that many of the students and teachers in my child’s grade are new, so it is a work in process, but I think that everyone is trying to do their best for every child—which is refreshing.

This seems to be supported in the values among the staff in the classroom for the most part. The students are encouraged to understand their role in the community by demonstrating respect to others and the environment.

The administration is failing the children. Their quality of education is severely lacking they used to be a great school very nurturing and supportive and a great place for lgbt children but they are so disorganized the community is falling apart, and the education is simply not there.

This sweet little community school is the right place for your child if you're looking for great communication skills, empathy, community, academics, art, and play. Whole people are nourished here. The teachers and administrators are inspiring. We've had two children go through the program and have been very happy. Highly recommended!

I love the community environment. The word community is more than a catchphrase on the sign. My family has been embraced by the members here. The staff is engaged, educated, and operates with integrity. We very much appreciate the patience and love this school has shown our children.

Mountain Mahogany School is a new school this year for my Grandson. He is doing well and I enjoy getting updates and photos of him on his learning activities weekly. The teachers make a point to know all the kids names and recognize the parents during pickup. He is enjoying his learning environment at MMCS.

MMCS is a fantastic school in so many ways! My child has just started middle school and we are both impressed with the program. The teachers are inspiring and care about every students success. The communication with parents and the little personal touches make the mid school experience so special. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to get weekly photos and updates. Mountain Mahoghany Community Schoool is a new school for my daughter. The school's adminstraters and teachers are great. I haven't seen this much enthusiasm and involvement at any school that my children have attended in the past. My daughter loves the school, teachers and is excited about going to school every day. The school very recently experienced vandalism and a fire which destroyed much of what the school has worked so hard to accomplish. A compassionate campus and a safe school environment. If they could win this sweepstakes, it would greatly benefit the school at this time.

Over all Mountain Mahogany is GREAT! I have 2 daughters attending MMCS. My oldest was in a private school for 4 years, so it was a bit of a challenge at first with the lack of structure (and zero homework) in the classroom but now that she's in middle school it's been quite different. She has had some homework but not as much as I thought or think she should have, but it's still very early in the year and there is definitely more structure within the classrooms. My youngest is having a blast with finger knitting and gardening. Her teacher is organized, excited to teach, seems to have the class "together" (structured) and keeps the parents informed and involved. I'm looking forward to a great year! It would be such a blessing if MMCS won the sweepstakes, especially with the school just being vandalized. :(

If you're looking to drop your kid off at school and that's their education, then this school is unlikely to be a good fit for your family. If you are looking for a learning community to be part of as a parent, this school might be what you're looking for. There is mandatory parent involvement, a lot of community input into the functions of the school, and values/mission-based curriculum and culture. Go to their website and read their charter and other documents carefully, they are a good place to gain an understanding of the school's mission.

I've been going here since kindergarten! I love it the teacers help me with things I'm having trouble with and I always love making sure I have good grades!! I'm also am able to go on trips and com back and do my school work on the trip. They give that opportunity to see the world!! The school is like a family, a community we all work together to make sure we have a safe and healthy learning and growing experience. I feel welcomed for who I am. This is a really creepy school in a bad neighborhood, anyone can just get on campus if needed and there is no security. The office staff is rude and unorganized and this school needs to be closed down!
