I can't say enough good things about this school. Mr. Barlow is so welcoming and seems to really prioritize communication. I never have to wonder what is going on at school because he always tells us. The teacher communication has also been stellar. Everytime I interact with anyone at her school, they seem to know my daughter on a personal level and adore her. She loves going to school, she was miserable this summer without the engagement and structure she has at school. Finally, I truly believe that my child's safety is their top priority. They constantly demonstrate this day in and day out.

Thankfully, we still have a few years to go before she has to leave. It will be an impossible decision.

Teachers are hit and Miss, some great some terrible. Principal (Ms. Smith) is unwelcoming, rude and dismissive and openly favors some kids and parents over others. It is her poor example and favoritism that creates a poor environment unless you are one of her chosen few. Really looking forward to my kids moving in from this regime.

My concerns were not taken seriously by the teacher or principal.

2 hours each night for my 4th grader is no effective for homework.

Posted: April 30, 2019

My child's teacher was rude, hatted being at school and took her anger out on boys in the class.

I'm having to undo the damage a bad teacher can make.

When you make a complaint it falls on deaf ears.

Unless you are clinically diagnosed you get ignored.

Posted: April 30, 2019

My child felt intimidated by the teacher and was afraid to ask questions. Classroom sizes are huge and everyone wants to go there. They cannot handle the students they have. DO NOT GO HERE!

My child's teacher is terrible. Seems constantly overwhelmed and is very defensive. Has yelled at the children in her class and will punish the entire class for one kids behavior. She is completely disengaged and has no follow through. The community is nice and the other parents are as well. I hope we get a better teacher next year.

As a parent, I couldn't be happier with our experience at North Star Elementary. Amazing principal and teachers.

The school's leadership sets the standard for excellence that is echoed by the staff and educators. (April '13 parent must not have attended NSES as the princiPAL leads the school, not the princiPLE). NSES boasts many programs including a Technology program led by an APPLE DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR award winner (extremely high honor). Children are supported by committed educators who are backed by an influential PTA. We could place our boys in private school, but we would simply be paying tuition expense for an experience that doesn't match NSES.

Downside: NSES casts a large shadow onto its Middle School partner. You will be disappointed when matriculating to Desert Ridge Middle School after the experience of NSES. DRMS doesn't replicate the environment or results of NSES. This is where many could argue value for a private school setting.

Let's not be fooled by bogus standardized assessments that do not truly measure an educator's ability to teach. The vast majority of teachers at NSES are exceptional--some do leave room for improvement, but the principal builds a great team for the children of the school.

We left this school for a charter school down the road that offered many things but in the end it did not measure up to North Star Elementary. The teachers at North Star are amazing and the principal is top notch! We are glad to be back!

North Star Elementary is a wonderful school! The teachers are amazing! Look up student scores and compare them to the rest of the state. It is always published that New Mexico scores are at the bottom, but compare North Star's scores to both the district scores and the state scores!

This school is the best public elementary school in Albuquerque. It is also better than many private schoools. I am lucky that my child goes there.

The phone number listed is incorrect. the correct number for the school is: (505) 856-6578

North Star is an excellent school. The principal, staff and teachers all work hard to make it one of the best schools in Albuquerque. I wouldn't want to send my children to another elementary school. The principal, Mrs. Fascitelli, is responsive to suggestions. The school would not be what it is without her. Highly recommended!

The facility is great and has some good teachers, just depends on who your child gets. One if the school secretaries is outstanding the other acts like you bother her if you ask for help. The principle could use some upgrading. There is a lot of parent involvement which is what makes the students excel at this school. It is not comparable to a private school, don't let them fool you.
