Worst school ever my son has been getting bullied his teacher nurse principal and counselor knows about it my son does not want to go to school anymore school does nothing to pro text the students and to keep them safe all they do is defend the teacher and call Cyfd all because my son is getting hit at the point where he has marks on his arms and refuses to take off his jackets to avoid getting bruised up again they even deleted my class dojo because I “threatened” them by saying if they are not going to do anything to protect my son then I will take actions myself. This school is a joke but too quick to call Cyfd and the cops on me.

Had a very bad experience with the nurse's, our daughter is on a feeding tube and the school called cyfd and stated that we are not feeding our child, nurse also stated that we need to schedule our doctor's appointments when school is out? Doctor in Colorado was very upset and said we will take her to her appointments whether school is in session or not. Lost almost $800 from having to take time off to meet with both schools (other daughter went to school next door) also interviewed by CYFD. If you have a kid with disabilities please stay clear of this school. Doctor said we are doing everything perfectly and her weight was excellent. Sad situation

This School likes to hush and roll things under the carpet when you show concerns. My child was discriminated against and bullied by a teacher who still works there. Alot of parents are confused as to why their kids don't want to go to school is because of the same teacher. I asked to have a meeting with the teacher with the principal present, and it was a lot of beating around the bush. I never got to meet with the teacher. When teachers were bullying or making negative remarks about my child the assistant principal retaliated and said because I showed concerns, they can't keep her safe, when she made that comment I asked for the principal to call me and all honesty I don't even think she passed the message along as I tried to contact her more. I am forever grateful for the teachers that did stand up for her, but I am concerned about the safety of the other children who go into Gelenna Apodaca's. I saw with my own eyes when she greeted all the kids in the class then rolled her eyes and disgustingly said good morning to her, she also made fun of her vision impairment which I did bring up to the principal. After all this they still had her around my daughter. This lady also send a disgusting message stating my daughter didn't belong there. Who in their right mind says that about a kid? Especially in kindergarten. If your child has this teacher and they are crying that they don't want to school, please investigate. As soon as my child was moved, she was looking forward to going to school and she learned a lot.

I was not informed of multiple confrontations my child experienced while attending Helen Cordero. Honesty is the same as policy integrity, and it IS the schools policy to call me when there is a violent altercation. Enough Said

My child was bullied and the administration did not respond in an appropriate manner. The CPS asked me to work with APD since the injury was quite extensive. I do not recommend this school due to the sheer amount of bullying that I have observed. I won't touch on the other issues such as the educational factor or the bad parking...

The parking is terrible, cars are lined up on the street and in odd corners of the parking lot. Both streets that the school is on become congested during drop off and pick up. I heard that the reason for the to small parking lot was to get people to walk. I walk my kids everyday but this sucks when weather is bad. I have never felt comfortable with how the school conducts the picking up of the kids after school, it is chaotic and I'm often worried about my kids safety during this time as parents and kids are mingling and running all about the place. I have only felt safe when my kids were in preschool and kinder because then you can pick up the kids at their class rooms. I have reported my concerns to the office multiple times only to be blown off and told that it wont change and that they are handling it the best way possible. During registration the staff wont give you the documents you need to fill out until you have stood in a line that wraps all through the office building and then produce your residency papers as if we would waste our time and their paper only to reveal that we didn't live in the area. This takes such a ridiculous amount of time that I left and came back on a "non registration" day. The front desk staff, particularly the lady at the front most desk where one reports tardys and what not is all around very rude and treats parents like they are an inconvenience when they have a need or complaint. The other people in the office are also rude and rough to work with. The principle has blown me off about many issues concerning my child's safety, even when it related to bullying. I also hear teachers and staff members yelling at kids and my own kids report to me that the teachers yell. Some things I have liked was the pre-k teaching and teachers and I like the offer of after school clubs however I ended up taking my kids out of them after my son got lost going to his club on his own since the kids are not escorted by an adult after school to their clubs but are expected to take themselves to them. I like that the school tries to get parents involved by having many activities at the school but the assault of rudeness and negative attitudes of the office staff often make it seem like they rather you didn't come no matter how polite you are. If you can take your child to a different school then don't hesitate. The A ranking is misleading.

I think leadership trickles down and with how rude and arrogant the main office staff is and with the yelling of teachers, which shows lack of control, I cannot in good conscience believe that the school develops much better than that in the students.

I am a new staff member at HCPS. I am impressed at how respectful the staff is to each other. I am sure this reflects to the children.

I am so sick of the administrative staff yelling at us like we are children but then went respect back. I only have my child in this school because at this point I have not other choice. You have to walk your child to the back of the school to get them to class every morning which can take up to 10 minutes to walk there due to lack of parking and if you take a short cut you get yelled at like a child. For me to register my two youngest it took over 3 hours because they only allow two parents in at a time, then on meet the teacher day my daughter was not even registered for any class yet. So I had to wait in like for over 30 minutes to talk to the principal who put my child in a overly full class. My daughter got attached to the teacher and then they moved her to a different class. And she is still not fully in their system. Safety is what they preach but you can walk right on campus without even worrying about staff stopping you. I think it would be more common sense to only allow parents in from the front of the school where the office is and not the back. Only thing I like is my daughters teachers.Avoid this school as much as possible until they get a better administrative staff

This school is horrible. My daughter went to this school her first grade year and she had two teachers that year. The first teacher up and left they had a substitute for a month. They lost my daughter three times at this school pointing her to the wrong daycare vans and sending her to thee after school program.The principal herself sent my daughter off on the bus without calling me. I would never put her or any of my other kids there if it was my last option.

Ever since Helen Cordero separated from Edward Gonzales, the Administrative staff has been NOTHING but problems! For this school being only yards away from its sister school, there is a world of difference (and NOT a positive diffference). Principals arbitrarily make decisions regarding discipline. Principals refuse to handle contact with parents through to completion when issues do arise. Horrible school. I wish it never had separated from Edward Gonzales.

My child is a very active and he really enjoys school. This is his first year at this school and I see improvements in his behavior and his learning. I really enjoy the fact that they expect parents to do their part and that they concentrate on making it a co-op effort between the parents and teachers. Honestly I didn't expect to like this school due to what I have heard, but I really love it!!! My son Loves it and his teacher. The way they work the drop off and pick up in the morning could be improved upon but other than that I have no complaints!!!!

My son attended this school for less then 1 academic year. If you are thinking of enrolling your child in this school, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere! They are not focused on the academics, well-being, or the school environment of the students. I found that the priorities of this school were not focused correctly on things that should be of higher importance. Furthermore, unfortunately there are things going on in this K-2nd grade school that children of these ages should not even be exposed to muchless have knowledge of at that age. Due to some very disturbing incidents we were forced to unenroll our child out of this school. When I spoke with the teachers about the incidents, their comments were they were not suprised & they were aware of the big issues that were going on at the school. Keep in mind if you're considering this school.
