This is a horrible school. My child was bullied by his 4th grade teacher, refused to communicate with me as a parent and consistently kept my child in from recesses. (Exact same experience as a commenter below. Exact) This teacher was unprofessional and burnt out and should have retired. We had multiple meetings to try and find solutions and I asked multiple times for direct communication with me as parent so I could support my child and back the teacher up if I needed to but this teacher absolutely refused to communicate with me. She treated my 9 year old like a third year of college student. It was almost like she insisted on keeping everything secret so her bad performance as a teacher couldn't be called out. If I wasnt an involved parent and let her behavior slide, she would've broke my child down to any joy in learning and confidence in themselves. I did end up pulling my child from the school mid year when the principal refused to follow through with the (very weak) solutions created for the situation during multiple meetings. She also refused to at the least remove my child from this horrible teachers class.

Also they do alot of "parent" and "family" engagement activities but they cost a ton. As a low income family this was stressful. Constant fundraisers where they dangle prizes in the children’s faces, and jean days, shirt days that cost money. Teachers ask for mandatory supplies through out the year they call "donations". I think for a Halloween event I spent 80 for my two children to play their "games" and hangout with friends was outrageous for a "school" event that they only got a sandwich bag of candy each from after. They charge for everything! Was disheartening to see my children miss out on things for this reason.
Will never send any of my children here again.

We have been at HAW for 2 years so far and love it. My son started in Kinder and was reading by the end of the year. I feel like he has learned a lot so far! My daughter is in the prek and they both love it here and we have liked the teachers so far. So far we have had good communication with teachers through class dojo and they also allow for volunteers. We especially love the 4 day week. My son does recieve a lot of hw but I like it bc i can see his progress and what he’s doing so I’m not in the dark about his academics. They also have quite a few activities throughout the year to bring the community together. They do wear uniforms but get special days to wear other things. I recommend this school to others all the time.

Amazing school. I toured many and liked this one the most. Teachers are amazing, administrators are amazing, safety is incredible. My child loves it and so does our family.

This is NOT a great school if your child has a autism, ADHD, or learning disability. You have to force their hand for accommodations because they will only do the bare minimum, or what's required by law. My oldest child went to this school and it was a good fit for him because he is very smart. They do give a lot of homework! My youngest has ADHD and it has been a nightmare to to get his teacher to provide accommodations. They are inflexible. You do have a handful of teachers that are amazing there, but to the rest of the teachers it's just another job. The teaching is geared toward the smarter kids and the rest get left behind. Teaching to the smarter students is what boost their test scores. They don't have a lot of help for the students that really need it and when a child really needs help they get passed on to the next person. When that doesn't work they want to take the lazy way out and cut homework down instead of really helping. If you have a child that needs extra help and are looking for a good school this is not it! Your childs rights to a fair education will be violated. A school is only as strong as its weakest student.

I really love this school my daughter has learned so much in so many ways from education to being considerate, respectful and knowing how to take accountability for her actions. I love this school and their teachers

9 out of 10, after switching from 3 deferent schools, finally found one with a higher score, i put this school to test seitching the girls for a couple of months to a texas school then brought them back when I was told they were getting the right education.

I feel that the teachers at HAW develop honesty, integrity and fairness in its students by their examples and teachings. They are consistent and hold high expectations.

Our daughters have attended HAW throughout their preschool and elementary years. Our experience with HAW staff has been very positive and they (teachers and staff) truly have our kids' best interests at heart. In addition, our daughters have thrived academically and are performing above their grade levels in reading, writing and math. We were thrilled when our oldest transitioned to middle school with above-average academic performance across all academic areas. Socially, the school holds many family functions that brings our community together. Love, Love, Love Horizon Academy West!

Best school I have ever been associated with. Teachers are extremely professional and willing to work with parents. Administration works well and listen to parents, staff and students.All staff are interested in doing whatever is practical that will help the child. They do have rather strict rules pertaining to attendence, and parents should realize that in order for students to do their best, good habits must be learned and punctuality is part of learning. Serious discipline problems are rare and students enjoy knowing where consistant disciplinary boundaries stand. Overall great school with great teachers, attentive administration and wonderful warm learning environment, what else could any parent wish for?

haw is a great school your kids dont just get in trouble they have to be doing something bad i am a current student there and it amazing if you want to send your child to go to a good school go to haw is it is strict but it is good all lose comments are not true the staff are amazing

I have been unsatisfied with HAW's OVERLY STRICT RULES regarding tardiness. I do not agree with the miscommunication I have been given by my child's teacher and other staff. I was misinformed twice, what times to bring my child to class and in result, my child has been counted as tardy for those two times, and no leniency was given to my child for mistakes on staff's part. I believe the staff does not take time to listen to parents and takes no responsibility for miscommunication to parents, which I believe would be more professional. In addition, I feel the consequences for tardiness are too strict and should only be applied to student's who miss 5 or more COMPLETE DAYS of school without written excuse. I was very excited to bring my son to school and expected it to be more of a fun learning experience for my 5 year old. However, I now feel like he is instead treated as if he is attending college and punished for something he has nothing to do with. If my son were to be tardy 5 more days and taken from recess, I believe he would be completely confused, wondering in his 5 year old mind, why he is getting in trouble for something HE DID NOT DO!

I sent my twin daughters to HAW for 6th grade to avoid the huge local middle school (LBJ). They had a wonderful experience (how many of us can say that about 6th grade?) Both 6th grade classes are taught by strong, intelligent MEN. Just what 6th grade boys need to relate and tow the line. I am so glad they went there-now they are much more prepared for middle school.

I have never encountered such an awful experience as I did with the staff at Horizon Academy. After reading the reviews and speaking with other parents I decided to listen to the positive rather than the negative. I truly believe I made the biggest mistake ever by putting my child there! From the very first day I entered the building I received bad if any customer service from the secretaries. Not only are the policies and procedures ridiculous but my child and I were harassed on a weekly basis by the staff. Dropping your child off in the morning is absolutely insane because there is nobody directing traffic. I brought this concern up several times worried that someone would get hurt, and nothing was ever done! The staff closes the gates at 7:45am, if you are dropping off your child at that time the staff member will literally close the door on your child s face. If your child attends the after school program, finding your child at the end of the day is infuriating like playing cat and mouse. The so call professionals of the school have no people skills! Ultimately, my child and I are extremely excited to move forward and leave this experience far behind us!
