ASE is great once you get past the culture shocks - the house system was something I hadn't seen before, but it's helped me meet new people and given me extra reason to try hard to do what the teachers ask or be nice. My old school didn't have as many club or elective choices. It also didn't have dual credit. I'm learning a lot more about people and the school after moving here and I feel really good about having the help I need.

I have three children who have attended Albuquerque School of Excellence, and Ive seen amazing growth in both their academics and social skills. The school offers a wide variety of after-school clubs, keeps parents well-informed with weekly bulletins, and provides strong mentoring through homeroom teachers. The results are clearstudents at ASE perform nearly twice as well as the state average in Math and Reading. Even more impressive, 15% of students receive special education services, and they are performing three times better than their peers at other schools. ASE truly supports every childs success, and I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a school that delivers both excellence and care.

If you have a student in this school or planning TAKE THEM OUT. This is a despicable excuse for a school run out of an old Albertsons. The staff is highly unprofessional and uneducated as they come with ZERO Social skills. They even go as far as to discriminate against special education students and students they dont deam college worthy when in fact their just a cheap two bit charter school trying to be Howarts with lost funding and lawyer who has had already warned them about their despicable approach to students. Oh and 15 minute lunch break for students just to get yelled at. Hows that for a break down? No where near how broken of a school they are.

I wish I never brought my school to this school and because he CT a hes are difficult for him weve kept him here. The staff are by far the rudest. Their parking lot is a joke. They yell at the wrong parents. This school has a lot of favorites and when it comes to children who need a little help with academics they will ask parents for solutions because they dont have the right teams in place to support children. Not children with behaviors but children who may need accommodations. The parking for pickup and drop off has to be the worst. This school only cares about packing students like sardines. Poor students dont even have a playground to run and enjoy free time. They often play in the parking lot which is very dangerous. The school is not equipped to serve all these children. Poor school meals as well. The support system lacks severely and your child is only a number. We had such high expectations but for being a school of excellence their communication is poor. I do not recommend this school for new families. Save your time and get your student in a school that cares.

My daughter is a middle schooler at ASE. I wanted to find a middle school that provided a supportive community with a focus on academics and character development. I believe we've found that in ASE. She has made friendships and is thriving academically. Thank you ASE for all you do. PTO is active and communication is consistent.

My kids 4th year in ASE, they love it. is a great school, with successful, well-educated, professional teachers, a STEAM-based school. The school offers many opportunities for my kids (Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, E-sport, Robotics many more clubs, tutoring, dual credit, etc.
ASE is such a Safe & Secure place. Amazing Administration and District staff are always responsible.

We agreed on a schedule when our student started and it immediately changed without them telling us. They made her take Turkey.. I spoke with other parents and none of their children want to take Turkey either Some of the teachers have their own religion they should not be imposing on our child either.

This school invites good students to apply and treats them like criminals. Overly strict and stern, not just where the uniforms are concerned. The administration and process of starting school was the most chaotic I've ever experienced, during the open house there were dogs wandering the hallway and 3 days later they've yet to "fix" lockers to make them available for students. Most of the classrooms don't have the correct numbers, nor did they supply students with maps ... but were more than happy to mark students absent or trade on THEIR FIRST DAY. This school chooses to waste valuable learning time with some broke version of Harry Potter cosplay and has "house time" where their version of HP houses meet up to gab? It's a really strange concept for kids as old as middle schoolers and god forbid high schoolers.
Speaking of high schoolers, don't bother applying if you have an 11th or 12th grader. They need to leave the building by 1:15PM each day and take all of their additional classes like electives at the local college. I'm not sure how ABQSE benefits or gets rewarded/celebrated from school scores and the success of students who are learning at another school (or on the computer at home through CNMC) but okay.
My younger son's math teacher never showed up after being hired, so he and other kids spent 45 minutes sitting in a room quietly.
The trash was so overflowing into the parking lot that it impeded traffic.
If you enjoy your student playing in a filthy parking lot for any outside time, having no sports to support their growth and development and expect your kids to be treated like juvenile delinquents - this is the school for you.
We lasted two days before we pulled both our kids out of this school. I really struggle to understand their high ratings, other than most of the positive reviews on FB are cryptocurrency scams and PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE.
My kids went to other schools that are using all of their time at school and providing a more well rounded overall experience.

Our children have been attending ASE throughout the pandemic. We have been pleased with how the school has handled the return to in-person learning and prioritized student safety and health by exceeding the recommendations the state education department has set for schools. Our children came out of private school, and they fell right in line academically. The teachers and staff have been excellent, and we wouldn't consider sending our children to another school. They have made great friends and enjoy their time at school while still being challenged and engaged.

Ms. Martinez in the special learning department is a great asset to this school and is very strong in her planning and assessing skills. There doesn't seem to be full support from all programs and teachers of study for her or the students with specific learning needs.

Overall, if your child is high achieving (easily makes A's and completes assignments quickly) and in lower grades (1-4), beware as your child will not be challenged and this school is far more focused on the higher grade levels and their achievement.

As a note to ALL TEACHERS, common core is meant to give you as the instructor a better way to teach math concepts. You are not supposed to force every child to do every method. The whole point is to work with kids and have different methods to apply in case they don't understand the first way taught and have multiple ways to teach the same subject matter. Forcing kids who understand a topic to do things 4-5 different ways leads to disengagement and boredom which is a fast way to drive any kid away from math.

This school has other kids to focus on that are in "need more help" (aka already making c's and d's) if your kid advanced and they refuse to alter curriculum to challenge kids who are bored by the subject matter being taught.

Other notes:
-Asking children to help other kids because you as a teacher are overwhelmed due to too many kids in class sizes is just wrong.
-Taking away children's only recesses because of children acting out is just silly and definitely not aligned with child development.
-Having 27-28 kids in a classroom without a full time teacher aide is just setting up kids and teachers to have difficulties

Overall, I would not recommend this school.

Some of the teachers are pretty good. Others can barely speak English. The school hires too many teachers whose English proficiency is very limited, which is a bad thing when teaching something complicated, like math or science. Other teachers are good, but I bet they won't stay.

The principal's communication with parents is very poor, and his social skills are also rather lacking. I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing, or what, but the school in general just does not do a good job telling parents what is going on at the school.

The gifted program is really a joke. A pull-out class once a week where the students are made to do extra work is not serving their needs. My son should have been moved into harder work, not given extra work and made to do what the other kids were doing when he tested grade levels ahead.

Overall, this school has potential, but there are too many problems that need to be dealt with. The school hires many teachers whose English language skills are lacking, and the principal's English skills are not much better. The administration needs to work on its communication so that parents know what is going on at school. Also, more free time is needed so that kids can get some energy out so they can focus more on learning. Overall, my kids were just not happy here, and I don't feel that they learned much, either. Very disappointing.

I love this "A" rated school. I came here when I was in 6th grade. The food is an option. I can't wear anything I want because there is a dress-code which I will have in professional life. When I throw my trash on the floor, the school becomes dirty but if I keep it clean, it looks clean. Dr. Orsun asks students to write accurate comments rather than accusing the school when the bad kids get in trouble... Yes, unfortunately, we have bad kids in this school and they don't like this school because teachers challenge us and we must prepare STEM projects. I personally tell my teachers to utilize Positive Reward System more and more so that these kids don't blame (the teacher is picking on me) them when they get in trouble.

Our son has attended ASE since it opened. He has been there going on his 6th year. We are very grateful parents who appreciate all that ASE has offered over the years. He has not only learned above grade level but has more importantly found the true meaning of friendship, community and unity. We have seen many changes throughout the six years. Most important to note is the expansion of the school. The extra curricular activity's. The science and robotics programs. The positive behavior reinforcement system. I have to also give a huge thanks to all ASE staff!

My children haven been attending the school for 4 years now. Both of them are 2 grades above in Reading and in Math. They are honor roll students. The administration provides great support for the children as well as families. I would recommend this school.

This is a very strict school with zero tolerance for mischief. My son found this school to be boring with no stimulation whatsoever, no windows to look out, no fresh air, filthy parking lot, strict stuffy teachers with poor English skills, and two principles that act like they are running a military school. I have the impression that they would like this to be an all Turkish/Arab setting. My son cried every day and did not want to go to school, I placed him in another charter school and he is now thriving and happy to go to school every morning. This school was a complete waste of time.

I do not recommend this school, principal never listen to parents. Women teachers get frustrated because is a Turkish man managed school. They have a directorship style, detentions for every thing, rules for everything. Most of the credit they get is because of a few kids that win in Mathcount, Science Fair, robotics, art, etc. But overall, I am very disappointed after 4 years. Good students move from the school as soon as they can and their parents find that the school was not what they were expecting.

My children attended ASE for 2 years while we were still stationed at New Mexico. It's a very small school with a small student body, but that is because it's a fairly new one. They are very attuned to their students and guide them academically. Yes, most teachers are very strict but only because they want their students to succeed. My kids are always getting rewarded for getting all A's. No, they are not "puffed-up or unearned" grades either (as one parent mentioned), because my kids do as well in other states that we move to/from. They actually EARN those grades and ASE gives out awards every quarter for a job well-done. The teachers here are also pretty good about emailing me about my kid's grades, behavior, or just about any updates. This school strongly encourage parent involvement. My family LOVES all the competition, bees, fairs, etc that the school participate in and encourage the children to join. My son still talks about this school even if we have moved a thousand miles away already :)

This is a great charter school doing excellent job even though it has been recently founded in 2009. Its students are getting the top scores/ranks in science, STEM and other competitions in the state already. Also, it has great location near Tramway and Lomas. If I could give 0 stars I would. A very disturbing atmosphere with racism and puffed up unearned grades. kids are sad and bullying is ignored and although they market it as a non bullying school they don't acknowledge any complaints and target anyone who complains. feels like the twilight zone.
