I would not recommend this school! just in the last week a TEACHER walked into iss and pointed at my son and told the other teacher "I wouldn't worry about this one he is a waste if space." My son has disabilities and deals with the fear of people hatred towards him. Another incident where he was taking a test and the teacher refused to let him use the restroom and he pooped himself. I cannot believe how the teachers treat the kids like this.

My experience at the school is absolutely terrible. I have a special needs daughter who has an IEP and the people in charge of the IEP are the most incompetent people have ever met. The teachers of the special education are equally incompetent and argumentative even with the children in class on a daily basis. One of the special education teachers is so disruptive with my child that I have been given the option that if I didn't like it but I could drop the whole IEP. The lady that is one of my daughter's special a teachers said to me that they sure don't want to be giving extra help to those who don't want it quite rudely I might add. When there's an issue that I go reach out to any of the other team I'm get no kind of help whatsoever and the bad behavior of these teachers is actually backed up. It's actually harming my special needs daughter and I'm absolutely considering moving her from the school which is wrong for having to start my daughter all over somewhere she doesn't know anybody at. I'm having to consider this because of the terrible conditions that are being provided to my special needs child. I've gone quite a few times in the last couple of months to the school and get nowhere.

I had alot of family issues and they never cared about my or others mental health and the counseling is pointless they do not care im not going to point out names but my counselor didn't care at all even when i tried to fill out a cit form so i could go there she pretty much told me i couldn't go there because i wasn't zoned there and just so everyone knows that form is because Im not zoned so she pretty much said she doesn't care to try and help me so I stopped going there

I stopped going to this school because of all the problems that no one is doing anything about. Everything about how the school is run and how it works is a joke. Not a single teacher actually cares about us students or our mental health. The teachers are also rude and think that they know everything and when they are corrected by a student on a subject they just send the student out of the class for "being disrespectful". Not to mention that it starts way to early in the mornings, most students don't even get a good nights sleep due to all the unnecessary workloads. There is also a lot of bullying that goes on that teachers and staff just ignore.

My experience at this school was if you looked black you would get suspended. These teachers would suspend anyone for anything

out of all four years i feel like only four or five of my many teachers actually gave a dam about the students and their goals in life. (only including the teachers still there today) I have found that when most teachers reach their tenure thing they stop caring and just sit back and pass along students.

When I first transferred here, I was scared because all the kids I went to middle school that bullied me go here. I transferred from Hug with only a week left of my junior year. I loved it and now as a senior, I love it even more, my counselor and teachers got me through the HSPE and now I'm graduation on time! The school even cares about their students!

As a new student to NVHS I wish I can say positive things. I have felt like I cannot reach out with a problem to a teacher, counselor, or principal. I have had my emails ignored due to most teachers don't seem to have the time to help me with math questions, pretty much all I get is come back during lunch and see me, when I do they're not in their classroom or available to speak to me. I brought it up to the counselor and was promised to have a meeting. Finally after a few tries I had to speak to my parents about it, which they call the principal and was promised many positive outcomes which made me feel better, but once it came out to reality, it didn't follow through as promise. I'm so stressed out because we're only a couple weeks into the school year, we have scheduled to speak with the area sup now, hopefully this will meek a change not only for me but for all the other students that feel the same way and are too shy to speak up. Final choice if all comes to worse would have to be changing schools. I remain positive to hope for a great outcome to this.

MY school? My school is amazing. There are teachers that don't seem to interested in what they're doing, but within my two years of the school (I moved) I've only experienced one disinterested teacher. All of my teachers have been there to help and try to make us grow as students. They have offered before to be there during lunch and after school. It is my personal opinion that some students like to blame their failures on others. Too many times I've heard that this or that teacher is a "bad" teacher while the student hardly tries on their homework or copies off of someone else. Too many times I've heard that a student thinks a teacher is being rude, when the teacher makes them put their phone away and stop disrupting people around them. The teachers are doing what they can to help us understand, but "you can take a horse down to the river, but only it can decide to drink the water". This school just like any other (and yes even the ones that seem really good) has its group of "rebels". The people who smoke and/or drink. This group only seems prominent, though, when you have a tendency to be around them. You can have an amazing experience. You just need the right attitude.

This school has a diverse student body and a dedicated faculty. The teachers are very involved with student activities and athletics and very supportive. The building is kept very clean and most of the students really care about their school. There is a great deal of school spirit and many students are motivated to take AP and honors classes. When there are issues with student behavior (like the smoking area mentioned in a previous post), the administration puts an end to them, and provides affected students with the opportunity to become better educated about the issue and to improve themselves. Students who attend NVHS have the opportunity for a dynamic high school experience that has the potential to prepare them for the best colleges.

NVHS is terrible. Send your child anywhere but here. The faculty doesn't care about educating your child just passing them along to the next teacher. I wish I would have gone to any other school in the area.

As a parent I shouldn't have to be treated like garbage going into the front office. Why should be ladies in the office ask questions from parents in such a rude manor? I wish the administration would just see how the parents and students are treated. If you need to eat at your desk - There is absolutely no professionalism going into this school. I don't mind showing my id when picking up my daughter and I don't mind waiting - but please I shouldn't have to hear the people in the office talking bad about teachers. Please keep this to yourself. If it weren't for the teachers my daughter has I would think about a variance.

We have been promised for at least the last four years that we would receive a change in the coaching staff. Unfortunately we start again another year and the same coaches that have brought the moral and student attitudes down. For how many years must we continue to be at the bottom of the list for schools in football, basketball and baseball. Yes I do sports and do keep my grades up so that I can. This is my senior year and it is very frustrating when you over hear coaches, teachers and the admin. say it's the bad quality of athletes that go to NVHS. We do have many good athletes and we all want to succeed. Why should we be held back because they won't change the coaches. Just like we all feel No one cares or something would have been done

Its like any other high school. There's the nerds, jocs, preps, and stoners. There's good teachers working along side the bad ones. The experience is what you make it. A little tip about the clique thing.. make friends in the begining of the year. Put yourself out there right away so people will remember you.. and you wont fall into the "nobody" crowd.

Great school. I am a student and i enjoy it very much. The teachers actually teach you something. The people are nice, and they/ we welcome others with open arms. The new principal is very strict and inforces new rules to better the school. Yes, like everyother school it has its downfalls but overal it is an awesome place to go to school.

I was there for my freshmen year and then I moved. It's a bad school the student are mean and drugies. the teachers don't teach that much and won't help you. The school is also poor because they put all the money they get to the football team thats it. The students are so bad that there's a fight at less once a week. Then they have a smoker area they let you smoke what u want. But there are some good stuff about the school like the air force JROTC they do there best to make the school look better. All the kids who are in there JROTC work hard and are really nice. So I would say if you or your kid is going to nvhs don't unless you do like JROTC.

This has got to be the worst high school in the State of Nevada. The administrators are terrible, the policies are even worse, and their sports program leaves much to be desired. While there are a few teachers and administrators who truly care and want their students to succeed, there are those "winners" who are just there to get a paycheck. My other kids will NOT be attending NVHS and I will make sure they go elsewhere, heck, at this point Hug HS is a better option, at least I know they will have a better education than the farce they provide at NVHS.

I went there for half my 9th grade year & my parents pulled me out I was on the basketball team and in honors classes The sports aspect was great Honors where vigorous with pace & work In normal class friends said you could backtalk walk out be disruptive & still do well Drug circulation racial & social conflict is very high They have a designated smoking area which is the source of more than cigarettes My teachers on average seemed to be very good But it's like they expect you to fail They help if you seek it though The disciplinary system lacks & NVHS doesnt acknowledge any of its faults If you dont fit in you will be bullied or singled out So if you don't have a lot of nerve & confidence its really going to be an emotional experience Its up to the student to pass or fail on their own it's not that NVHS is a bad or good school its just that it offers 2 different extremes at once You can be really bad or you can be really good the happy medium isnt happy Its not like other schools if you ask around our city and you mention NVHS as your school kids and even adults know it's on the lower end of schools in the Reno/Sparks area But some how most students like the bad reputation

I am appaled at the behavior of the girls varsity basketball head coach !! Every year he seems to have a select few players that he likes to "BULLY" for the season,this year was my daugters turn. What kind of "MONSTER" Blames the loss of a game on a single player and continues to ridicule her in the locker room in front of the whole team. I have NEVER....in all my years playing and being around sports have I EVER heard of such behavior from any one on a coaching staff !!! We send our children to school to be taught and nurtured by adults that we believe in and trust,not to be BULLIED and ridiculed by them !!! This is only the tip of the iceburg on this topic.
