Does anyone know how to contact the CHESS School Board directly?
I have been working with the school's Executive Director, Theo Hines, regarding several concerns and have requested information on how to contact the Board in hopes of resolving the matter through the school's leadership.
I was informed that board contact information could not be provided and that communication would need to go through Theo first. While I was eventually provided the names of the Board members, I have not been given a way to contact them directly or information on how to submit a concern to the Board independently.

If anyone knows the appropriate process for contacting the Board or submitting a concern directly, I would appreciate the guidance.

CHESS Christian School is exactly what my family was searching for in a school! We tried homeschool, but that was lonely, and difficult to support, especially since my students span elementary school, middle school and high school. We also tried a traditional 5-day a week private Christian school, and while the school was great, I missed my kids! The flexibility that CHESS's hybrid model offers is just the right fit for us. I love that I still have influence over my children's education, but that I also have support from experienced, passionate educators and I don't have to carry the whole weight of my kids' education myself. We also love the community that CHESS offers. Not only have my kids made great friends at CHESS, so have my husband and I. If you're looking for a great school, with a warm, welcoming community, where you can still play a key role in your student's education, CHESS is the place for you!

I've always homeschooled my children. We entered CHESS as a way to supplement our schooling & build more relationships. From the first year, it was a game changer for my children. It opened an entire new world that my kids had yet to experience. Every year we are here, the connection grows deeper and deeper. It's now our school, our community, many times our church. I never thought I would trust anyone else to teach my children, but here we are.... thriving! The unique dynamic at CHESS sets kids up for success early in life; giving kids learning opportunities that is not provided in main stream schools.

I recommend CHESS Christian School for too many reasons to list. Since attending CHESS, we have seen our daughter grow academically, physically and spiritually while making so many connections with friends and families that have the same values.

Our family has been part of CHESS Christian since its second year, and we absolutely love it! Both of my sons graduated from CHESS and are thriving. The school prepares students for success through a college-style schedule that fosters independence, discipline, and learning from a biblical worldview. We also cherish the wonderful community here, which has helped my boys discover their unique gifts. I highly recommend the Career Planning class. We are truly grateful that God led us to CHESS!

This is our first year at the school and so far my kids are really loving it. The teachers are knowledgeable, very kind, and really engaged. You can tell that they really care about their students mental and spiritual learning. As a previous homeschool parent, I am loving the balance and all the family time we get while our kids are learning and making connections. Finding this school was definitely an answer to my prayers!

CHESS Christian School has been a wonderful experience for our family! The supportive and flexible environment has made it easy for our children to thrive. Ill start with the good: The teachers, for the most part, are amazing, they really care and work so hard. The teachers are THE BEST thing about chess.

The hybrid schedule is unique but dont get the idea that youll have a light load on your off days. Those days are school at home days and youll have a lot of work to do. I still enjoyed the schedule and having someone else also holding my kids accountable for their work.

Now Ill get into the not so good: administration is an issue. Not every member of admin is a problem but leadership isnt great. It really makes me sad and it affects everything - incredibly high turnover especially in preschool, licensing rules not always followed, the stability and future of the program. I genuinely hope and pray that the admin begin to see that maybe the high turnover, especially in preschool is indicative of a problem from the top. Otherwise, Im not sure of the future of the program.

My kids started chess in 2021 and we couldnt love the school anymore! The staff is wonderful. Our kids are thriving there. Its the perfect balance between the school and homeschooling. We love the community that we have become a part of! I am so thankful that this place exists!

School lacks true diversity, which is sad because God created such a beautiful and diverse world. If you want to only surround yourself with people who look, think, and act like you, then this is your place. The leadership of this school goes to great lengths to keep out those who are different and they miss the overarching theme of who Jesus is and what His lessons are about (here's a hint: Mark 12:30-31). The leadership is also deceitful in how they handle matters of importance. Lying and arrogance are not beneath them. All in all, there are much better ways to educate your children, ensuring that their character isn't harmed in the process. The leadership behaves like self-important bullies, so how can they teach children that bullying isn't right?

If someone is a bully people know and don't encourage because everyone knows each other so if one person bullies a lot of people say something to them. There isn't really any bullying that goes on though, so this doesn't really happen often.

There's some busy work but a lot of the teachers go above and beyond to make the homework informative and helpful to learning and remembering the content.

I stumbled across this school due to their curriculum choices. I'm new to the homeschool concept & greatly appreciate the communication & positive support. I am a question asking person. I have always felt comfortable asking questions as well as talking with any of the staff about my children & their gifts. They have demonstrated complete care in the positive development of my children as a whole. Their personalities, personal gifts, confidence levels as well as academic abilities have always been of the upmost importance to the teachers & support staff.
The entire staff, including volunteers, have always demonstrated easy going & kind professionalism. My family, a family of teachers, is beyond blessed by the beautiful opportunities CHESS offers for our children & their future development in who they are as incredible people!

If you would like to take a few extracurricular classes at CHESS you will do fine. They have great teachers for that. Really Great. However many core classes are tough. Since there are two core days, your child will need to be high performing, or have VERY few outside commitment outside of school. They are difficult classes and teachers do not work together, so the homework due on any one day could be more that a typical student could handle. If you have a child with learning needs, they will make a few accomidations, but there is no real support. No real plan or professional to implement that plan. Plan to explain to EVERY teacher why your child cannot do A ,B, or C. Some will understand, many will forget. And if you don't talk to every teacher, every quarter, they will deem your child who is very willing and well behaved as lazy or uncooperative. The principal is difficult. If you are thinking about CHESS. Ask if your teacher has any experience in the area that s/he is teaching. Ask if they have a degree in that area, or if they every have been certified. Ask what the turnover rate is with students and teachers. If you love that they have a Charlotte Mason philosophy, ask what living books the teacher will specifically be incorporating into the classroom. If you love that they serve different abled learners, ask them about what SPECIFIC teaching tools beside lecture will be used in each class. Do not accept the answer of "projects". Every school assigns projects. Every school does a few hands on things in the classroom now and then. Figure out what tools they will use to teach daily. Ask if the curriculum has been written to serve differently abled learners. We went to a volunteer appreciation event last year where the board spoke about the wonderful things that CHESS does. I wonder if they have ever spoken to parents or teachers. I wonder if they even know what the school is really like? The concept is great, so many parents need an option like this.
