At Bellbrook we have had problems with bullying a lot and sometimes I would find the teachers would tell the kids who usually would pay attention in that class when they were talking they would be called out a lot more then the other popular girls. The other thing with the school is that they also had a lot of weighed views like if the kid was more popular they would most likely find a way to side with them or if they were richer. In all I don’t recommend this school for kids who just got out of bullying or don’t want to be bullied by more popular kids.

I move a lot, jumping from state to state. Out of all schools I've been to, this is my favorite ever. It has everything you could want, sports, honor classes, and etc. Especially with the freedom you get and how you learn to be responsible for yourself.

Before enrolling your children at Bellbrook do a little research on the levy issues and the politics plaguing this town. It may have been an incredible school before the levy and politics divided the town but at this point I would not recommend it to any family.

The school has cut art, library, music programs, bussing etc.

The school uses a strange grading scale where about 20% of the tests and/or projects carry 80% of the weight for the grade- if your student does all the homework, quizzes, projects and gets A's on those but is a bad test taker and gets an F on the test their FINAL grade will be an F+ or D-. This is the most bizarre way of grading I have ever seen. I am not sure how this is even legal.

Other schools in the area do not grade like this. They offer out of the box assignments and room for the students to actually apply what they are learning. The way Bellbrook has their grading set up does not allow for actual learning through application. If your student learns best as a hands on learner this school is not for them.

There are a lot of great kids and teachers at Bellbrook but the division in the town is definitely trickling down to the kids. The school is dealing with some serious bullying issues because of it.

The student population is not diverse. The staff and administration are not diverse. The curriculum is not diverse.

The teachers we have worked with have been great in communicating and working our child. We are thankful for them.

BMS is doing a great job in reinforcing being accountable for actions and teaching autonomy for school work.

We were drawn to Bellbrook and picked this school due to the set up and programs it offers. This is due to good adminstration decisions. With this said, every person in the school matters especially when dealing with our children. My child should not feel intimidated by vice principal or avoid going to the office because the front staff makes him feel like he is bothering them. (I too have felt this way when I have had to go in so I validate this). Its one thing to do this to a parent but it is not an appropriate environment for staff who work with children daily to have this envrionment in a schoo. Every staff memeber needs to make students feel welcomed. School is hard enough! It takes a village.

If parent advocates it does. I am also an educator and have had to reach out to ensure things are being done per my childs 504 but there was no initial contact to tell us it was accepted by the school, no meeting, etc. If I hadn't reached out, I'm not sure my child's 504 would even be in place. The other issue I have noted is that there have been assumptions instead of reading what is specific to my child's needs. Word of advice....advocate. The teachers have been great in working with us when they know.

We recently moved here from one of the largest school districts in the country that is rated in the top 10. They are advanced on evidenced based research which indicates too much homework is not effective. We were told there would be 45 mins of homework a night. It's more like 45 mins per core class. It would be different if there were block schedueles but with 8 periods a day, this can be execssive for 11-14 year olds.

We chose this school due to the set up and programs it offers. The teachers have been wonderful. However we are also disappointed. The school is not one that is easy to integrate into if you are from outside the area. There is a definite difference in how we are treated compared to others who have been here and if we sense this as adults, I can see why my child feels this and this has been the toughest move for him thus far. As an educator myself, I have worked in some inner city schools that are rough and hard core and one thing I notice that makes them work and builds the community feeling is relationship building that goes beyond the teachers. I highy recommend BMS reflects on that and is willing to grow. The governers award is great but there is always room for improvement and schools across the country that have wonderful programs to also look at for ways to move forward.

Fantastic school. Moved into the district from out of state and have really been impressed. Every teacher I have met in this district seems happy (professionally and personally) and parents are clearly very involved.

I think this is probably one of the best districts in the area for gifted kids--they are open to acceleration in math and language arts including grade skips where needed. There are plenty of opportunities for extracurricular learning, too, including math pentathlon. They have several kids working 2 grades above in math, for example.

On the other hand they also manage to be very supportive of kids with special needs. My son's special education teacher contacts me weekly to discuss how things are going for him, what assignments are coming up, how his behavior has been, etc.

We are very happy with the district and with this school in particular.

Amazing school. I love the way the teachers and staff have always been kind and understanding for EVERY single student in this school. Most if not all of the teachers have EXCELLENT teaching methods.
