Mad River Middle School

When I went here it was horrible. Im finally moving districts, but while attending (this past year, 2025-2026) Kids threatened my life, called me slurs, and bullied me constantly. Nothing was done. The current vice principal is incompetent, and does nothing to protect your child if they are not white, straight, rich, or popular. I was targeted by two of my peers, and they would bully me, harras me, and even lied about me calling them the n-word after I came forward to him about them calling me the f-slur because I'm gay, and bullying me and my friend. He did nothing except say "Ill talk to them" which only made things worse. Do not take your child here if you want repercussionary actions taken towards bully's. Most of the teachers are great, and they are extremely kind (again, most. Some are horrible to be around). One of the counslers was extremely nice to talk to, but then I brought up needing a 504 and she immediately became rude. The second you make some of these staff members do their job, they become hostile and horrible. I have a friend in this school who was and still is struggling with health issues that effect her ability to do anything, especially go to school. When she was in the hospital trying to figure out what was happening to her, her absences were counted as "un-exused". She was in the hospital, and they didn't care. There is one newer teacher who is clearly prejudiced, and treats gay people differently from others. He prioritizes straight popular boys over " weird" or alternative kids, and straight up does not care about the gay students. My friend (straight A's yet openly gay) asked him to go into the advanced social studies class in Stebbins, and was denied, yet my other friend (C's and D's, straight) asked him to go into the class and was accepted. Again, most teachers here are great, and I did learn a lot while here. Your kid will definitely get the skills that you would expect from a middle school I guess, but it's not worth it considering all the bad that happeneds here. Your kids mental health at this school will be horrible and that's that. Dont send your child here.

When my child went here as a student, she was constantly bullied, making her slip back into depression and self harm. I went to the school many times and they didn’t do anything about the bullying even after my daughter was hospitalized many times because of it. The only time the school did I anything was after they expelled her because she self harmed in the bathroom. This school is absolutely horrible and ridiculous that they couldn’t protect my kid.

yea I was in fights all the time after school, cafeteria , recess , in the halls sometimes but rarely because people like to do those things A, when they are surrounded by people they wanna show off for or B, when they believe that you can't possibly escape and they are tired of the run around teachers being right there or a parent so they come when they only see other kids or at least few enough adults that they feel they could sucker punch the kid and get away before being seen witch happens more then any kid will ever admit.

They still allowed that paddle with the wholes when I was there, took it away from being used as a scare tactic even the following year. My sister started at mad river 2 years after me and by being there after I was and me being in trouble a lot due to misunderstandings, being picked on and having enough of it and lashing out,or me really wanting some attention other then being in trouble or well home wasn't any good for me id play a class clown from time to time and as a result my little sister she was in trouble all the time because the teachers remembering me and rather she actually did anything or not didn't matter. Me her older brother was a trouble maker( not being able to understand them most of the time so in an attempt to show what I believed was right and hoping for a tweak here and there, I showed what I knew/thought I knew and that was back talk or i was fighting with pears for who know what reason or the most common one was kids from other schools like the high school across the road . she just had the problem of her friends knowing me, and to top that off she got my old teachers. I really hope that has changed there! There is no such thing as a bad family maybe a bad kid here and there but do you really think every sister, brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, ma, pa are all going to be bad apples too... or maybe misunderstood every so often? I hope the latter now a days

They had many different teaching methods some were hard for me to get some where fun all of which were interactive, healthy, and ahead of there time which I am seeing rather severe now more then ever in the past. (I wish I could grab all the material and the teachers from when I was there and have them up here in this state for a year the kids would change this state for the better maybe not every single one but most would be capable of doing it and as bad as things have been I am sure a few would want to put them selves out there to do just that knowing and learning from the schools in Ohio Mad River Middle to be among the top of that list they are good at dealing with that turning point in a young man/women's life teaching responsibility for you're actions along the way ( very very little of that in New York from everything that I have seen. They are mostly pretty petty out here as well ) frankly I'm surprised New York isn't taken care of any better but we need more people that care and not just people stuck here and can't escape the snow. Honestly not only wishing I was younger but able to go back to school at mad river like I did when I was a kid should be enough for me to realize I loved it there no matter what I think the experience was back then it kind of sucked but I wouldn't have wanted another school to save my life

never seen anything to tell me one way or the other. Hmm well other then peer support and the big brother program, but those are the students themselves or outside organizations not really the school. but I would not be who I am today without that school I'm not perfect or a politician but I'm not a wife beater, not in prison , and not a betrayer of our country or its allies!

I just had to have mine done by the next day if I didn't do it I owned upto it (even thou we graded our own papers when our teachers went over them the next day (which was normally that case) I could have lied about rather i did it or not but what would that have gotten me. certainly not liked more lmao

I was in Fights a lot Either high schoolers coming by after school to get there Sisters/Brothers. Or from problems thru the day. after a wile I started staying after and working with the janitors Mr Kneecamp , Viccy My teachers were Mrs Degger, Mrs Molod hmmm now I can't seam to remember my homeroom teacher. Anyhow being I learned mostly from Encyclopedias and as they got updated so did what I learned transferring that into doing math work for instance the teacher would have her way and I would have mine doing it my way I got the ansers right but when I tried there way I got them wrong so I would fail at it both ways for either not doing it there way and showing the work how they want or I just couldent do there work proper like because I already learned another way and idk it was always like I thought they forgot a step or something. But if it weren't for the cleaning staff there at night I prolly woulda stayed getting into fights everyday. if it wasn't for Mrs Molod , Mrs Deggar I woulda never cought on to any of the schooling. Now being here in NY I see that Mad river Middle's 7th grade has more advanced arithmetic, Library books, Social Studies ,Geography and teaching methods then my kids are taking here at all and my oldest is a Sr here at Jamestown High School its sad. I left to be near family but I should have come back for my kids to attend school.

This is my third daughter going to school in Mad River. If you asked me before to review this school I would of had nothing but good things to say. But my youngest is special needs child and it is my opinion that they can not handle special needs children. She needs a smaller class setting and they do not have that so the way to handle it for them is she only goes 3 hours a day. She is in my opinion loosing out. It is not her fault that she can not handle a regular class setting. I do believe that the overall staff is a good quality. But they are just not equipped to handle student such as my daughter.

My daughter is currently enrolled in the mad river district and I find that they work hard to meet the needs of all of their students with a variety of options and an open forum in which I am able to directly participate. I attended the district from K-12 receiving an excellent education and look forward to see my child receive the same opportunity. Parents have ample opportunity to become involved with their child and school, they just have to say yes, makes it easy and fun!

Until Middle School my child had not issues. My child attended Mad River Schools from Kinderrgarten on. MRMS staff seem to care little about students, their success, or grades. They also lack in communication skills. I would not suggest MRMS to anyone wanting a decent education for their child.
