I absolutely love this school! I'm very pleased with the class sizes. It is a older school but very clean. Every teacher, secretary, and administrator, make Northwood a wonderful, safe place for your child to get an education.

Homework is given, but the appropriate amount. I feel that the homework is always pertinent to what they are learning.

Teachers work hard so that all students are successful. I have two students in the school one is a high achiever, and the other has to work really hard, and gets really good grades because of all of the teachers time and effort.

Northwood is a great school! In response to the last post, challenges are great; but one shouldn't forget that you can overdo it. Are children losing the ability to cope with boredom? Children nowadays have more toys to distract them than ever before toys that are more sophisticated. This suggests they are bored because they are over- rather than under-stimulated. Where has it left them? Unable to hold their own attention, I suspect. The more stimulation and choice children have been given, the less patient they have become, and the less capable of concentration. Being bored is a crucial part of childhood, because bored children are forced to daydream, to stand and stare, to use their imaginations. If your child is complaining of being bored, the kindest thing you can do is leave him or her alone in a room with a large cardboard box. It will soon turn into a spaceship.

Sadly, after months of trying to work with the teacher and principal we had to pull my son and do homeschooling. He was not challenged in the least. And when we asked for a challenge we were told- he is above level-- what more do you want? It was my fault that he had been given so many experiences. Very little parental involvement. Teachers seemed downtrodden.

Love this neighborhood and this school! Principal Dr. Best is the best! My daughter loves Ms. Ferguson as her second grade teacher, always upbeat with a smile on her face. You could tell the kids really love her.
