If I could give this school 0 stars, I would. The principal picks favorites and doesn't hear both sides of any situation. He can't handle any type of conflict and his decision making skills are non-existent. Don't take your kids here if you can help it.

The biggest problem I have with this school is the bullying issue and no homework. My child never seems to have homework, projects etc. Also , my child has been bullied by one kid for about 3 years and it seems like the child keeps coming back to school… to many chances given not enough consequences for chronic bullying.

My three children transferred to Monticello a few years ago and we have had an awesome experience. The teachers have supported my individual kids' learning needs and all 3 children are performing well on local, state and national performance standards. In addition, many clubs and extra opportunities for involvement have been offered. Finally, the entire staff has been friendly and welcoming.

I have observed bullying towards the children concerning one particular teacher. The kids are frightened of this attractive female teacher, who is a classroom teacher who teaches English. Other parents have felt that the teacher has an uncontrollable temper. She appears to condemn bullying, but is in fact a well known bully. I agree that these sort of teachers should be removed and replaced with more caring teachers, who will be able to make the children feel more secure and happy when they are in school. The principal demonstrates unprofessionalism, and I understand makes inappropriate remarks in informal get togethers with his staff. He can portray himself as superior to others. Personally, I feel the headmaster should be replaced with one who is mature, and has the best, fair interests of all parties. I think restaffing would be appropriate and would increase parent involvement.

Monticello and the school district needs to review the policy of low funds for lunches especially for the lower grade students; expecting a first grade student to remember after an her afternoon classes and possible DayCare to inform the parents of this situation is not realistic by the Nutrition Department; and then to tell the apologitic child to not be sorry again is being disrespectful. When I contacted them after feeding my granddaughter cheese and crackers without anything to drink about this the head of the dept. stated that the parent can call and ask for the child's balance at anytime. When speaking to the principal he even believed that a note was sent to the parents which the dept. head said they have never done. I suggested a standard form being given to the child and allow them to go back to the room and place that in the book bag and since they already have a report that tells them individuals that owe them money for lunches, modify the report and state in the form that on a certain date the child was low on funds, if they sent money after this date to disregard just like a physician's office stmt - the reception to both were negative. Staff needs an attitude change.

I am a Monticello parent. My daughter comes home everyday with something new she has learned. There is great structure and involvement with all of the children. All of the teachers are caring and seem to strive for the best in every child. I wouldn't have it any other way for my child's education!

This school definitely needs to be restaffed. As one other parent has commented, the teachers are too abrasive towards the children and seem as if they're only working there because that's the only choice they have at this time in their life. I actually will be moving here in the near future to get my children into a more welcoming and caring school system for their support.
