This school district is amazing from the elementary schools right up to the high school. I love that the students are split up into wings to make the large school feel more intimate and less intimidating. Don't let the size of the school scare you, it truly doesn't feel as big as it is and the size opens up a ton of opportunity for specialized classes and clubs. There wasn't any where near this kind of opportunity at the small school where I went. The teachers are top notch, the administration is amazing, I have nothing bad to say at all!

Disabled and mentally ill students aren't properly supported.
Leadership is ridiculous and the principles are more concerned with their image than students safety.
Teachers are very good with 'bad' ones being few and far between.
The arts programs are fantastic.

No bullying policy, lots of kids get bullied and the school doesn't care. Math is very behind at this school, not preparing students for college-level math.

This school could be great under the right leadership and supervision. Teachers are amazing! My daughter loves her classroom environments, classmates, orchestra class and the curriculum. The school building very well upkept and has an amazing auditorium, football field, event center and even a fitness center for Kettering Residents!
Now for the bad. All of my described above would be 5 stars without the following. School programs should be enjoyable and stress relieving for students, however, the marching band program seems to be ran by tyrants. The band/color guard program have multiple toxic coaches and seems to run it as absolute power. Your concerns are brushed off if you approach the head coaches, and more than likely the blame will be pushed back onto the student's lack of whatever they pull out of their hat. It seems that the issue is also brushed off when the issue is brought up to higher school leadership.
Another big issue is the practice. I realize that when I was in High School my football practices were intense. Band should be no different. But the line that is drawn is when you drill your team for over 12 hours in the heat, and do not provide water or proper breaks for students. When I brought this up to the band director, he stated they got plenty of time. I responded with, "I was in the parking lot when you gave them a 50 second water break", to which he shrugged it off. Along the same lines, drilling your team for hours prior to competitions is just absurd. They are at it for over 8 hours and still expected to perform and compete for first place?
The band and color guard program also requires thousands of dollars to supplement the program, yes, over a thousand and more. The program also forces full time working parents to volunteer or else pay a penalty more if they failed to meet a minimum amount of volunteer event hours.
Lastly, the final reason is that I do not feel my daughter, as a minority, is getting a fair shake with any of the programs that she is dedicated to because of either her race or because she did not grow up in Kettering. All of her teachers are amazing with her and give us great feedback on her classroom work. When it comes to the band/color guard it becomes a totally different story. Those programs have their favorites and pick and choose who to recognize and often leave out minority groups.

During this spring's shutdown the school district had a very poor experience with online education. That was understandable, given how little we knew about Covid. Over the summer, the school sent out information telling us how in person schooling was recommended by the CDC and AAP. They showed every indication of not repeating this spring's disaster. They pretended to listen to parents, but that turned out to be for show. Without warning, they changed their minds and chose to repeat this spring failure. Now they have that they have no choice since parents are talking about vouchers and tax revenues are being threatened, they are letting students return. They care about athletics more than academics because they still played sports.
Their second try at online schooling was worse. Now they are showing students grades don't matter by excusing poor grades by athletes. The school board voted in a work session to avoid community input. They don't care about academics. The school board does whatever they feel is legally safest, and when they forced the last superintendent to resign, all they talked about was risk and liability.

In my opinion. I thought FHS would be a good school and boy was I wrong. I wouldnt recommend this school to ANYONE. They have the worst staff and teachers. It was my worst nightmare, and I would never wish that school on anyone.

In my opinion, The teachers DO NOT care. They are there to get payed and nothing more. They will not help with homework problems. They hold you over lunch (meaning you dont eat lunch) when they dont finish their lesson plans. They also allow vaping because they simply dont care.

In my opinion, having kids and teachers cuss each other out In class doesnt teach respect. Quite the opposite. Kids vape, fight in the halls, bully others... and fairmont gives them a slap on the wrist and act like nothing happened. They dont want their official reports to look bad.

In my opinion, Leadership? Thats a joke at this school. Went to the principles to talk to them about students vaping in class and got laughed at... thats why their drug classes are backed up for 4 months. The teachers dont discipline. They dont care.

In my opinion, I have personal experience witnessing and going though bullying at this school. Im gonna start my saying the teachers, principals and resource officers are a joke. The school officer doesnt return phone calls. I had 4 boys threatening me while at school and the school refused to help until a lawyer was hired (in which they had no option but to help) I have witnessed HORROR storys from others who went to FHS. This school has noooo care in the world when students get bullied. Its soo sad they dont care and help others when they desperately need help from the bullys.

Most of the teachers could careless about your student. Kids seem to be behind in math compared to other schools. Teachers don't seem like they want to help. They get mad when you ask questions.

I attended Fairmont all 4 years of high school and I was just average popular all throughout and got good grades all throughout. All my teachers I can honestly say had good intentions and were truly good teachers when it came down to it. Everyone there strives to make you succeed and it holds all the opportunities in the world. I don't have a single complaint. I wish I could go back and do another 4 years, honestly.

I really enjoyed Fairmont. I went all 4 years and took advantage of the many activities they had to offer.
I felt that even though everyone had there groups everyone was acceptable of everyone else.
They have a awesome career tech center. I was in the marketing class and received college credit and real work expereince before i even graduated.
The teachers were awesome i can honestly say 99% of them were great.
I would highly recommend Kettering Fairmont.

I think alot of them are very effective. i learned alot in their classes and thought it prepared me alot. However their were a few classes/ teachers i spliped by wondering did i even learn anything.

This is a tricky question. Some classes excessive to the point that it just seemed like busy work then their were others that gave just the right amount. and a few that prob didnt give enough. all depends on the class/teacher
