Graduated from this school and continued on to college where I found that I was far more prepared then any of my peers.

Pros:
- Excellent academics. The best public school for academics in Rhode Island and probably top 3 even with private schools in the mix. We always send around 30-40 people per grade to top 25 ranked universities and liberal arts colleges. Almost everyone graduates and goes to college, and dropouts or people who don't go to at least community college are rare enough that everyone knows about it and talks about it (part of a con too, people tend to be very nosy).

- Almost all teachers I've had are amazing, strive to make class fun, and really care about the students.

- Fairly good athletics. All teams are D1 and perform well enough to make some noise in the playoffs, but we don't get a whole lot of championships. Maybe 1 per season (fall, winter, spring).

- Guidance office is fantastic, and will help students prepare for life after high school and applying to college as early as 10th grade. Counselors are really on top of things and will never forget to follow up with you if they promised to get something done for you, like change a course or send a transcript.

- The student body tends to be nice in general. I've seen bullying but have not experienced it. From what I can see, if you're a socialite and want to associate with a lot of friends and party hard, you'll fit right in with the popular crowd. If you just want to be a normal student with a close group of friends, you'll also fit right in. Even if you're not exactly the most social person, there really aren't any traditional "bullies" here at all. Unless you act really annoying or otherwise stand out in a negative light, people will generally ignore you and not give you any trouble.

- Extracurriculars here are amazing. A HUGE selection with large memberships and active communities.

Cons:

- Cafeteria food isn't great

- There's a highly competitive atmosphere. The majority of students, even the socialites and party chasers, are on edge about college. What college you go to is a really big deal. Everyone will know and gossip about it and you’re expected to share and congratulate what colleges your friends are going to on social media. If you aren’t a fan of competition or aren’t planning to go to college, then the college-centric atmosphere will feel very cutthroat to you.

I agree, the bullying is ignored. Not suprisingly, the link to the state bullying policy on the school website doesn't work. I transferred my chiild out after completing almost 11 years in the Barrington school system; she could no longer tolerate the bullying and was unable to thrive in class. The school was of NO help and had no methods of reducing bullying.

We have two children in the school system. Our eldest daughter is a student at the high school, and so far we have been extremely happy with her experiences there. She works hard, enjoys school, has a great group of friends, and she likes to participate in many of the after-school activities they offer. Barrington has many high-achieving students. As a result, the learning environment can be a bit competitive and challenging,. Ultimately, however, it benefits students because the standards are high. Overall, we're very happy with the schools here.

My child was extremely unhappy with this school. The bullying is horrible, and the teachers are no help.
