I am a student of this school, and I have been attending since kindergarten. I am in 8th grade. Since the COVID pandemic, the school's academic performance has declined. I used to have good grades, but since the new principal was hired, the school environment has become terrible and depressing. She implemented stricter rules, including a dress code that bans any logos on clothing, which many students find unnecessarily restrictive. claiming that if we do and they have visitors they will think we are proud of getting into this school i know a lot of people that dislike this school including teachers and i am thankful this is my last year at this school While the school invests in its physical appearance, many feel that the focus should be on improving the educational experience, as the current environment feels unwelcoming. If you are thinking about sending your kids here, I recommend you do not, and it is a terrible decision

My daughter went to kindergarten here and sustained 3 seperate head injuries on 3 separate occasions also a busted lip and a chipped tooth all from the same classmate,I went in to talk to the principal about it multiple times and nothing was done they kept saying my daughter wasn't getting bullied and it was all a big accident only after the 3rd head injury did they even so much as separate them in the class room but the girl still got close to my daughter at recess and lunch my daughter was crying every morning saying she didn't wanna go to school cuz of the situation and once and for all I pulled her out of the school and called the police on the vice principal for negligence as she continuously antagonized me laughing in my face about my daughters head injuries which may have caused her permanent brain damage.

I wrote the April 20, 2021 review and my opinion of the school has changed drastically since then. Last year ended well, but this Fall has been a deeply mediocre experience at best.

I noted in my previous review that homework and bullying were weak spots. This continues to be the case, but much more so. There has been no homework given out by any teachers. I can count on one hand the number of assignments my child has brought home this year. While I understand that teachers do not want to overly burden more vulnerable students, the opposite problem is that this creates an afternoon and evening vacuum that exacerbates the other problem, unhealthy social interactions. The school cannot control what happen out of school, online, but with just two classes per grade, they can easily monitor and respond to bad situations in school, but have shown zero interest in doing so. Yes, Covid has made things harder, but at this point we need to have figured out a set of responses.

As before, some teachers are great and enthusiastic, but now there seem to be a couple who are mailing it in. The charter school formula works when families who are fortunate enough to have options for their kids choose to put their kids in schools like Hope. If those families are alienated and made to feel that the school does not want to meet their needs, then those families will go elsewhere and the school's academic level will fall. We have already seen this with a couple of my child's friends enrolling elsewhere and their families reporting it to be a much better experience.

Other than covid protocol announcements, I have no idea what the school leadership is thinking about. The parents' association is useless, controlled by a small group more interested in their own access than in improving the school for all. Perhaps it is the continuing demoralization of the pandemic, but there seems to be a real lack of purpose and mission, or even a proactive attitude. We really wanted our charter school experience to continue but the dropoff in attention this year to the students' intellectual and emotional development is really worrisome.

Absolute garbage schoool. They put kids on the wrong bus and don’t apologize for it. They have petty antics. Make up their own rules and their staff is rude ! Your kids are better off in public school trust me!

The Hope Academy is a poorly run and poorly conceived school. Their administration turnover rate is shocking; they are on their sixth head of school going into their sixth year as a school. This is on top of a poor delegation of duties that leaves each person spread tragically thin and a base of teachers that often has never taught in a classroom before. Their facilities are attractive, but it really is just lipstick on a pig.

Also, beware of the PTA. The people involved are power hungry and cut throat, more interested in the dominance of their clique than in creating a benefit for the students.
