South Carolina Connections Academy is great, and the teachers, staff, etc are so nice and welcoming. Although I do have to say, if a student skips live lessons they should honestly do something like grades getting lower, because live lessons are what teaches you, Anyway the school is great, staff is, teachers are, and I definitely recommend this school. Also, in the beginning when you start, they explain everything to do, and what icons do.

For my experience as a student of SCCA, I feel this establishment shouldnt be called a school more like an online child labor website. We never get breaks, dont even get me started on the assignments I thought online school would be somewhat easier or less time consuming but I was wrong on both, teachers are also very rude. I will not say her name but one teacher has called my parent multiple times for me not participating in class just because I dont want to show my face on screen. She has also texted me in the live lesson chat to please turn my camera on (what if Im using the bathroom, eating, or had to get up from my desk) I do not like showing my face on screen and that is also very wrong for forcing students to show their cameras. I looked this up and results were
Legal & Privacy Issues: Demanding cameras be on can be considered too intrusive, as it allows instructors and other students to see into a students private home, causing potential embarrassment or revealing socioeconomic disparities.
Exceptions & Equity: Many districts that initially required cameras now allow exceptions for students with privacy, mental health, or technology issues (e.g., poor internet) So, maybe my internets bad, maybe Im uncomfortable, is SCCA going to pay for my WiFi to upgrade or for counseling? I do not think so. I have done SCCA before when I was younger 4 years ago and I have to say it is NOT what it used to be. Teachers werent so rude and actually cared about you, you actually got breaks, you didnt have a weeks worth of work in a day, and just the program is confusing.

We moved mid semester fall 2026 with 2 middle school students, one with a 504. The initial onboarding had some hiccups but after reaching out to SCCA directly, we were able to get help to complete the process. Since starting, my kids have been doing well. Teachers and staff have been accessible and helpful. While there is a learning curve on doing all virtual, it has been generally great so far. The kids do get a chance to correct tests, but that is because the teachers want them to learn how to do the work (in math for example) and not just give them test anxiety and a bad grade.

This school doesn't understand how to cater to children, my daughter is in 3rd grade and the way everything is worded is for someone in highschool getting ready for college there is no support and the teachers don't care at all. Many parents don't have the time available to be able to sit with there kids and try to simplify every little thing to their kids because we work. Make the courses for children instead of adults quit trying to to set kids up for failure

We tried to enroll our daughter after a public school incident that left one of my daughters with scars. They told me "Your applications were denied because you withdrew your kids on 8/12." So I was supposed to leave my kid in an unsafe environment to be enrolled in your school. Naw, find somewhere else. If that is their thinking they want the bodies in chairs or looking at screens I should say. Even the CS didn't understand. You know things are bad when the rep doesn't understand their reasoning.

I absolutely wouldnt recommend even trying to apply to this school. Any documents I tried to submit were rejected. I have lived in SC for 12 days and they wouldnt accept my lease agreement or my utility verification. I didnt have a bill yet because it had only been 12 days and they still wouldnt accept the verification that utilities were going to be supplied to my address. Its really been a nightmare dealing with this school.

I'm gonna be so honest. This school is good but its also so trash sometimes. First of all, I requested a regrade on an assignment in animation class and its been almost 3 weeks, AND MY TEACHER STILL HASN'T RESPONDED TO IT. Second mathematics is just a circus. Intermediate algebra is terrible. Barely teach anything useful and literally don't even cover half of the important details. As a student here, I don't recommend this school unless you can do all these assignments without the classes.

There is rampant cheating at this school. Teacher involvement is minimal, curriculum is tiresome and there is tons of work expected of kids. They hop from subject to subject on a daily basis- in math for example theyd never spend more than a day on say, finding the mean in statistics.
The testing is a joke, the kids can do over pretty much anything. Theres no opportunity to dig deeper into any subject.

There are live lessons that can have upward of 125 kids in them.
These lessons arent even required in most cases. Other than that all thats required of the teachers is that one of them communicates directly with a kid,or parent every two weeks.

I was hoping for more interesting live lessons, but everything my daughter was required to watch was boring and dry. Nothing fun, even science. She was having a lot of trouble in math and Id been writing her teacher for months- the teachers solution was to drop lessons from my daughters planner. How can this method be conducive to grasping the info? Were moving on

This school will lock down lessons instead of skipping one and going on as to cause student getting too far behind so they kick them out and make it hard to transfer to any other school! There is outrageous amount of work and reading for student and parent! Worse school ever!

School overloads you with work, teachers dont communicate or care about your learning. Made my child miserable, I dont recommend this school. School gives you WAY too much work but doesnt tell you how to do it and then locks assignments if you get behind. Not great for children with disabilities either.

If you can get someone on the phone, they are not interested in assisting you. The only form of communication is through their portal, in which they respond with templates verses addressing your actual questions. For someone that is hoping to keep their child in the education system that is experiencing a health hardship, they have no compassion and will not assist in any way.

My child had unique needs that were thoughtfully addressed by the staff/faculty and teachers. As long as supported and motivated in all settings to work hard, the challenging academic curriculum leads to success in learning.
We have been welcomed by parents and staff alike, and its so much safer than sending my kiddo to a public or private school where they would become just another statisticat SCCA, they really listen and address the learning needs of the students.
Highly recommend!

The platform isn't user friendly and it takes a month of stress and aggravation to become proficient with it. The teachers don't understand why folks have a difficult time using the program and aren't especially helpful. Lessons are scattered between Pearson formatted lessons and teacher derived lessons on various websites. Many of the lessons need to be revamped and the questions on tests/quizzes and quick checks are ambiguous.
My elementary child was removed from the school, with one month left, because we couldn't make it back to town to take state tests at a conference center. Don't be fooled, you can do the work where ever you want, but there's still mandatory in person attendance. The administrators of the elementary school are only concerned with their appearance with the state board of education and not the students needs or the needs of families.

This school is an amazing School , the teachers love to teach and really care about the students and it shows in everything they do .They're there for any help a student needs and they also help them achieve their goals. This is a school every parent should have, a five star school.

We were with SC Connections Academy for seven years. In those years, my student had wonderful teachers and excelled with the academic flexibility. She was able to follow an academic path that best fit her needs and goals. With the flexibility of working hours, she was able to have life adventures not otherwise possible. The only academic issue we had during this time was a lack of the availability, even at the national level, of honors and AP level science classes.

We chose Connections as an alternative to traditional homeschooling. Traditional school was causing my daughter a lot of stress and she was also bored. She is advanced academically but has ADHD and possibly PDD. We have not regretted switching! The teachers are amazing! I can feel comfident teaching my daughter at home knowing the curriculum is so,I'd and I have teachers to back me up.

Glad we are finished with Connections Academy. Graduating was a nightmare. The guidance department needs some guidance. My daughter's college advisor had to tell them how to complete her transcript. Advice to parents of seniors: Stay on top of the counselors and try to speak to the same person each time because each will tell you something different and it most likely will be incorrect.

My daughter graduated from SC Connections academy in 2016. She attended for 3 years in order to dance with a professional ballet company in the morning and early afternoons. Overall, this was a great school. Most of the teachers were very quick to respond to emails and to grade work. She was unable to attend live lessons but the teachers would post them for her to view later. The contact requirement was easily handled by her calling one of her teachers every couple of weeks. She was never marked truant for getting behind in her work. The teachers were very understanding of her schedule and they knew she would catch up over Christmas break etc. She was always proactive in emailing her teachers to let them know when she had a particularly busy week such as the week of Nutcracker performances and they were always understanding and helpful. If you get too far behind, you will get a temporary zero for assignments, but they will change the grade as soon as you turn it in. She took several AP courses. The first year we had to find a local brick and mortar school to take the test but there was no problem with that. Last year, she took the test at the Connections Academy headquarters, so they did provide the space for testing. The only negatives were that there were a few teachers who were slack about holding live lessons, grading assignments and returning emails but I would say that was true of only 2 or 3 teachers out of the approximately 20 she had. She also experienced a few times when the teacher left in the middle of the course and had to be replaced. However, my children who went to traditional school experienced the same sort of problems. Any school will have its share of less effective teachers so I don't think this is unique to Connections Academy. She received great scholarships to college so I feel she was very well prepared by Connections Academy.

As a student of Connections Academy for the last 5 years, I can easily say that I my feelings for this school are strictly hateful. For my parents, this school is convenient considering the fact that they can just leave me home all day and don't have to handle the incredibly difficult task of driving me to the school that is 5 minutes away from my house. For me, this school has deprived me of many important things that a teenager is supposed to experience, for example: a teacher that takes less than 2 weeks, at the least, to reply to an important question. That's another dreadful thing about this school. To the teachers, I am an inconvenience. They don't care about their students. Especially their older students. Yes, I understand that older students are supposed to handle themselves better than elementary students, but that does not mean that we should be ignored and forgotten. That does not excuse the fact that my teachers decline my call or ,when they do rarely answer, say something along the lines of "let me call you back in 5 minutes" and then proceed to email me a month later. This is not okay behavior for a teacher. Another thing, there is a mandatory class in this school called 'Skills for Success'. This class involves a website that you enter that will make you answer a few questions, that part is fine. It's school, I expect this. What is not fine is the fact that this program does not work. When I finish the test, it does not go through and then gives me an F for incompletion. This ends up going onto my grades and brings me-easily- down to a C. These are only a few of the problems with connections academy. So just please be aware of this before enrolling you child into this school and then refusing to let them out for 5 years, just because it's convenient for you.

This is our 7th year with SCCA .Our oldest child has graduated, and our youngest graduates this year. The first six years went by rather smoothly; however, weve encountered too many difficulties this school year. The homeroom teacher is looking for ways to mark students truant. One contact every two weeks is required. Contact requirements include contact with a teacher by phone call or live lesson; webmails dont count. Not all classes have live lessons. Furthermore, live lessons are useless if your child is ahead in daily lessons. Failure to meet this requirement will result in truancy. 9-12th graders are required to turn in 6 assignments per day aka hours. One hour per assignment; regardless if its an essay or 5 page research paper. If your child falls behind in school, your child will be marked as truant. It doesnt matter if your child was working on school work. We personally experienced this. The homeroom teacher only asked if my child was sick. She would not listen to me. If the teacher had not taken over a week to reply, my daughter could have turned her essays in. She would have never been marked truant. This teacher teaches several grades and has too many students to respond according to the school policy which states that they have 1 business day to respond to webmails and 5 business days to grade work. However, it takes more than a week for this teacher to reply to your webmail and more than 3 weeks for her to grade your work. Failure to mark attendance hours may result in truancy. State testing is required. Failure to show results in being withdrawn from the school. At the last state testing, teachers were withdrawing students without contracting the students. Books are not available in all core classes. My child was accused of cheating. The teacher did not contact my husband nor I. Check My Work is required and the teacher still had no proof. She said she thought my daughter cheated, but couldnt prove it. As a result, my daughter now had an academic dishonesty on her school record. Other teachers and one of the assistant principals started treating my daughter differently and some were quite rude. Books are not available in all core classes. Online textbooks are available yet very difficult to navigate. SCCA doesnt have AP, SAT, nor ACT test sites available. You will have to work with your local school district to find a test site.

The Teacher of the Year is one of the few teachers that are outstanding. Like brick and mortar schools, you have your good and bad teachers. Although, we only encountered a few good teachers.

SCCA students cover all material in the textbooks. Local schools cover half of the material in the textbooks. Working on the weekends, during Christmas break, Spring break, and other holidays is normal just to stay caught up.

My daughter has heard a teacher in a live lesson say how the teacher favors students over other students, esp. those who attend live lessons. While the teachers are being quite honest, this is not a fair policy.

We were very happy to find that the enrollment process took just a few short weeks and within days of schooling beginning we were getting a call to set up our IEP intake meeting. Very impressed with how quickly things were handled administratively to ensure a successful school year for our high school child. Our Son is a junior enrolled in AP Biology and all Honors classes, we were very impressed by the courses offered. The quality of education is by far more than what we received at our local B&M last semester.

Connections Academy has been an answer to prayer. We have the ability to work with our children and shape their learning experience. The pace is safe and the teachers are eager to help. You can actually call them and talk and once in a while we get to do face to face. That's precious.

For years we were a homeschooling family, and now with SCCA, we're a family that schools at home. What that means is that I'm relieved of the responsibility of determining & purchasing the curriculum & preparing the lessons for my middle & high school students. It's wonderful to oversee now and have them accountable to their teachers - teachers we really love and who go out of their way to be accessible for anything that may come up. The curriculum is challenging but not overwhelming. The portfolio projects are in-depth without being too burdensome to complete. The Live Lesson time is invaluable and pulls it all together. We enjoy the optional activities offered & the college visits have been great. The flexibility allows us to continue volunteer activities and hobbies. I like that they are home where they can really focus on school without a lot of the distractions of the brick and mortar classroom. We can discuss subjects/topics/questions as they come up and take a few minutes to do further research right then, while it's fresh, As a family used to doing things our own way and not caring much for the traditional school model, this is a 'best of both worlds' approach for us.

We chose CA for our daughter so we could be more involved in her learning. As a learning coach, I LOVE the flexibility! We can do our daily lessons, and even get ahead by doing the ones scheduled for the next day. Or if she is having a "bad day" we complete her daily classes the following day..As long as it is complete within the week the options are there for our daughter. We also love knowing that she is safe at home away with us learning and not dealing some of the other things we personally about in the bricks and mortar building in her school district. This is new to us this year and we are loving Connections Academy!

This is our 5th year with South Carolina Connections Academy. My daughter was in the 6th grade when we started SC Connections Academy. At first, we did not utilize the teachers and quickly became overwhelmed. I finally called our math teacher almost in tears. She explained that my job was Learning Coach and she was the teacher. Now we automatically call when we do not understand something or have a problem. Our teachers are always telling the students if they do not understand any part of the lesson, stop what they are doing and call or email them. Even if that means letting the lesson go overdue one day. If you feel your student is not challenged - you can talk with the school and teacher. If you feel your student is overwhelmed - you can talk with the school and teachers. I have seen students who have be bumped a bit and some that have been bumped down (still in the same grade - just a change level). The main thing is communication. All our teachers at South Carolina Connections Academy have been wonderful.

We have been with this school for about 4 years now. And it just hasn't worked for us. The teachers are 50/50. The ones that are great, are amazing. Hands down best in the state. The other 50 percent of the bad teachers...are awful. As in unbearable to work with. Some of them try to teach at HS levels and expectations for new coming Middle Schoolers. In Elm. it was a lot better in regards to that. There is not a lot of instructions. I was hoping there would be more, esp if your student is ahead. Then they suffer on live lessons. They have removed physical books out of some core subjects this year without even telling us in advance. And the principals aren't helpful with problems. They are also hard to reach. We are very disappointed and hopefully getting out of here by the end of this year if not sooner. Sad because this school had a lot of potential.

Enrolling my daughter to Connections Academy is the best decision I have made as a parent. This school is able to provide more one-on-one time between the student and teacher. My daughter has a much closer relationship with her teachers at Connections compared to that of our local public school. The schedule is very flexible which leaves time for family, social activities, and school field trips. My daughter actually has more time for socialization since she is not overloaded with homework. Students are free to work on their school assignments day, night, or weekends. This is truly the perfect situation for my family.

While this school is a great alternative, it does not work for all students. Students who have low motivation and need direct support from teachers... will struggle. We did it for two years, and for my child, it was very frustrating. Students with special needs all need consistency. We did not experience that.

SC Connections Academy offers a safe learning experience for children. The curriculum was more advanced than the public schools and I rest easy knowing my children are safe in our home. They offer field trips and other socialization activities for the kids too.

We have been with SCCA since the very beginning. Our experience has been more than incredible. The teachers and staff are always there when we need them. The curriculum is fantastic!! It is such a blessing to be a part of my child's education without the worries of whether or not she is meeting the state requirements. Our teachers take the worry away. I wish all households could have SCCA as an option.

This school has been such a positive example of how school should be for my son. We moved from a traditional brick and mortar school. My son seemed to be getting lost in the mix. Our family has just began our 2nd year with SCCA. I have a child in kindergarten, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with the teachers and staff. The quality of the curriculum is fantastic and keeps my children engaged. The teachers go above and beyond what we have experienced in a traditional school setting. The flexibility and the ability to play such a integral role in our children's education is priceless. SCCA has exceeded our expectations and we could not be more pleased with the quality of education our children are receiving. I have found that my children thrive in the virtual school setting.

SC Connections Academy is so great. This is our first year. My son has some medical issues where it would be hard for him to be at school everyday. But with SC Connections Academy if he has to be in the hospital I can take my laptop and his books with us and he can still do school and not fell behind.

My school is... S.C.Connections Academy. My daughter loves Virtual School. She struggled going regular public school but connections helps her get the resources she needs to learn where her old school didn't. The teachers have been great and there if we have a question or problem. The choices of extra curricular activities and great also.

Connections Academy is a free online public school. My son is in eighth grade, and this is his second year at Connections Academy. My son was at a "brick and mortar" private Montessori school for first through sixth grade (which we loved), and Connections Academy has some of the same characteristics as the Montessori school. My son can work at his own pace, and make his own choices as to what order he works on specific subjects, without having to sit still in a classroom listening to a teacher ramble. Also, much like homeschooling, we have more freedom; we can travel, and he can still do his schoolwork, as long as we have access to the internet. The only downside that I've noticed is that my son is on the computer much more during the day than I had expected. This year, he only has two text books that are hard copies, that he can hold in his hand and read. This doesn't fare well for his neck, back, eyes and hands. Otherwise, it's an excellent alternative to a "brick and mortar" public school.

This is our third year with being at Connections Academy my 2 sons love this school. Our family has tried brick and mortar schools, I have also tried homeschooling. Connections Academy is by for my favorite for my children. They offer a fun and challenging work which gives your children the best education you can imagine. All the people have spoken with go out of their way to help you and teachers are always just a phone call or email away. I highly recommend this school.

I would recommend Connections Academy to anyone who will take time to lend an ear. If you want the best for your child, If you are looking for a hands on approach to their learning, If you like the idea of homeschooling but are afraid you will not be successful- Connections Academy is the school for you. This school offers the detail and material that a private school would, but it is completely free. There really is no comparison. My kids are learning so much and I get to be right here with them to help ensure their success.

Connections Academy is a perfect educational option for parents who want to be involved in the learning process of their children, but don't want to worry about choosing curriculum. Everything about the school has been wonderful and surpassed our expectations. Great curriculum, fantastic teachers, wonderful elective classes and many to choose, and the support system that is in place is stellar! My school is Connections Academy. We love this school. All the comforts of home and safety of home with out bullies or bad things inappropriately happening to your children. My child can get the best education with out all the hassles of bullies and tormentors. Actual one on one . The teachers are highly trained and very knowledgable to their students . They care. They help their students who need extra help and stay with them until they understand. We love SCCA because you have the flexibility you need for everyone in the family. It's as flexible as a traditional homeschool, yet you have the help and support of a certified teacher there to help at all times, without feeling the pressure of someone breathing down your neck to get things done. The student can work at a pace that's right for them whether it be at a faster more advanced rate or a slower pace. The teachers seem to be great with working with you and so far have been very understanding of individual needs. So far we love it and would recommend CA to anyone.

I love this school! With so many problems in the local middle school in my child's area I sought out alternatives to brick and mortar public education. SC Connections Academy was the answer. My child loves it as well. The education was above and beyond what she received in her previous school and she could focus on her school work without distractions which was also a problem in her previous school. I would recommend Connections to anyone.

I am so glad we chose SC Connections Academy for our child's education. It was a bit of a struggle the first year because of the transition to a virtual school, but we believe she is prepared to do whatever she wants because of the excellent education she received. They taught her how to think, not how to pass tests. She is much more confident in her abilities and feels like her teachers were interested in her because they required her to do her best. At the local public school, she didn't really get the attention she needed. Since she was a well behaved student, they just passed her along as a reward. SCCA made her work for her grades and she feels better about herself because of it. If your are currently unhappy with your child's school, school district, or education, give Connections Academy a try. This is your kid's shot at the best possible public education, make sure it's a good one!

This school has been wonderful for my son! He has a chronic illness and is unable to attend "regular" school. Connections allows him to do his work at his own pace. Some days, he is unable to attend but can do his work when he is feeling better. His teachers are wonderful! The site is easy to use. My son is learning more than I could have imagined!

This school has totally changed my daughters life. She is happier, more active, and has less anxiety. This has been our first year with SCCA and we will be enrolling our youngest this coming year. The teachers have been wonderfully understanding. The curriculum is up to my standards and the children can work at their own pace. The flexability has done wonders for our family. I would recommend this program if you want more involvement in your childs education. You WILL be involved. You WILL be a learning coach. NOT a teacher but a helper of your student. The teachers teach and we support. It does take a bit of effort on the parents part. You cannot be uninvolved and expect results.

This is by FAR the best decision I have ever made for my kids. They were getting left behind in our local schools and I felt helpless until I heard about connections academy. The teachers are AWESOME and even gave my kids one on one time when needed. We got to work at their pace. They love it! They don't feel as pressured as they did at the local schools to rush through their work. I LOVE SCCA!!!

As with any public school, SCCA definitely has it's flaws, but for our family, the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. There is no way I would personally be able to do traditional "homeschool" as a single mom who has to work outside of the home, but this is definitely the next best thing - in many ways even better. This is our 3rd year. My 9th grader is on target to graduate after summer school of her 10th grade year in order to pursue her dreams. My middle schooler who struggles with anxiety and adhd has flourished in the home learning environment, and the support of the teachers at SCCA has been phenomenal. Highly reccomend for families who want to school at home.

This system was not very good, I like K-12 much better. The teacher's never returned my calls. My parents had to hire a private tutor. There are much better schools than scca. I am so glad we switched schools.

I would highly recommend this school! We are going on our third year with SC Connections Academy and are thrilled. The curriculum is outstanding, challenging and adaptable. The teachers, principal and staff are all fabulous! I love the fact that my kids are able to move at their own pace, ensuring that they learn the most!! My daughter was in 2nd grade but in 3rd grade math. You can focus more time on what they need help in, and push faster through the things they already know. It's awesome! This school also enables us the time to have lots of extra curriculaar activities. I love SCCA!!!!!
