This school can’t even take stuff into consideration. They let a student bring food that a teacher is allergic to get away with it because she started crying. The vice principal is very not fit for this job because she rather not make the girl be held accountable for her actions. In fact, this same girl bullied multiple people and did many disgusting things in the past. Minor or not, they should still be held accountable. They intentionally ignore students with mental disorders or disabilities. They don’t have a special education for kids who need it and instead combine them with kids who are normal. East point academy you rather sit there and try to defend a child who cried but ask yourself, if it wasn’t her then why was crying? Then explain why she’s innocent.

Their current elementary guidance counselor has been trapping the cats in his neighborhood and disposing of them. He also has cameras all over his back yard pointing at his neighbors' houses, neighbors who have children. The school doesn't care that he has questionable behaviour. I will not be sending my kids there and have informed my friends and coworkers to follow suit..

As the parent of an elementary student who academically and emotionally excels at EPA, I feel obligated to negate the whiners on this site. I can’t compare East Point Academy to surrounding Lexington County schools, but—regarding teachers, staff, and parents—it sure as heck beats the York County public elementary where I learned and the Charleston K-5 school where I taught.

I was a teacher at this school for one year. I was shocked at the lack of support for behavior management. The school, which is charter, accepted all students who are not successful in the public school. Obviously, many of the students have underlying issues which translate to horrible behavior and a major problem in the classroom environment.
I am happy to not be in this school any longer. The administration, especially the Head of School was a complete joke. He was a military man who should not be in this role. He was not present with the teaching staff and was rude to the parents and everyone else.
Horrible experience for me. The only redeeming quality were my colleagues who had empathy.
Good luck with that East Point. Keep putting up that front.

Would not go back. Only reason we attended was for early second language training, but it was at a cost of poor English and Math training, a terrible lack of oversight and serious discipline issues with staff and administration...including nurses.

I must say this is the best school year we have thus far. When the new principal took over, a lot of families came back. There was not a high turnover rate this year compared to previous years. The new principal took on a lot of mess when she came, but it was handled with such class. We even had our first ever black history program. However, I was extremely disappointed with the turnout for that event. The parents who loves the school so much and loves how everyone comes together was not in attendance. I was extremely disappointed. Dr. Johnson is working very hard to get the school in order and she is off to a great start. Of course, some parents didn't like some of the changes because they think they run the school. Those same parents consider EPA a private school when in fact it is not. It is a public charter school. So far, we have not had any trouble with the teachers. Of course problems will arise, that's all a part of a growing school. Dr. Johnson is a valuable asset to EPA. lm hoping her contract is extended for longer than what it is stated for. I see a great future for EPA. Some of the board members could be more welcoming. I do know they treated the candidates who were pursuing the new principal position very rudely. If they did that imagine how they treat the parents. My only complaint is how some parents feel the need to do whatever they want because their spouse sits on the board or they are friends with certain board members without consequences and that's not fair. Communication could be worked on between staff and parents. I wouldn't want my children anywhere else besides East Point Academy and that's only if they extend Dr. Johnson's contract. If not, more families would leave and that's not a good look. Also, would love to see a more diverse staff. EPA is such a diverse school with its students and that would mean so much.

My daughter has been attending EPA since 4K and is now a rising 3rd grader. Overall, I have been pleased with the quality education she has received. She has always been on the honor roll and her Mandarin teachers give me positive feedback about her ability to communicate solely in Mandarin and even helps new students who are new to the program. In the beginning, there were definitely issues of nepotism on the part of the previous administration and teachers being internally bullied for speaking out against poor management and low pay- that's where the turnover occurred. The new prinicipal, Dr. Johnson is really turning things around and comes from a strong foundation in leading a Chinese Immersion Program in the Atlanta metro area. She is a hands-on administrator and it is not uncommon to see her working the car line on a weekly basis. On the flip side, I do believe that there is an inner circle of parents who "run" the school and render decisions that work in their and their children's favor. They are typically founding USC professors, doctors, lawyers who don't seem to value parents who fall outside the clique. This school could also use some cultural competency training. I find that some staff can be condescending to parents of color and even discipline Black children differently than Caucasian children (not mere speculation, speaking from experience). The Chinese teachers should be given a voice during parent-teacher conferences. On more than one occasion, I have had to gently remind the American teacher to allow the Chinese teacher to speak- even if she struggles a bit with English. Finally, for as diverse as the student population is, there needs to be intentional recruitment of teachers from diverse backgrounds to mirror such: African-American, Latino, Asian, etc. As far as bullying, I had have not had that experience because I educate my child about standing her ground, engaging adults as needed and if she doesn't get any support she has the right to physically defend herself. Some of the sentiments on here seem to be from helicopter parents who have sheltered their children and who want to be catered to. The bottom line is that no school is perfect but EPA provides quality instruction and yes, intense homework- but in the end my child will be better prepared to compete in global marketplace.

Our experience with this school has been incredible. Our daughter has attended for four years. The level of academics is challenging and could compete with any private school in this community. The teachers are smart and compassionate. For a small school the extracurricular opportunities are plentiful. The 360 approach to a well-rounded education including academics, culture, exercise, and overall learning is exemplary.

Curriculum is strong but communication and organization are very poor. You get 3 different answers for every question, no one ever seems to be on the same page.

We have been at the school since it was started. There are good things and bad things about this school. Admin hasn't always been ideal and there are many less than perfect people at that school. That being said, academically, my child has thrived and is consistently bringing home As & Bs. When I speak to parents that withdrew their kids and put them in public school, EPA is ahead of the curve. There have been some bullying concerns where staff didn't seem as concerned, but there ARE staff who are very concerned and once we figured out who to talk to, our child felt safer and resumed thriving. I have far more confidence in the executive staff now, and though I expect continued hiccups and issues, the fact that I do have someone who listens to my concerns and addresses them immediately means that we will continue to keep our child there until he/she ages out.

I have noticed since the new administration has taken over, Things are a lot better than they have been in recent years. The principal has expertise in other areas and that helps as well. We have noticed there is more to offer, even an updated school website. I'm happy to see many families return when the new principal started, including us. The only downfall is the board. They could use more professional training and have a team that is not biased and friends with certain people (parents). Background in education could not hurt either. Overall I'm happy that my children attend and learning another language that will be beneficial in the long run. Even the front desk staff doesn't look as stressed as they have before.

I have seen such an amazing change in my daughter. She is now EXCITED to go to school and still smiling when i pick her up! The entire staff at EPA is amazing and very passionate about working with their children and parents as a whole. I can not rave about this school enough!

We have two children at EPA who have thrived there. Their teachers have always seemed to care deeply about them, and the Mandarin instruction provides them with the additional challenge we were seeking. We have never encountered any bulllying or had problems with the administration. EPA is overall an excellent school where the teachers, administrators, and parents all work together to help the children succeed.

This was the worst experience! The administration was horrible! Hopefully the new administration will make some changes. My child was physically and emotionally bullied and no one cared. When I finally demanded action my child was blamed for it. The children are out of control and the teachers had no care or concern for the "good" students. Many were new and the inexperience seem to be a major factor. After 1.5 I pulled my kid out in mid year. We now home school and she's still recovering emotionally from the bullying.

Exceptionally high turnover rate-FAR worse than the surrounding community. This is not only of teachers, but other staff including all their administration, and students as well.
This school combines the worse aspects of Chinese style education with the worse aspects of American. They students are in a high stress environment, do rote memorization without comprehending the material, are subject to public humiliation from the teachers as a method of classroom management, is majorly underfunded, and has a student culture of smarting off and disrespect.

This school is a high pressure environment in which many children seem to find very stressful, and very early ages. Perhaps this is why the bullying is out of control here, with no relief.
I do not think the Board that runs this school has any training in early childhood education, and it is apparent.
So many people have quit, including most recently the principal and vice-principal at the same time, not to mention the numerous teachers. Many families have left. Now there are many new students and brand new teachers, and the kids that have been here awhile seem to be just re-learning the same Mandarin over and over to compensate for all the new students.

East Point Academy appears to be a well structured Mandarin and Math public school academy. While having our child learn Mandarin is nice, this is offered in various schools. We have witnessed in our EPA experiences that the administration, school, faculty, and school board deny, ignore, and cover up blatant and ongoing bullying among students. We have a problem with the end of the Operation Christmas Project due to it disrespects and disregards our faith, rights, family structure, beliefs, and rules.

We have three years of experience at this school. My children lost the love of learning. Many teachers don't seem to have their heart in it. We are sad that this school has such high turnover and troubling continuity of education. We look forward to our kids attending another school next year.

We have been at East Point going on 3 years this fall and truly love all the learning that is going on in my child's classroom. I have really seen her blossom with learning Mandarin. Her teachers have been nothing but wonderful!

This school is AMAZING!!!!! I am so impressed with the enthusiasm, spirit, and deep care of EPA students shown by ALL EPA staff! I also love the dedication and involvement from ALL EPA families. The hardworking EPA Staff and the awesome EPA families make East Point Academy a superior learning environment!!!!
