I have lived in multiple states and dealt with schools in those states either as a student myself or my children being students. This is one of the worst schools I have ever had to deal with. My child has an IEP and struggles with school work in general sometimes. This school has made it all worse. Last year was the worst year yet, it seemed as though the teachers/administrators were bullying him worse than the other kids were and no matter what class he was struggling in, there was no help to be had. They were Constantly pulling him out of class to talk about things but then asking why he kept falling farther and farther behind.
This year, were only 1 month in and were seeing some of the same issues again. The district has now changed its policy regarding graded work. Classes now have very few graded assignments and anything that the child does or finishes at home can no longer count as a grade (my sons IEP states he requires extra time to get things done correctly). For example, he had an in class assignment that he did not complete, the following day he didnt have time in class to work on it because they were onto something else so he brought it home and finished it, he received a 0 because he finished it at home so it cant be counted towards his grade. In other classes such as math, none of the work they do in class or at home counts towards their grade, only quizzes and tests do and they have a quiz or test every week starting the 1st full week. Therefore if you have a child who doesnt test well, they are going to find it hard to pass. And the school staff doesnt seem to care. Plenty of times my child has done the homework assigned knowing its nongraded and skipped questions he was confused on yet when the teacher checked the work all they did was look to see if all questions had an answer, if not it was considered not complete but theres no telling if the answers were correct or not and any questions that the child doesnt understand, they dont stop to ask about. Nothing they do makes any sense and if your child doesnt understand what theyre learning, the teachers just allow them to fail and keep moving to the next topic without even trying to make sure they have help.
South Carolina has one of the lower ratings compared to other states when it comes to schools and considering Lexington district 1 is one of the top rated in the state, I now see why.

This school is AMAZING. As a stundent Ive been coming here for 2 years, and they do everything so perfectly, they also find different ways of participation during hardships or limitations. Bullies are almost never tolerated and are found very fast. I would recommend trying it out.

The staff doesnt care about a child experience being bullied, they dont take bullying seriously, and they dont bother telling the parents until nearly a year later because we didnt think it was serious. Keep your kids away from this school if you want happy and healthy children.

Our children get about 10 - 15 minutes of homework per night. They say that they were allowed to do their homework in class and they finish it there. Im not sure if this is an effective approach to homework.

While this school has some good teachers who know their subject matter well, there are some very bad teachers there who have no place teaching children.

My children hear students use profanity in the halls and in classrooms all over the school, and no one does anything about it. They have said students use inappropriate language in front of the administration and they continue to walk by and dont reprimand the students.

The administration is ineffective because they are in denial that there are incomptetent teachers in this school. Maybe this is why South Carolina is on the bottom of the list in education throughout the country.

We have had 4 children go through this school over the years, since it opened. We have seen it all. Even though this school has a very nice learning environment for children, there are things that have been overlooked here over the years. There are some good programs and some very good teachers here, but there are also some incompetent teachers, as well! We have met with the administration about this over the past six years. The principal likes to sugar coat everything and is in denial that there could be ineffective, incompetent teachers in his school. No one is doing anything about it. This may be why South Carolina is on the bottom of the list educationally, across our country!

I love the character education program used in this school, and the teachers implement many experiences for students to "experience" content rather than just wrote memory types of activities. The school is clean and the staff respectful and kind.

The teachers have strong content knowledge and collaborate well. The administrators work closely with teachers to improve practice. The administrators also work with parents closely to help children be successful. They have a strong character education program, and the staff is invested in helping create well rounded students.

My time at Meadow Glen was Amazing. It's a modern school with no lockers because as students we are given iPads and lockers are not needed as they just take up space. The leadership as well as the teachers are very knowledgeable about their subject area and really truly care about the students. The principal and deans are amazing and build relationships with each student. I am now in high school and truly miss going to school at such a awesome place!

My children had a great experience at Meadow Glen Middle School. The Expeditionary Learning they have incorporated throughout the curriculum is outstanding. My children have grown as leaders, more confident in themselves and really enjoyed learning with this approach.

I'm a student here, and I'm not that crazy about it. After being open for a couple of years, the new school thing isn't as big of a selling point, and the schools real problems are starting to show. The kids here are mean and most aren't excepting to new kids. Also, what is the real point of CREW. They say its creating relationships, exploring within. This makes no sense because I've been to other schools with an even closer knit community. This time could also be used for more teaching or study hall. The school has become so overcrowded, that there several portables outside that aren't even used for more encores. This school has some serious problems to fix.

Excellent teachers, great oppurtunites (especially in fine arts, shoutout to Mrs. Stone the choir director) and beautiful building. I greatly enjoyed my time as an MGM Gator!

This is not a school you want your child to go to. There are almost weekly fights and vandalism in the bathrooms. Alot of the students are mean to each other, and get in trouble for dresscode or phone. The deans don't even allow students to use the bathroom between classes. There are no lockers, so all students have heavy bookbags. There's also no bell, so a teacher could let you out late, and you would be late to the next one. Also, all of the busses are crowded, three to a seat. My child comes home sweating each day. This school also claims itself as an expeditionary learning school, where they do different case studies. These case studies take up too much time, leaving children with little time to prepare for end of year exams. There are also few encores, which forces students to take classes that they don't want to. There was also a drug reporting which resulted in expulsion, and there are rumors of drug dealing. The school may have nice facilities, but that doesn't make up for how it's run.

As a student I can tell that this school isn't very good. We have no lockers and our book bags weigh a ton. They say all of our stuff is on our iPads but it's not. My book bag only has what I need for school and it weighs over twenty pounds. The teachers here don't really care about us, they care about the numbers on the test scores. I'm not saying all teachers though. Most just yell at students all the time while others try to help you. Also, the school gave all the teachers Mac book airs so they sit on those all day instead of teaching us class. The staff it's very good either.the deans get onto students for tiny things but pay no attention to the big things. The students are kinda nice, but most are jerks. I've never hated a school until I came to this one. If you have the choice don't send your kid to this school!

My child started here his year as an 8th grader and this has been the happiest year of his life! He has been in a few other schools in other states, and has found that the teachers, atmosphere, and students here are generally happy and welcoming. The teachers have seemed good to me overall, but I wish there were more gifted classes- like in science and social studies - but that seems to be district wide. Agree with the locker comment- I assume it is for safety reasons. Our old school made them carry CLEAR backpacks, at least these are normal. I really like the principal, the classes are doing real world activities like volunteering at the elementary school, presenting projects to the community, and learning CPR And survival skills. The students are given a lot of freedom, but with that comes an expectation of responsibility. They are supplied with iPads, and many projects are done electronically. Overall, love the school

It is quite alarming that the school principal shows little interest that there are incompetent teachers working in this school with inadequate content knowledge in their subject area. We met with the principal; he listened to us, and did nothing. It's unbelievable to think that these people have college degrees. Student behavior in our children's classes is awful. Our children tell us that their teachers yell at the students everyday. The Deans in this school are ineffective. It is a well designed school building, and could be a wonderful learning environment for middle school students. However, the administration needs to take a serious interest in what the students are learning!

We are disappointed with this school. It is a very new and quite beautiful facility. However, it is the quality of the teachers that really matters in a school, and too many of the teachers here just don't make it. We've had many reports of classes being left unsupervised, teachers giving inappropriate personal information, and of teachers without sufficient content area knowledge. The building administration doesn't seem interested in making improvements in these areas, as repeated complaints have fallen on VERY "dis-interested" ears. Another MAJOR problem .no lockers! Whose idea was that? WIth all the people must be involved in the design phase of new school construction, is it really possible that NO ONE said, "Hey, aren't these kids going to need lockers?" If there truly was a really good reason for eliminating the lockers, it was NOT communicated to the parents. These kids are carrying HEAVY book bags everyday. Bottom line -- teachers with questionable abilities, dis-interested administration, no student lockers. That means this school has problems. It takes more than a great facility to make a great school. As always, it's what's on the INSIDE that counts.
