My son was SA’d at school, in first grade, by another student. He told the teacher and trusted she would keep him safe. She didn’t. Once I caught wind of this, my son had to tell me because the teacher didn’t. When confronted, she stated she “should’ve told me” and that she was sorry. When I brought it up to admin, they swept it under the rug. It took 6 weeks for them to actually take action, but not until after I made a stink about the situation on our neighborhood Facebook page. Only then did an AP reach out to me about actually doing something to keep my son safe, but she was reluctant to do so stating “its been over two months, we don’t really understand why this is still bothering him”. But even before then my son came home telling me that his teacher told him she “forgot” about the incident. Once all was said and done, after the teacher had been asked to take administrative leave, she was “cleared” to go back to work and still be back in the classroom. But because of her “forgetfulness”, my son has experienced life changing trauma. AND, after she “separated” my son from the other student, she allowed the other student to claim more victims by being careless. If I could give this school zero stars I would. If this school is an option for you, I HIGHLY recommend finding somewhere else for your child(ren). Any and all issues will be swept under the rug whether right away or after the fire starts to die. From the principal down to the teachers, they’re all careless.

My children went to this school from Prek-4 to 2nd grade.

The community at this school is phenomenal. The teachers and paras have been there for years, even decades which says a lot for a military community with a revolving door.

The teachers and staff are very warm, welcoming, and truly understand diversity. Parents are always welcome and do a variety of family planned events.

The only con I have experienced is the reading and writing. It's apparent to me that the curriculum KISD uses for reading & Writing is terrible. My kids went to 2nd grade without being able to write a detailed sentence correctly. The fluency is below average. They are now at a different school in a different school for 4th and have had to catch up because they are behind.

However, their math and science skills are above average. KISD really nails it with math skills and fluency in that area. My kids can explain with skill, accuracy and reason values, grouping, and all word problems. Their current skill has been so impressed with them, considering their grade level students haven't reached that far.

My kids had loved this school and found so many lasting relationships within the school.

My three kids attended school here from 2014 to 2017. Everyone one of their teachers were amazing. They did parent conferences to make sure you new everything going on. They showed how much they loved teaching and wanting the kids to succeed.

This school is the best school my kids have attended. My kids where advance in their classes. They learned to be independent thinkers and will succeed in other schools thanks to the staff and teachers here.

Unprofessional from the principle down. Some of the teachers are great but when leadership isn’t great it goes down hill fast.

For months I asked for my child to get evaluated for his special needs and getting an IEP and they ran us through a rabbit hole never getting it done and always having a reason that was my child’s fault. They punished my child knowing that my child doesn’t understand fully. They target children that don’t fit in their mold to kick them out. They even told me tomhomeschool because lots of families are homeschooling... not a positive sign when there are people leaving to homeschool in a state that doesn’t fund homeschooling.

Dr. Warren, the principal, is very capable and does a great job in leading the school. The teachers also seem to hold her in high regard.

Very engaged and motivated teaching staff. They are courteous, reliable and polite. If you address an issue they seem determined to get to the bottom of it and resolve the situation to the best they can.

My child is in 1st grade and he doesn't have homework. The teacher wants us to read 20min with him every day and the only "homework" he ever gets are projects which he very much enjoys.

My son is currently attending 1st grade at HOBBY and I am very impressed with this school. The teaching stuff is absolutely amazing and they go above and beyond to help him be the best that he can be. They are very encouraging and helpful. The office staff is also very nice and always willing to help. The way they take care of their special needs students is also more than what I expected. My child is receiving speech therapy and has improved so very much. Dr. Warren seems to also be a very capable principal.
The only critique that I have is that I wish there would be more after school activities/or more spots in the current clubs.
Hobby is truly an example school where every student counts.

The teachers are amazing at this school. The principal and assistant principal's listen to the parents, and also show respect when a parent has to stand up and advocate for their child. Overall, I had a great experience at this school during the 5 years my children attended Hobby elementary. I have two children, one child who has Adhd and has been diagnosed with Autism and my another child who has no disabilities at all. The staff at Hobby elementary treated both of my children with the utmost respect, each child received the same level of care and guidance. Thank you Dr. Warren and to all the staff and teachers at Oveta Culp Hobby Elementary for the last 5 years, we are going to miss you.

The office personnel are horrible and always have an attitude problem and talk down to everyone. More than half the teachers I dealt with have hardly no patience with students. They only seem to have a huge passion for the star test, it's only teach to test. I was told the office my child's registration packet was complete and then on "meet the teacher" my child did not have an assigned class.....zero accountability of the office's incompetence.....

My child attended this school pre-k, k, 1st, and 1st again(2009-2013). My child was repeatedly suspended for behaviors out of her control. I asked them since pre-k to test her for developmental delays. Finally when they decided to hold her back in 1st grade, she was given the diagnosis of Autism. This was by far the worse school she has ever attended. I too this day have not heard of a child getting sent home every other day as well as frequent suspensions. We were relieved to leave that school zone. If your child is special needs, do not live in Comanche III.

Worst school officials, from the teacher to the principal. Unless your child is an angel, don't bother with this school, they will suspend, give detention, then suspend some more until they meet their goal in kicking your child out. All they care about is not having any misbehaved children. Worst of all, even if your child may have a disability that is causing their bad behavior and a behavior plan was created to help with the behavior, it becomes completely ignored until its too late. What's sad is this attitude of theirs is included among Student Services Department and the District of Education Department. But the real problem is the teacher, new teacher at that. Don't pick to teach youngsters if you don't know how to and if you don't know how to be respectful or kind to their parent.

This school has the fakes school personnel who are there for all the wrong reasons. In person, sure they seem friendly and act like they want the best for your child but when you speak to them over the phone or through email, they either ignore you or are completely unfriendly! The principal, assistant principal, and my son's teachers are amazingly all the same, absolutely careless. So unless you're child is an angel, don't bother going to this school. My son has been at this school for 13 days and today is his last day because they are kicking him out. Forget the fact that they're aware of a possible disability he may have, forget the behavioral plan that was created to help with his behavior, forget the fact that they can't give me any details on how they handle or redirect my child. They are all secrecy. In the last 13 school days, my son has been suspended 6 times with 3 detentions. They make it obvious they don't want to deal with him and their best solution is have him be gone. What's sad is that the director of student services and the district education coordinator are in on it too. I went as high as I could for this to be heard, for my son to be heard for his rights for it not being his fault for his behavior, he can't help it. His attention has the best of him and every person involved knows it. I'm truly disappointed at how they made me feel and how they let my son down. I hope others read this review who may have some relations to a possibly disabled child with behavior problems.

First of all, the only reason I even gave this school 1 star is cause that's the lowest I can put, I would give it no stars if I could!.. Please, by all means, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD OR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL!. This school has caused me & my whole family so much stress & heart ache. I will not go into every single detail cause it would take up too much of my day & Don't know if this thing will even have enough space to do so... Just keep my review in mind please! I would never want a family to go through what we have!

From a teacher: I worked at OCHES the first 6 years of my teaching career. I worked with Mr. Moore and Dr. Kunders. They both had different leadership styles. However, the school did absolutely amazing under both of them. Great admin, lots of love for the students, family oriented.

I am so disappointed with this school! The students do not get home work, or books to help the children. It's horrible because how in the world are parents suppose to know what our kids are learning and how to help them. Everything in this school is last minute! Announcements do not come home with time to properly prepare for to make it to your child's awards. I also didn't like how when they do the award ceremonies they sit the students that get awards seep rattled from those that do not get an award. I sat next to a mother that had to explain to her son that he had to sit on the floor because he did not get honor, I just felt that was unnecessary, I would rather celebrate with my children at home than to have anyone's child be treated like that!! I feel that this school was more worried about the state exams then teaching our children. This school will pass your kids just to pass them and I am so glad we are leaving this school

My daughter has went to this school since 2010. It's a really nice and clean school. The office staff are ALWAYS so ready to help you with your needs, and if they aren't able to help, they make sure they send you in the right direction. I've had a few concerns with a couple of teachers, and I felt they were reasonable concerns. When my problems/concerns need immediate attention Principal DR. TODD KUNDERS and Assistant Principal MRS. WENDY HAIDER, ALWAYS made my problem/concern their very own. They never acted as if I was wasting their time. They handled my problem/concern with the up most respect for my daughter and I. They both treat every child at OVETA CULP HOBBY ELEMENTARY as if they're their very own child. For this reason I will continue to stay at this school for as long as we're able. DR. TODD KUNDERS is absolutely phenomenal. He's all about our children's education and how to improve if/when traditional ways aren't working for you or your child. I feel so lucky to have him as my daughters principal, just sad we can't take him to when we have to leave.

I am so disappointed with the teachers at Oveta Culp Hobby. My son is finishing first grade and his teacher still calls him by the wrong name and even writes it down wrong on notes sent home. At the beginning I was understanding. Now with only weeks left, I find it ridiculous. I had to go in and ask three or four times before I could see any of my son's work. He is getting good grades on his report card, but I like to know how he is doing on his work so if there is something he is not understanding as well then we can work on it at home. I had emailed the teacher five times at the beginning of the school year questions and I didn't receive one single response. At conferences we asked the best way to get ahold of her to ask questions and she said that she was too busy to respond to notes, emails, calls, or texts. I understand not wanting to be bothered, but if I have a question about something written in his planner, than I expect a response! My son will misspell a spelling word while copying it down in his planner then study it the wrong way because she doesn't even look to correct it. This is the only list of words we have to study. I have asked for a hard copy and she refuses.

Extremely caring staff! They're very understanding of the children and the stresses of Army life on them. The last school my kids went to was not very impressing. My straight A child (1st grade) began to HATE school :( She didn't even want to get up in the morning! Her grades were actually dropping and she was less motivated (probably due to her teacher yelling all the time). Now that she's at Oveta she is so happy! Her grades have improved and her teacher is the sweetest! My son (4th grade) attended the same school before moving here to Ft Hood. He has ADHD and had a very hard time. His teacher there really didn't seem to care if he made it out of 4th grade or not. sad really... But now he has a teacher that is really working with him and really cares about his success!! He cried when he saw the enrollment packet for 5th grade. Thanks to the teachers at Oveta my kids are doing great in their Education! This school really has their ducks in a row in all aspects. I'm very please my children have such a wonderful school to attend while here on Ft Hood.

I had heard great things about this school, however, now that my daughter is attending Pre-K here, I have a different opinion. The teacher, so far, is not very communicative and has not assessed the children to see what their knowledge level currently is and have a base as to compare later on in the school year. My daughter comes home everyday not wanting to go back, which is very unusual. And I feel as the class material is not challenging for her. The school's location and layout makes it somewhat difficult to have an easy and smooth traffic flow. Pre-K through 1st grade students get release at 2:40pm and 2nd through 5th grade get releases at 2:45pm, so basically, at the same time, it is unorganized and it makes it very difficult to pick-up your child. Ironically, Pre-K gets released in the farthest point from the school entrance. I feel that as to how unorganized the system is at this school, they focus on enforcing policies that are not as important, and are really strict about them, disregarding, important issues and finding ways to improve/solve them. And, there's no PTA. I am overall very disappointed with our experience with this school so far.

Great school, the principal was very helpful and understanding with my sons anxiety and school phobia. Provided him with special needs accommodations (504) and the teachers are excellent. This school is great with academics and is still very fun and enjoyable. I would recommend this school to anyone. The Talented and Gifted Education at this school was very impressive for my child. This school is great with security and safety of the students. The teachers are nice and programs are offered throughout the year for military families and dyslexic children. It has specials such as Physical Education and Music. Overall A "Great School"

My children went here for a few months. If you don't have a child with Special needs, this is an excellent school. The school is very strict about security. You can't take a younger child into your older child's class for a party(Christmas, Valentines, etc. ) you must show i.d. to pick up your children. The principal was horrible, but he's retiring.
