Location:  Home to the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood is the largest active duty armored post in the United States Armed Services. Fort Hood rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin.

Schools:  There are eight independent school districts surrounding Fort Hood:  Belton, Cooperas Cove, Florence, Gatesville, Killeen, Lampasas, Salado, and Temple. There are seven elementary schools and two middle schools on post, which operate under the Killeen Independent School District. Copperas Cove Independent School District (CCISD) is a public school district serving approximately 7400 students in Copperas Cove and surrounding areas.

Fort Hood Housing: Privatized housing consists of 13 villages with over 6,700 units of military housing. On post housing ranges from single houses to eight-plexes and has two to five bedrooms.
