Over the past two years, this school has truly felt like a second home for my daughter the teachers dont just teach, they genuinely know her by name, her strengths, and even her struggles. What sets this school apart is how every staff member takes the time to nurture each child as an individual, making sure no one gets lost in the crowd. I couldnt be more grateful for the warmth and dedication this school pours into my child every single day.

My daughter is in 8th grade and thriving at RCCS. She began falling through the cracks her previous school due to the large class sizes and my gut told me she needed a smaller, more nurturing environment to help ease her anxieties. I was right. Most of the student body has learning challenges and that made my child feel normal and seen. Weve seen her go from dreading school and long hours of homework to waking up on her own and managing her workload independently. If your child feels different or isolated at their current school, this place deserves a visit.

My daughter is very bright, but she struggled in another school last year as an 8th grader. We had to pull her out of that school at the end of her 8th grade year . We did not have any known options and we were trying to home-school her.She is a very "social" person ,so that was not working out well. We wanted a Christian school and we found out about River City Christian School. Our daughter does not have any diagnosed learning disability like some of the great kids at the school. She is hyperactive and has some troubles staying on task. She simply had some discipline problems at school and at home last . River City was a God's send for us. They have taken a special interest in our daughter and are very supportive. Some of the other Christian School close by were not very supportive. Our daughter is doing very well in her 9th grade year both in school and with her behavior. The teachers and staff do focus on children with learning disabilities ,but many of the kids at River City do not have significant learning disabilities. I would recommend the school for any parents who want their children in a Christian environment.

One of the best schools that focuses s on the students strengths for learning. My son is going into his 3rd years has has progressed so much the staff have a love to our children that they want them to succeed with faith in God and love.

This school has done a great job helping our ADD son. The small class sizes allowed him to concentrate better. His reading scores improved 2 grade levels this past year. Very supportive teachers and staff.

I began my journey at RCCS back in 2016 and it was a great experience. I dont have a learning difference, but they were able to meet my needs academically and emotionally. Before I went to RCCS I was getting bullied in public school. I dont remember a day I didnt come home crying. At RCCS I thrived and once I reached my high school years, I was able to complete 4 years of high school within 2 years and was able to graduate with my older sister. :) I graduated valedictorian of my class at 16 years old. I thank God that RCCS was there for me and my sister when we needed them.

River City Christian School is an excellent school with a very nurturing environment for my child. The staff is very caring. They take time with each child to educate, but also to help build the child's self esteem. They are helping to set my child up for success in the future. I am so glad to have found this school. It is a true parent/teacher partnership.

River City Christian School is a great school for children who learn differently or who need a safe place to be. River City is also a Christ centered school where the students can learn and gain a Christian worldview. For me I was one of the students who needed to be there because they learn differently than others. For students who are new the teachers and students they're make sure the new students feel welcome. The school uses a Christian curriculum, the BJU press to help students gain a Christian worldview. The school focus a lot of projects are hands on, and are led by the students. The teachers encourage the students to resasearch any question we might have. We'll River City Christian School is not just a school but is a family.

This school has changed our lives. We are so grateful to the staff that has truly invested in our child. The ratio between student and teacher is low. I felt like that was beneficial as you have so many schools out there that donot get to work with students one on one, here at river city christian school they do. The school has a family like atmosphere when you walk in. I felt safe and confident in the staff taking care and teaching my child. Powerline was a game changer, it's a program that helps with reading comprehension and that was an area that my child was struggling with. They met her exactly where she was and she has improved and went from barely passing to a straight A student. This is our story and everyones story will not be the same but what this school has done for us has exceeded our expectations. This is the school for your child if they are struggling and stuck in a huge classroom where they donot get the one on one help they need and are looked over and passed on. I care about my child's future and I took action and invested in a school that would make a difference spiritually,mentally, and educationally. They have so many different programs for elementary,middle and high school. The curriculum they used was a beka but they have now changed it to bju. They also used math u see which has helped tremendously, ixl for continued learning. Next steps to make sure the student succeeds after high school for jobs and college. Another thing I liked was how the parents of the students were so involved in the school functions and events, they really take pride in the school and that was inspiring to me, they made me and my family feel very welcomed. They will get a biblical Christian foundation and will be ready and prepared when they graduate. The proof is in the grades and changes that I have seen at home. RCCS provides a Christ-centered, safe environment in order to help students learn. We use the BJU curriculum as a base with supplemental materials. Students have an active role in their learning. Methods used by teachers are effective for the whole class and help each individual child. Methods include hands on projects, student led lessons, researching questions and concepts, and discussion - just to name a few. Focusing on the whole child, social skills are incorporated into the day to day lessons and activities to help with character building, self worth, and problem solving. Most importantly, the mind of Christ is seen by students, parents and visitors because of the "Love, Care and Serve like Jesus" motto of the staff. Graduates from the school have been successful in continuing education institutions such as Marshall University, UTSA, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas Tech - to name a few. Some have gone on to become nurses, doctors, military servicemen and women, as well as successful entrepreneurs. The administration is happy to answer any questions parents or visitors may have.

There is a zero tolerance policy for bullying. My son attended RCCS for two years and not once was bullying ever a problem there.

This school is the Best place for any child who learns differently! My son has sensory processing disorder. Not a severe case but enough that a main stream private school could not accommodate him. This school was truly a blessing because they tailor how he learns to his lessons. They dont teach worksheet after work sheet they focus more on hands on learning. I could not be happier with the progress he has made!

It is a Christian school and they work on character development as well Christian values. Even though it is a Christian school, non Christian students with learning issues are allowed to attend and they become a work in progress. Are they perfect? No, but they try to do the right thing.

For many students with learning difficulties, home work can be challenging because some parents are so busy they can not spend time to help the student. Because most of the concepts are worked on in class and a review of the concepts the next day, homework is kept to a small amount each day. before moving on to a new task.

All of the teachers have college degrees and care about the students. They go out of the way to help students be successful. They think out of the box to find ways to reach the students, They do tons of in-service training on the best way to reach kids with learning difficulties.

When I realized that the teachers at this school were not certified I was initially hesitant because I was told they all had degrees. Some of these teachers don't even have degrees from reputable schools. Both principals dont even have degrees in education or masters--which is highly noticeable. There used to be some really great teachers incuding a young man who was there for years who had been a former student. After he was sent away to a better school real problems started happening. They also had a real good english teacher a few years ago who also left. Now there is only a few teachers who actually know their stuff. The exec. director fired over half is staff this summer so we have pulled out our child as the school is about to close.

They don't really. They just give less work and baby their students. None of their teachers have degrees in special education. The few that knew what they were doing were all let go by the exec. director.

Most of the teacher's are the bully. Most especially the exec. director and the female principal. That female principal (who doesn't know anything about teaching) used to bully my daughter's elem teacher every day!

They say they dont give homework because they want students to have family time. But really its because the teachers are too lazy to grade the hw! After I pulled my child out she fell way behind her public school peers because she was not equipped to do the work that most schools require.

Homework was not stressed as it is in public school. There was never a heavy load, until Science Fair time and then it was a little much - the stress on my student was sometimes overwhelming. My student despised science fair, wished there was something that would have been more in line with their interests instead of being forced to do this every single year. Not only counted in science class, but also in their English class. Was sad to see the outcome products done by parents or grandparents, instead of by their student.

Was amazing the first few years. However, as the years went by, emphasis was placed on hiring teachers for their "beliefs and being Spirit filled" rather than being qualified to teach children with learning differences. The teachers who actually understood and worked best with the students were "fired" and inadequate, under-qualified teachers were hired. Teachers were punishing students for their "spectrum" behavior instead of trying to understand and help the student understand what they were doing wrong in a kind and loving way.There has been a decline in the quality of teachers hired over the years compared to when my student first started there. There are a few teachers that have been there for a while that are mean and bullies to the students they don't particularly like and turn a blind eye to the students they do like. Time for them to leave!

I think it originally started from a good place, but has declined greatly over the past few years. There is bullying and an attitude of "my way or the highway" in administration. They can talk the talk, but walking the walk has not been evident, unless it benefits them. Very sad.

Hard to answer this now, in the beginning it was amazing. But over the years, seeing students and families punished for behavior that was normal ASD type behavior and actually asked to leave instead of working with the student in a compassionate and teaching way was shocking. There are programs in place that are supposed to be the best ever for students are not effective. What I saw that helped best was the one on one attention from the teachers because the class sizes are small that helped the students the most.

When my student first started it was like an oasis in the desert for our family. My student was not a trouble maker and was a conformer and did very well, but as the years progressed and the good teachers were either fired or left, it declined. An amazing concept for a school to work with students who have learning differences and it is very much needed here in San Antonio. I so hope they can fix what is broken. Unfortunately, it is no longer a school I can recommend to anyone at this time.

First year - Fabulous Five Star, subsequent years showed significant decline. Bookkeeping, invoicing etc was an absolute mess. They were unable to produce a record of charges requested to reconcile an account.

Homework is not overwhelming for students until science fair time. Science fair requirements can be very heavy.

The ones that started with my students were great. As the year progressed and changes were made there were issues with teachers being unhappy. That reflected to the kids. My child was yelled at for forgetting something in the classroom. Another incident was a student in the same class had a meltdown and was not referred out for assistance but placed into a substandard area of the classroom for discipline. This bothered my student very significantly.

When we first started, I loved how students developed! They had great support teachers who could find their potential and help them get there. Year by year those teachers have not been renewed and the quality of teaching and leadership passed on to students has dropped.

Intially, yes, it was the most flexible learning environment. Our last year was met with a lot of short tempered teacher frustrations and write ups. Attitudes of some of the teachers were very poor and the students were able to reflect that to parents.

All of the students have Bible class with devotions. They learn bible lessons about being Christ-like. Integrity, compassion, and respect are characteristics that the children are taught- by example because they see it everyday in the leadership, teachers, and support staff.

RCCS is a small, accredited private school that provides specialized academic support. The school s low teacher student ratio allows for a high degree of individualized attention. The school is very safe and students tend to be very welcoming of others. RCCS does not participate in the high-stress STAAR testing program. While alternate tests are administered, they are used to help gauge student progress and target assistance not to hold students back or categorize them. Many of the school s academic programs are self-paced, and allow students to advance based on their individual abilities. The school offers extensive extracurricular activities and is a member of the Texas Christian Athletic League for sport and fine art programs.
