As someone who is in middle school (8th grade) and has been here since 6th, this is probably the best rating I can give it in terms of social inclusiveness. For context, I am a young LGBTQ+ and have been treated quite unkindly by other students. They don't do anything to me, but they will actively ignore and exclude me from most things. Other friends I have also experience the same. The school itself is Terrible about notifying parents and students on events and tend to do it 48 hours (at most, it's usally 23 :/) they don't have a very good arts program and give the middle schoolers less options and engagement for their future, basically treating us like elementary schoolers. Those, however are just things I've experienced in my time there in terms of being honest. If your considering going to this school for the education, I do recommend it if your 9th+ because the classed are very good and engaging, but if your looking for an inclusive place for everyone with classes that don't make you want to rip your hair out, this isint the place for you. That is just my opinion, it may be a bit better than I'm making it out to be. They have good Turkish, Math and engaging PLTW courses, but not a lick of theater, preforming arts or anything of the sort. They do offer an art and music classes for 8th+ but it's clear they don't give it as much funding in that direction. Not the best school, but not terrible. I'm completely on the fence and simply here to give my opinions.

I moved to San Antonio in 2017 and was looking for a great school of choice in this area. I came across this school during my search and wanted to see whether it was a good fit for my kids. My daughter was in high school and my son was in middle school. My daughter had a lot of dual credit and AP opportunities when she started. By her graduation, she had 95 college credit hours and got accepted to UT Austin and almost 85 credits have been accepted. Now my son is in high school and he is taking dual credit and AP courses as well. They also offer CTE pathway courses along with advanced coursework like PLTW where my son has an opportunity to challenge himself to excel in that path. They also have a lot of after-school clubs and extracurricular activities. My son is in Robotics, National Honor Society, Psi Alpha National Honor Society in Psychology, and Solar Car. In addition to this, I am very pleased with their college counseling program. They have a robust program that increases my son's college and career awareness. At any time my son and I can reach out to his college counselor and meet. They are very open and flexible to meeting with us. In the second semester, they are moving to a new location where the students will have more opportunities like maker space and athletics. So I am very excited for my son and I am sure he also will.

This school has been one of the best places with the best leadership I have ever experienced. I am constantly impressed with the care and concern administration and staff shows towards the students and each other. They have also done an amazing job adapting to the challenges and changes brought forth by the pandemic. There is always room to learn and grow, but SST is constantly striving to be better and do what is best for the students.

I've visited SST many times and talked with parents. My experience is positive and though one parent expressed concern about difficulties their child experience, the parents also praised the teachers and administrators for working closely with them to resolve the problem. This high school consistently ranks in the top ten of all high schools in San Antonio. The small size and STEM focus make it a great option for many students. AND it's tuition free.

This school has received multiple awards every year for how effective its program is. Simply go to the school's official website and see the news of the latest awards it has received. Everything from best school based on SAT scores to Gold Medal in working with students at risk. Students are also earning millions in scholarships every year as evidence of the effectiveness of the teachers.

As a former 7th grader, I hate this school. I started in 6th grade with a good principle and the school was nice then, they changed the principle and messed everything up. my mother took me out in the last 2 months because she could see that I was depressed from all of the yelling and punishments for ridiculous things. I know no one trusts a student review but, please do not go.

Too much bullying, the teachers do nothing, and the school likes to try and hide it. Although, there are good aspects, like the Turkish and Russian classes, but that doesn't make the school the most ideal place to send a kid.

I definitely agree with reviewers who note the rudeness of the office staff, but that's only worth one star. The administrative and teaching staff could use some coaching on parent communication, and following through on their "home visit" service they tout so much. However, I have found the teachers to be willing to work with me as a parent, and I have no problem with the quality of instruction. My child has been in a private religious school, public middle school in a large well-regarded school district, and at this public charter. So I feel I have a balanced realistic expectation about Texas education. This school has limitations I would like to see being addressed: extracurriculars for sure, of all kinds--sports, music, academic, and social. Fundraising alone is insufficient as a student activity. But having said all that, if access to tutoring is more important to you than football, marching band, or UIL, this place might be a fir for your family.

SST-SA has been described by students as a small school with a big heart . This school works toward college readiness and closing gaps through a learner centered approach that places high expectations on ALL students and then supports those students. SST's continuous improvement model relies on data to determine what is/not working. In the 5 years that the school has had small graduating classes (around 30 students each), students have been accepted to some of the finest and most prestigious universities in the country (e.g. MIT, U.S Naval Academy, UT, A&M, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Drexel, Brandeis, Notre Dame, U.S. Air Force Academy, etc.)! SST has a team of counselors that focus on getting students into college and getting scholarships. Each year our small graduating classes have raised MILLIONS of dollars in scholarship monies. Last year SST-SA graduated 30 seniors and between them they raised OVER FIVE MILLION DOLLARS! The culture and climate of the school are amazing and give the school more the feel of a family than a collection of students, teachers, and staff.

I don't care for the school my daughter has gone there for three years, she will not be going any longer, the office staff is rude, lost paperwork,can never see the administration even if you make an appt...use this school only as a last resource.

My child attended this school for 6 years: from the day it first opened until he graduated high school. This is a great school. Their teachers are given the freedom to teach, the principal is given the responsibility to discipline, and the parents are almost required to be involved in the education of their children. This school is what the public schools used to be like before. If you want your child to learn and be taught, put in an application for THIS school They teach your children on the academic level they are, not at the academic level of the child who needs the most help. The help for those students are given on a one-on-basis. You don't hold an entire class behind for one student; you bring that student up the to speed individually. Thank you SST! I have the privilege to be able to say that whomever had this dream to make it come true thru this type of school deserves my utmost respect. I have been blessed to raise another child since one is 21yrs and the other is 8yrs. My son began his 3rd grade year here at the School of Science and Technology, and I couldn't be more proud of his success compared to NSISD. He now can finally be the outstanding child with his most beautiful minf that this school has brought out and complements him in his everyday life experiences, in which I can only imagine where his future will lead him due to the entire structure of this school. I am ecstatic that my son was picked and we will do whatever it takes to help the school help him reached for the stars. Thank you.

My granddaughter is new to SST. After three days there she has only glowing reviews for the educational atmosphere and the teachers and student who sre there to learn. I have a very good feeling about her next five years at this school and look forward to her weekly reports.

There are many concerns with the post from August 21, 2013. We acknowledge that there may have been some issues with the school this particular student attended yesterday; however, we do not believe this comment is about the School of Science and Technology (SST) for various reasons. First of all, our uniform shirts are not sold for $15. Secondly, we cannot kick out a student (although we do expel students from time to time as a result of discipline issues). Most importantly, our faculty and staff go above and beyond to make sure that the needs of all of our students are met and we do have a contracted Counselor who works with our students. And to address the last concern, we do have a nurse s office and have had one since our school opened in 2005. We kindly ask that these comments be addressed with the correct school, as there are several schools with very similar names.

I have three students in the School of Science and Technology (SST) now. I have a child who graduated last year after attending SST from 6th thru 12th grades. My child just finished the freshman year at a local university with a 3.53 GPA. SST is a great school and I cannot believe the comments by some parents and one student. The parent who states that SST "has no clue" has been rating the school the same way for 5 or 6 years since her son could not make it at SST. She is the one without a clue about the school. The writer who says he/she is an ex-teacher could not have taught at SST or he/she would not have rated it the way he/she did. He/she is probably an ex many things because he/she cannot succeed in any position. Please note that the raters who are uneducated (cannot write well or spell correctly) are the ones who rated the school other than the excellent learning facility it is. The "student" who rated it did not attend SST or attended it for a short time. SST students write much better than that. If any student or parent is considering attendance at SST, then please ignore the negative and untrue comments. SST is an excellent school with ouystanding afculty and students.

As a graduate of SST in 2012, there are many flaws within the school, especially in the administration. They focus more on having their school look amazing, rather than focusing on having their students excel. During my high school years there,due to the numerous mock TAKS, and now STAAR testing they implement, those who took an AP Class(es) suffered the most for losing class time to participate in mock testing. However, the teacher staff is superb. I can not say though its the same for all the staff, however the teachers I had were amazing in wanting us to excel and do well in school, and life. There is is a strong language/cultural barrier, and I wasn't too exposed to it due to having mostly teachers that were native English speakers. However, because of them it made the last four years worth going to the school.

Minus the several glaring flaws in the administration and educational options, this school has one thing going for it and that is the teachers. The vast majority of all the teachers, can't say all of them, are absolutely wonderful. My child has come home many times praising several of his teachers. Because of the disorganization of the administration I asked my son if he ever wanted to leave his school. He told me he didn't want to leave because of his teachers and his friends (as most kids feel). I've visited the school multiple times and was able to talk to most of my son's teachers. They were wonderful and I can see that they work hard to give their students the best education that they can offer.

I have kids that attend this school. My daughter has had three teacher changes and school is not even in summer. First let me say that if you move your child will suffer because you can not register or move themto another SST. Which I think is a stupid idea. Now I drive almost 50 minutes both ways because I cant transfer them. Lunch is 3.50 like really what are they eating? My daughter is very active and was told they only provide learning for quiet non active students, who says that? My son was told that American kids are not smart and being turkish was better, shaking my head, really? Overall I think its just a nice break for them and a rip off. My kids learn but the sacrifices are crazy. Not to mention the aftet school care does nothing it says it will provide. False Advertisment. They don't even have counslors so how are you able to help kids whose loved one may pass? I would rather have put them in public school.

As a former teacher (among a list of MANY), I have seen what happens behind the scenes in the SST system. They do not value their teachers as professionals and treat them as workers in an assembly line to build their "reputation" as a great school. They try to get as much work out of their teachers as they can so they can get their money's worth; it is not uncommon for at least one or two teachers to resign mid-year. The overall teacher turnover rate has always been high for this reason. The favoritism and nepotism that goes on is disgusting. Kids don't get the wonderful education they need, especially when they have teachers whom the kids literally cannot understand because of language/culture issues, so they fail their class or grades are falsified. Just look at standardized test scores for the school--low scores in science & math. Ironic. Girls and boys are treated very differently by the all-male administration, with boys getting the more preferable treatment. Parents may love this school, but are really kept in the dark about the realities of how things truly work. Just look at how often administration and teaching staff changes every year--that should be a clue.
