Bullying issues are constantly overlooked. This is my 2nd child here and both dealt with issues that were not even remotely handled. Children who are physically violent dont get any form of punishment, but the child that was harmed gets in trouble. Teachers arent paying attention and principal just writes off concerns and talks over you. The counselor, nurse, pe coaches, support staff and music teacher have all been wonderful and have been the only reason we've stayed this long.

Ive had two daughters attend this school. In both cases they ran into a teacher that shouldnt be teaching. My oldest had the same teacher twice and we had to pay for tutoring as the teacher was not helpful. My personal observation at the time at open house was a marked delta between my daughters class and the other same age students. I judged this on the fact that all of the same grade did the same assignment and my daughters class looked terrible across the board.
Joining her for lunch multiple times the kids in my daughters class were bouncing off the walls versus the other classrooms walking in single file line and quiet. We had her tested for dyslexia and she has a form of it but the leadership sat on the results for over half a year. My wife had to become belligerent for them to move on it. That teacher is now retired where she cant harm future students.
Now second daughter just got below on social studies. I asked how the class works and she said the teacher passes out a worksheet, theyre expected to read it and answer questions and thats it. No actual lecture. So now get to take time off work to get to the bottom of this. I already sense the only path is tutoring again. Now mind you shes been at or exceeds level every year prior to this year. She has often come home with letters on her good behavior and positive attitude.
Why send them to school if were expected to teach them and send them to tutoring?
Prior to this year the school had no grades. Setting the kids up for failure in middle school.
Reason for high scores is affluent area, not because of the staff. Most of the parents are well off, working solid jobs and can pay for tutoring. We cover for their poor teaching.

The staff and teacher are working hard to improve dismissal process. The art, music and p.e teachers are caring and helpful.

The administration is not accessible and not responsive to parent concerns. The current principal does not directly interact with students or parents. Fortunately, the teachers are caring, but overworked and stressed due to the large class sizes. This is a stark contrast to the elementary school my children previously attended elsewhere in the district where the administration was accessible and supported the teachers, students, and parents for a truly collaborative learning environment.

Staff are very stressed and teachers either don't reply to emails or take several weeks to get back to you. I found the whole staff to be very tense at times and when dealing with other parents in several occasion I observed them to be very irretible. In general they are not welcoming .

This school has been excellent for both of our kids! They were both very well prepared for middle school. I don't understand some of the complaints of the previous parent as the early checkout policies are district policies, not school policies.

Four of my children are or have attended Gilmore. The school is over crowded! Suzanne Jones is rude and inconsiderate of families. Stay away if you have Gifted/Talented children. They will be pulled out 1 x a week to meet with the GT teacher for about an hour. That's it! Too many bad rules: 1) can't take your child home early after a class party- party ends at 2:15pm, school gets out at 3pm- you wait for 45 min while the children watch a cartoon. 2) Can no longer have younger siblings attending Gilmore watch an older sibling in a school performance or attend each others Christmas parties. 3) Can only have 2 guests per child at class parties- so if you have 2 non school age children plus yourself you cannot attend the party. Or, If you want the child's grandparents plus yourself to attend one grandparent cannot attend. 5) You cannot sit at your child's table with your school age child during lunch. Good- The school is filled with affluent children from well educated homes. I do like the children and their values.

We were truly sad to have to move out of the district. Gilmore Elementary has such a good feeling of community and most of the students/teachers seem very happy. After kindergarten, my daughter was reading on a 3rd grade level! Thank you, Ms. Wittenmeyer! We love you!

We LOVED our time at Gilmore Elementary! I found that the school, the teachers, and principle nurtured my children both academically, and creatively, as well as still encouraging them to be kids and have fun. My children loved going to school and learning here, which has not been the case at some of the other schools we've been in (we've been in 4 different elementary schools due to my husband's career). They were happy to go everyday, all while still excelling scholastically. Just walking through the halls, you can feel the positive energy and school spirit of the teachers and students. Parental involvement is high. Communication b/w administration, teachers, and parents was wonderful. Excellent art teacher as well!! If I could have stayed and raised all 4 of my children attending Gilmore Elementary, I would!

I have a child with Autism and ADHD. The teachers have worked so well with him and they truly LOVE him! I could not PAY for the education he is receiving! They never give up on him! and he is integrated into regular classes!
