Great school with good teachers that encourage students to learn and thrive, the orchestra program is excellent, no issues with bulling, the buildings are clean and like brand new, just one negative thing to tell is that coach McKay and coach Sanchez are bullies to girls in volleyball. They probably never played the game and pretend they know what they are doing, and obviously don’t know how to treat girls at that age.

The teachers are mostly nice, but the students are mean and the workload is too much. I lose more braincells to being hit in the head by students than I gain from completing assignment after assignment after assignment.

My daughter has a better attitude overall, the improvement observed in 6th. And 7th. Grade is outstanding. They really involve students in academics, music, sports and healthy habits for life. The performance of this school in sports is remarkable. Bullying is not a issue in this school. I recommend this school and now is the number 1 in the District!. Go Panthers!

The administration, especially the principal are focused on athletes. Athletes who are consistent bullies are celebrated and given honors. If your child is a strong athlete, they will do well.

Special needs students are put in co-teacher classes that have 30 or more students, which takes away the ability of the co-teacher to effectively help. The gen ed teachers in the co-teach classes act as if the special needs students are the co-teachers responsibilities. Many teachers refuse to follow the accommodations for students that are in IEP and admin will not intervene.

Students who are bullied are punished more often than the bully. Students who are on the receiving end of bullying are punished until they stop reporting. Admin turns a blind eye to athlete bullies, they are given free reign.

It was a struggle to see my special needs child pushed to the side, not given the proper accommodations and attention needed to be successful.

Students are loaded down with busy work to be done at school without resources available to help them.

Many great teachers, but more teachers who are not able to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities. Refusals to follow IEP for special education are rampant and principle will not enforce.

The school does not promote inclusion for special education students. Special needs children are bullied, teased, and taunted. Admin turns their back on the offender, and instead puts the special needs children in ISS and lunch detention until they stop asking for help against other mean students.

We love Lopez! The students are respectful and accepting of others, and there is a lot of diversity. The work can be challenging at times, but my daughter has learned so much and is ahead of her peers in other areas. The best part of Lopez is the students who are friendly and don't seem to care about status or designer clothes. They mainly focus on academics and extra-curricular activities.

We are a military family and I just wanted a school that valued my student. Though I can not say that Lopez caters to military students I can say that all students are valued at this school. I must say when we first enrolled I liked all of my daughters teacher but I was skeptical of the counselors. Well I have come to love the counselors. I had to push a little but they were responsive. The teachers are great and the students are welcoming. My daughter's last school which was all military children was not as responsive or welcoming. Love this school. It is such a good fit for my student. The school is orderly but you can definitely tell you are in a Middle School. I tell the staff and teachers all of the time that I am so happy when I walk through the doors of the school.

I love lopez!!! This school has great teachers! some people might be a little mean at times but you never see anyone fighting or punching. It's violence free! And if your new to school people will make you feel welcome!

This school is very beautiful, because the teachers, administration, faculty, and staff are all very helpful, caring, respectful, and trustworthy. The pupils here are very friendly (maybe not all, but a majority), but some of the boys here are quite disruptive and rude (that's not really important). The pre-AP levels of education is my most favorite, because I look forward to challenges and learning more, to grow and become a great person. I would be very pleased when more and more children attend this fantastic school. :))

I went to this school for 3 years. What I learned here could never be matched. There is a wide variety of types of teachers. You never know what you are going to get. My 6th grade year I had the BEST reading teacher ever, and after that they all were not nearly as good. One year you will have the best group of teachers ever, and another you will have the worst. I think a factor that contributes to this is the fact that a large amount of the teachers are sport coaches that needed to have a teaching job to work for the school. Like any school, there is bullying. The counseling staff works hard to prevent this, but i cant say the same for a lot of the teaching staff. Also if you don't want a lot of homework this IS NOT the school for you! But if you are into technology or engineering they have a great staff for that! Over-all I think my experience at this school was great (with a rough start). I highly recommend this school to anyone who is moving from out of state (btw Texas schools are 10x more strict than any other state). Have fun!

I agree with all of the positives from the Mar 6, 2012 post. As for the not so good about Lopez, I am not impressed with the teachers' organization. Granted it is only the second week of school and perhaps teachers are still trying to get into a routine. However, on several occasions homework assignments were either not posted or unavailable on the website. My son was missing an assignment from the first week and I found out about it from the parent portal - no communication from the teacher. With reference to teacher unprofessionalism, one of my son's teachers made an inappropriate comment about him to another teacher that was loud enough for him to hear it. So far, I am not impressed.

This school needs teachers who actually care and know how to communicate with the parents and students in a proper manner. I have dealt with teachers who are sarcastic, impatient or just plain don't reply to my emails and they have that same sarcasm and impatience towards the student. If it weren't for this issue, my child would really like attending Lopez. Although, I am greatly pleased with the office staff, the counselors, the principal and the nurse, plus their attentiveness to bullying and student structure and behavior. I also like the way they monitor the comings and goings of students, making sure students don't stray off campus when they're not suppose to and maintain organization with both morning and afternoon traffic.
