I attened Johnson High School in the 2023-2024 school year, during my freshman year.

I do not have any positive things to say about my experience.

I am allergic to chemical fragrance, and to some cleaning products, which I unfortunately only learned after attending Johnson. To sum up the days I attended there, to call myself a warped version of myself would be an understatement.

I had every allergy symptom in the book whilst attending, brain fog, fever, swelling, eczema, fatigue, post nasal drip, rashes, itching, full-body inflammation.

And yet nobody cared.

I would go to the nurses office almost daily, clocking in with a fever of 99°, and despite telling the nurse a normal temperature for me was 96°, she would send me back to class. Even when I was seriously ill, I would be sent back to class due to a district policy, like all kids.

At one point I had such an eczema flare up behind my ear, the spot where the ear connects to your head, that the nurse described it as an "open wound". It was as painful as you'd think. She simply bandaged it and sent me back to my class.

The same class where kids ridiculed me, asking me if I was "turning into an elf". and would empty out bottles of cologne onto eachother, at one point cracking an entire glass bottle of cologne onto the floor.

We had to stay in the classroom.

I am not academically challenged, and yet I had grades no higher that 30's in all my classes. Perhaps if the counselors cared they would have done something, anything, when they saw my grades from 8th grade, A's and B's. Seen that something was wrong, but nobody cares at a school with 3500 kids.

The kids at this school, from my memory, were either shut down and silent, or loud, mean kids, who spoke like they were raised on tiktok. The bathrooms, boys and girls, were hazy with vape smoke. Even after instilling a policy that any kid caught with a vape would be sent to alternative school, this problem continued.

When the electricity went out, the sinks wouldn't work. During passing period, kids would be packed together like sardines. A girl on my school bus would empty out aersol cans of perfume onto herself daily, yet nothing was done, even after reporting it. I do not believe any middle schoolers were prepared for the reality of Johnson, Tejeda wasn't.

I beg all parents, do not send your kids to Johnson. They can't manage their student population, and because of that, nobody will care about your child's education. Nobody will care.

Great experience with teachers; accommodating with our extracurricular activities and take the extra mile to help us understand the lessons we miss. Very blessed to attend this high school!

Don’t be fooled by school ratings, especially on this site. We moved here several years ago and chose this area largely on the reputation of the schools in this district. After five years here we are thoroughly convinced the scores earned at this school have little to do with the effectiveness of the teaching and more to do with the affluent local population that puts more stock in school performance of their children. The previous school district we moved away from was more organized and put more attention into the students. Our child was hazed a great deal as a freshman, details that we didn’t learn until years later. Additionally, we encountered one of the worst teachers we could imagine. She taught level 3 of a foreign language and her incompetence, lack of fairness, and disorganization snuffed our child’s desire to pursue a fourth year of studying this language. With no explanation to parents from the school, this teacher missed several months in the middle of the year leaving the class to be taught by a rotating parade of substitutes.

Finally, the drug use is off the charts at Johnson, second only to their nearby rival, Reagan. It’s often said the only reason Reagan has a worse reputation is because their students can afford better drugs.

So as not to sound like a bit-picking parent with an axe to grind over isolated events that could happen anywhere, I acknowledge that the teachers mostly put forth a great deal of effort and do a good job. While we had a few bad experiences, we’d be wrong to say teachers here don’t care. I feel they are hampered by a convoluted daily schedule dictated by the school district and a student population that is too large. Likewise my child made many good friends who we are grateful for. I just want parents to think twice before being woo’d by high marks on websites like these. If we could do it over, we would have stayed right where we were years ago in a different school district. The grass wasn’t greener on this side.

There are too many students to lead effectively. There’s no doubt they try, but ultimately it’s impossible to have a thorough influence on the students.

My oldest hated this school and now his younger brother is beginning to as well. Teachers don't care, dont know what they're doing most of the time, play favorites, don't communicate with parents when there's an issue, administration lacks organizational skills, doesn't enforce the dress code, doesn't communicate with parents to resolve an issue, dishonest, lazy, and unfriendly.

Johnson High School provides an excellent learning environment for students. The quality of the teaching staff coupled with awesome high- tech classrooms make this school a must. The construction and appearance of the school enhances successful student achievement. Highly recommend this school!

I think their classes need to be more challenging. Too many movies are shown. The Spanish dept is not good, two years of Spanish A/B averages and my kid can't speak it at all. The teachers grade papers but don't give them back, what's up with that? There are some really good teachers here and some good administrators but overall it could be better...compared to other schools in other districts though they outshine them. ASL class is great, Forensic Science was excellent, all regular classes are below what I would want for a regular ed class and the AP classes are too rigorous...in that there is so much homework you can't be in any extra curricular classes, no time for them, which is sad. The band program is stellar can't say anything about that- it is great! Admin is good but they say AP is hard and is getting ready them for college but it is actually more work than college work would be. At the same time admin says make sure your kid gets 8 hours of sleep...huh? They are up til 2 doing AP homework...
Lastly, if your kid is an A/B student or even an all A student don't expect them to get into top schools...at Johnson you have to have an ABOVE 4.0 GPA to be in the top ten or even 7% because there are sooo many kids who take all AP courses. My kid has an A average, a mid A, and got into a good school but it was because of his SAT scores not his GPA.

I attended this school for four years and my experience was exceptional. I had many amazing teachers that successfully prepared me for college. There are so many options for classes, sports, and other extracurriculars for students and the band is amazing as well. Johnson made it possible for me to get a full ride to college because high expectations are put on the students achieve great things. I am grateful to have attended school here!

I have a daughter attending this school. She is a senior now and I would say thay this is one of the best highschools in the nation. They have an excellent teaching staff, they offer many different AP classes, and students get to customize their study program with a variety of endorsements. My daughter has taken the AP exams and gotten college credit. She will start college as a Sophomore.
Keep up the great work Johnson Highschool!

Math Department is bad....especially Algebra II Pre-AP. Algebra II is not taught well, and students are ill-prepared for quizzes and tests, as evidenced by the number of students that have to retake these. Homework is seldom returned, and grades are often posted late. Curriculum is poorly designed, and quizzes and tests are in formats different from the assigned homework. The administration says it is a difficult course, but if taught properly and in the correct order and format, this would not be the case. Pre-AP Chemistry teacher, Pre-AP English teacher, foreign language teacher and Pre-AP World History teachers are very good. Administration is not engaged enough. This school performs well largely because of the high quality students they get...

I have 2 students that attend Johnson and are honor students. We have been greatly disappointed in the quality of teachers at this school. Majority of the teachers really do not care about the students and have terrible attitudes. I am usually very supportive of teachers but my whole outlook has changed since moving here 2 years ago.

Claudia Taylor Johnson High School was new when my daughter attended and graduated 3 years later, and now I my son started there this year. Both have top notch educations, and supportive environments. Do not expect the teachers to coddle your child, and they are responsible to make arrangements for themselves! Their programs are amazing, and very competitive. I am happy to live in this area and are able to have my children attend CTJ.

AP classes need to be taught by top quality teachers that know their material and actually TEACH IN CLASS. There also needs to be consistency between teachers of the same subject. This is ongoing problem across all subjects. This is especially important in such a highly competitive school. Kids in AP classes want to truly learn and deserve to be "taught"; not teach themselves. An AP teacher telling students "if you want more study resources or a a review use the other teacher's webpage" is not acceptable. Neither is promising to "post" helpful resources than never doing it or hardly taking the time to review/accurately grade a student's project.

Academics needs to be improved. The Spanish program specifically is terrible which is a shame since this should be one of the school's high points considering we are in S. Texas with you would think highly qualified teachers!. Our oldest two children after three years of Spanish at JHS said "We haven't learned anything since we had Spanish at Tejeda..." In addition, why are coaches teaching AP classes? And Math has got to improve. We have spent literally thousands on tutors because the in class instruction is so poor.

Johnson High School is a fantastic school in NEISD. The teachers and administration are top notch educators doing the best things for students. There are plenty of extra-curricular activities so students can find their niche. We are so glad to be a part of the Johnson family.

We are blessed to live in the Johnson High School district! My daughter is a junior at Johnson High School, and I would highly recommend JHS to any parent seeking a quality, public school education for their child. The students at JHS are amazing; I have never witnessed anything like it, from their exceptional GPAs to their incredible sportsmanlike conduct in all areas of competition. It is quite obvious to me that the administration at JHS genuinely care about each student and are committed to continuing the tradition of excellence at Johnson High School.

Johnson High School is a fantastic NEISD school. I could have picked any location to live in San Antonio since I am a Realtor and my husband travels for work. I picked to live in the Johnson attendance zone because the school is top notch. I have a junior and a freshman attending and are both involved in the Spirit program. I have been greeted by very professional staff, eager assistant principals and the teachers have been responsive and terrific. I cannot say enough great things about Johnson High School. I wish I could give 10 stars!!!!

I am thankful that my niece attends Johnson as our experience has been very positive. While no school is perfect, all of my interactions with Johnson have been very positive. I have observed a staff of teachers and administrators who clearly care about their students and work well together to create an atmosphere for learning and maturing. The best attribute I can speak to is one of listening. They seek feedback, ask questions to further their understanding and then respond in an appropriate manner. Utilizing this approach I feel parents can be confident that Johnson will continue their effort in offering the very best High School experience for our young people.

Great school, love that my kids went there. They are very involved in the activities and school spirit. In reading some of these reviews that are poor for the school, it seems that they accused the school of letting them 'fall through the cracks', it's your fault not theirs. There are activities for all, find something you like and do it. If they don't have it, start it.

My daughter did very well at CTJHS and was happy while there. Yes, her math scores were not as high as we would have liked, but that is largely due to less effort towards math homework on her part. She was an active, key member of the band program and found all of her support and camaraderie through that department. Jarrett Lipman and Alan Sharps, band directors, did phenomenal jobs at keeping her competitive band life as balanced as it could reasonably during competition season with her regular school life. She made wonderful friends, traveled extensively with the band, took part in other extracurricular activities, and had four really good years. My son starts as a freshman at CTJHS this fall and we look forward to more school success. GO JAGS!

I honestly don't like this school. They have a big drug problem and the teachers and staff don't do anything about it. Nobody follows the dress code.

We recently arrived in the Johnson High School District, and we absolutely love this high school. As we prepared to move, my wife flew to San Antonio to find a house and research the schools. She called Johnson and was met by a member of the administration who gave her a full tour of the campus and an orientation of the academic and extracurricular activities. It was above and beyond. As we arrived in town, I took my son to the high school to join the summer conditioning program, and the head f-ball coach and athletic director spent a full 30 minutes with us. The majority of that time, he talked to my son about academics and character...with a sprinkling of football and wrestling information. They have their priorities right. We love this school, teachers, and administration.

I was a student at Johnson in the 2012-2013 school year, and from my time spent there I loved the school. I was a freshman and I can honestly can say I'm really happy Johnson is where I spent my first year of high school. It was a very bright, open environment. The architecture of the school was great, it had a very open feel. I took Pre-AP classes and I loved all of my teachers. If I needed assistance they were there to help. Contrary to other schools I'd attended, I didn't experience any racial problems. I made very good friends that I still communicate with although I live in a different city. I now attend an online school as a Junior, but if I had the choice to attend any high school, I would pick Johnson. Go Jags!

I don't know how this can be considered a high school. I only went here for a couple months and then decided to leave. The office staff is absolutely horrible. The dress code is not enforced what so ever so I saw girls walking around with shorts up their butts. Some teachers are better than others but for the most part mine were not that good. I would have loved to have gone to a school that actually focused on the academics and not the latest gossip, what people are wearing, and whoi has the most money. Often times I felt like I was being made fun of because I wasn't wearing all the same designer brands everyone else was wearing. If you actually want a good learning environment for your child do not send them here.

Johnson is a great school if you have a great student. However, there are few things available to those who aren't competitive in a specific area; if you're not a great athlete or musician, and you don't want to do JROTC, you have a good chance of falling through the cracks at this school. And there's too much money and temptations at this school to fall through the cracks without getting into a mess. They need more good programs and better teachers, especially in the technology area.

We just moved to Texas a few months ago. We found a beautiful house in the Johnson High school district. After reading all the negative reviews about the teachers and the staff I was nervous about sending my child to Johnson High. Coming in the middle of the year was a difficult adjustment for my child. My child was struggling in math and I contacted the math teacher Ms. Perez and she worked with my child after school and my child has completely caught up. So I am not sure why there are so many negative comments about the teachers. I have found the majority of the teachers to be wonderful. The office staff is a different story, they are rude and seemed bothered by having to do any type of work. This school has so much potential, I hope the parents become more involved.

The school's math department is the worst out of the whole district. They are very unorganized and do not report grades in a timely matter. Same goes with the chemistry department. These seem to be the only areas that need tremendous improvement.

I don't understand how some parents seem to have such a problem. None of my children had issues that went unaddressed. Morning tutoring is free at school and my children have taken advantage of it when needed in their years at JHS. Its a great school and I'm proud of my children and believe this high school has made/making them very ready for college. I checked a lot of reviews before moving to this area and I'm glad I didn't see these kind. I love my neighborhood and the schools here and feel blessed.

Principal is in way over his head. He will not deal with issues and then tries to cover up when administration gets involved. Very scary. He is more worried about being addressed as Mr. Disappointing to say the least. I would never recommend this school.

The math department at Johnson is lacking in a HUGE way! They do not teach at all, students are not prepared for any exams. I have had to pay for a turtor for 4 years (50.00 a week) to make up for the lack of teaching and preparation for my children. Some of the teachers have a good web page and send out emails and "talk a good game" but do not deliver! Your child will NOT be prepared for SAT/ACT if you rely solely on the Math Department at Johnson High School...very disappointing for a large school with HUGE funding!!

The principal at Johnson High School is such an amazing administrator. My child has had him since 6th grade. He is always open to suggestions and feedback. If we have had an issue he has addressed it right away. He is fair, unbiased and responsive. I like the way he uses common sense and calmness. Some of the parents at this school are a little rabid. He uses a no nonsense approach that is very appreciated!

So far I'm impressed with Johnson. It has very high academic standards and a group of very committed teachers that communicate well with parents. It may not be the easiest High School, but it gives students the best opportunity to be successful for college, life and the REAL world. I would not want my child anywhere else!

Johnson has gone from an 9 now down to an 8 and honestly I can see why! As a junior I have seen it change for the worst. There are far too many kids, and in one of my classes I had to wait days before I had a desk! The administration is rude and seems unbothered by their students problems. Schedule changes take weeks as well as class leveling. I have been involved in several different clubs and all seem to be extremely disorganized. I have been disappointed over and over. Although I have had some amazing teacher there were ones I felt were not qualified to be teaching the course. Nice Campus, but overall it is not even worth that 8 more like a 6 to me.

I am one of three members of my family to go to Johnson High School. It has some excellent qualities, but unlike the student below, I cannot state that it is "amazing." IMO, quite frankly, in several cases, teachers and administrators promise, but don't come close to delivering (and some just don't tell the truth at all). A lot of talk, very little action. Don't even get me started on such items as the school Web site, or any communication at all. Some teachers do a fantastic job in preparing you for such things as AP exams, others are clueless. From everything I hear, the JROTC program is a mess and best avoided (some fellow students complained about everything there). The actual counselors are very competent, but weird rules. One thing is for absolute sure: most administrators or teachers never get back to you, either in a timely fashion or ever, which is a hypocritical double standard as they sure expected us to turn things in on time. And they seem to all act like they are too busy, as if no one else on the planet actually works for a living. Always excuses. Also, while I'm no expert on the English language, can someone/anyone at this school actually spell-check? - Graduate

This school has the worst leadership I have ever experienced. Their response time is horrible and the principle does a whole bunch of talking when dealing with an issue but lacks substance or solutions. Don't even get me started on the spirit clubs-- The people running these programs were either the real unpopular ladies when they were in HS trying to prove something or they are trying to relive highschool through their girls. Either way it is pathetic! How the funding is handled for the extracurricular clubs is a mystery. And what is the success criteria for the school--- how many students have graduated and got accepted to or are going to AAU schools??? I would guess few but who knows because the joke of a principle is more concerned about baseball....... Enough said!

Right now i'm going to be a senior and I've been here since I was a freshman. I'm going to give you the whole truth from experience. There is one word to describe this school- AMAZING. Of couse there are little glitches, just like there are in every other school, BUT the students strive to succeed and the teachers give them tools to do so. Academicly, the school IS the best public school in San Antonio. Not only that, but the band, sport teams, dance, and rotc (and more) ARE one of the best in the state, if not, the country.

With all the PhD and Master's degree in Johnson High School, the only smart person that I encountered there is the school policeman. Our children might not have a good principal, assistant principals and teachers but by God we have the best policeman in NEISD serving the school. There's no rating for the policeman I would have given him 5 stars.
