We have had several kids attend Lamar and they have all had exceptional teachers each year, made solid friendships and have all done well academically moving forward.

My children adore their teachers and love going to school each morning. Lamar creates a fun and supportive environment to foster early learning.

Too many benchmark tests and emphasis on testing overall. Students are very aware of test scores and are asked to set goals for doing better each year. This is a very wealthy area and teachers are under pressure to have students achieve high scores to uphold property values. My children and their friends were afraid of many of the specials teachers and I can attest to hearing them rant and yell while I was on campus as a volunteer. On a whole it was a disappointing experience. If you are moving from another state be aware of what the STAAR testing is, current legislation to modify them and how your possible school approaches taking them. I found parents did not know much about them or if they did and had objections did not speak up.

PTO, teachers, and most importantly students are intimidated by the principal. General feeling of people not wanting to speak up to her. Last year the entire fourth grade was punished for being too loud in lunch. For weeks the principal stayed in the cafeteria and no speaking was permitted. Children that asked to use the bathroom missed five minutes of recess - sitting with her on a bench.

My children were in the GT program and teachers did not seem satisfactorily prepared for these differences. Children were simply taught at a faster pace which is not GT.

My child attended kindergarten at Lamar. She had a wonderful year, learned a great deal and is reading beyond her expected level. The teacher kept in contact with us and updated on behavior and progress. They had many activities for parents to participate in. I noticed many parents participating in the school events. Overall, we had a great experience and hope the next few years go just as well.

I love this school because of the diversity. My 9 year old attends Lamar and is learning a lot while also developing her creativity. The after school program provided by the YMCA is phenomenal. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL..

My son attends Lamar this year, and we could not be happier with the teachers and administration at this school. Every single staff member is very caring and they make sure the kiddos have the best possible school experience.

We moved to this school from a wonderful school system in another state. It has been an excellent transition for my other children who attend other schools, however, Lamar has been much more difficult. The faculty punish students for poor benchmark performance and give detention to students who do not perform well. The also give soda and candy to those who do well on practice STARR tests and ridicule those who do not. It's academically a good school but they test and prepare for the standardized testing so much that they lose focus and site of what is important.

LAMAR truly IS a great school. My husband and I are so happy with Lamar. My son loves Lamar and is doing very well there. All of the other parents in my neighborhood, really love Lamar, too. I know that, because (before enrolling my son)--- I would ask neighborhood parents and their children, "Do ypu like Lamar?". The answer was always an enthusiastic " We love Lamar!!!!" It's a great school.

I have two children attending Lamar, one entering second grade and one entering first grade. I have had very positive experiences with the teachers, the principal and the staff. It is a caring environment for the students but academically challenging as well. My kids are happy and secure at Lamar and I am very pleased.

My daughter loves her school and Miss Murphy is a great teacher ! She has helped her a lot with her transition from an out of country school to an american school. The principal was very nice with us as well as her staff . So , Thanks Lamar!

My son went here for kindergarten last year and I was not impressed. The teachers and administration for the most part were unfriendly and didn't seem as if they enjoyed their jobs very much. The principal and a few teachers can also be found across the street at the gas station during the school day smoking. I drove by one day and was shocked. What a poor example for children. The teacher complained about my son non-stop because he couldn't sit still very long. Go figure. He had just turned 5 right before school started. If you can avoid it, I think there are better schools!
