Henry Ford Academy Alameda School

The original principal, J Flores left this school. The English and math teachers that last year's Freshman and this year's Sophomores have he'd are ineffective for most of the students. There has not been any substantial support for the students who failed last year's Starr tests, or for students with IEPs. There is no PE or extracurricular athletics. We have been very, very disappointed with this school. Now that the school has moved lack parking makes it very difficult for parents to visit the school. There are lab facilities but for some reason the chemistry students have not had any labs. Although the school's charter declares a focus on innovation, they recently haven't even been able to keep up with the most basic educational requirements. PSAT tests were missed, meaning that that class missed the opportunity to qualify for National Merit Scholarships. Some teachers are good, but without math and English, this school is in trouble.I hope this school can bring, but I can't recommend it now.

This school is really great for the child who feels "less encouraged" in a traditional high school. Creativity is fostered and encouraged. Attending college is presented as a "non option". They are shown the many different undergrad options out there that will assist them in furthering their passions in the real world while collecting a paycheck for doing something they love! I wasn't real thrilled with the principal, Mr. Flores. He seemed to be a bit of an ego-maniac but he is gone now. The teachers seem to exhibit a real passion for the children and their success. They, alone with the administrative staff, have demonstrated complete competency the absence of a principal as they look for someone else and I look forward to an amazing senior year for my daughter in their new location!

Excellent school! The Principal is very involved and knows every student individually and makes sure they are each successful. The teachers truly want the students to succeed and go above and beyond to help them achieve success and graduate with confidence. Academics are excellent.

Fantastic school. The environment is relaxed enough to let creativity flow, while still upholding very high behavioral standards. My son has immensely enjoyed his first year there. Wonderful, helpful, understanding teachers. The focus on college right from the start is a great thing, makes the kids think beyond high school and helps them focus on the future. We're excited by the move to the old Alameda theater building...the school will be even more special!

HFA: Alameda School for Art + Design is San Antonio's only art and design high school focusing on strong academics, art and design.
