This school lacked in many categories, and I felt incredibly let down by the curriculum, the administration, and how they were with the student with accommodations. My daughter was autistic and needed extra help most of the time, and this school entirely lacked on provident a proper learning environment.

I had two kids go through this school. One that was academically driven, one not so much. Both of them ended up more than college ready. To the point where in some cases they were telling me that their high school teachers made college sound scary and when they got there, it wasn't as bad as they feared. One went on to graduate from UT. The other finishing up his degree in computer science. Teachers here do not get to participate in the state's Teacher Retirement System. That can cause some turnover. However, the teachers they bring in are great and helped both my kids be successful. Seems like they start the standard Texas High School requirements in the 8th grade. So by the time they are ready to graduate, they're college ready. When my kids were there, I didn't witness any bullying. The diversity of the school is a plus. The uniforms drove them crazy, but ultimately I think it was fine. If you want a quality education for you kids, I would wholeheartedly recommend this program. It isn't hyperbole to say that it changed the trajectory of my kid's life by attending.

This school was once great but has devolved over the years under the leadership team. The students are not learning the basics and are finding themselves often underprepared for college and struggling to catch up. The school has a few significant issues currently. 1. They are there to teach a political agenda. The students spend more time discussing political ideology than leaning their actual subjects. Particularly in the Maths in Sciences. If you student is interested in pursuing a degree in Engineering, Nursing, Medicine, etc. I highly recommend a school more focused on academics. 2. The faculty has an agenda to push and are more interested in being the students friends than actually teaching them. It is more common for a teacher to only give 3-5 assignments in a grading period than to actually stay on top of the subject. I had students in math and foreign language who would regularly only have 3-4 grades in a 9 week period. There are a number of instructors who actively bully other teachers and students opening including cyber bullying while leadership is aware of it and does nothing about it. Bullying is some of the worst we have seen. We removed out student from the school and went to public school in high school terrified for what that would mean and were shocked and the higher degree of learning and expectations on the students, the better social atmosphere etc. While the school touts IB principals they do not live up to the principals espoused at all. If you are looking for an IB education in Williamson County I highly recommend looking into the local public school system. Your student will be better prepared and more mentally healthy for it.

This school is academically challenging but that alone helps kids stay focused, steering them in the right direction, at all times.
The only thing we didn’t agree with is the way certain political agenda was pushed into our kid’s learning. We can all thrive and live in harmony, but please, do not push certain agendas to our kids. Kids should be able to choose for themselves whatever they’d like to think/believe. The school tends to lean towards the political left and while that may be good to some people, it’s not fair to all.
Academics is the only thing schools should be interested in teaching and so because of it, we are leaving. Thank you all that helped our kids thrive in the academic department, it has been a pleasure.

This school is very diverse and standouts from any other school.As being here for about 7 years this school has given us many opportunities.Yeah sure it is a small school, but that like I said earlier has ore opportunities to share ideas compared to some other school where you have to compete for a club you just have to find a sponsor which is very easy, and then you have your club.This school thrives academically, automatically you will be doing 1 year advanced math which they also teach the required TEKS for the grade you are in and the coming grade ahead.You also have an option of doing 2 years ahead of math (CBE) if you want to.Though their is not TAG or Honors program at this school.For those who question about the teachers they are AMAZING!!No joke they seriously help any student at any level in academics THRIVE with students who I know went from C's to all A's.To mention all the Teachers are very qualified with PHD's and teaching certifications.Overall this School is a wonderful School and can't believe what I can do next!

I could not be happier. I have two children who have graduated, they are thriving in college. They were so well-prepared for the rigors of reading, writing and studying independently in college. They thought it was tough when they were there, but now, they recognize how much they learned. They have personal relationships with teachers who were true mentors to them. After years of foreign language study, they are proficient. If your goal is for your high achieving students to get a top rated education, Meridian is the place to be in our area.

The overall homework and study load at this school has far exceeded what is necessary, especially in high school where some students spend an average of 4 hours a night on homework. The amount of homework given in addition to an 8 hour school day makes for a 10-11 hour work day for the students. The pace at which this homework is given is also problematic. This is because, before progress reports and the end of the semester, many of the major assignments are crammed into a single week, causing students to have copious amounts of work at a single time that often cannot be worked on beforehand.

Although some of the teachers at this school are exceptionally motivated and caring, others disregard the needs and health of their students by assigning excessive amounts of homework in a single week despite the direct communication of the students. Although there steps being made towards spreading out the workload, this problem is still very present in the lives of students.

Any attempts to develop attributes such as integrity, compassion, and respect (or any of the learner profiles) in the students have been consistently feeble. The teachers and administration do not stress the importance of kindness among other important attributes and have neglected to integrate these life lessons into academic lessons. One occurrence that I have noticed is that Meridian world will advertise the use of the learner profiles to appeal to parents looking for a place for their child to grow academically and as a person. However, the learner profiles are rarely mentioned in the classroom. Quite frankly, if Meridian continues to talk the talk, they need to walk the walk as well.

The administrative leadership in this school is unquestionably broken. Many of the teachers hired only remain here for a year or two and many are underqualified. Some of the teachers are very knowledgeable in the subject that they teach but have little teaching experience and do not have the proper certifications, causing confusion in many classrooms. There is a severe lack of communication between the teachers and administration resulting in an unstable learning environment for students. Lastly, the principal and the headmaster of this school do not have the required credentials, resulting in unfair and inadequate leadership that directly affects the students and their education.

As a student who has attended Meridian for a total of 6 years, I have experienced the advantages and disadvantages of being a Meridian student. I have remained in this school with the hope that changes would be made; however, year after year, I have been consistently let down by a corrupted system and inadequate leadership. We left Meridian after one year. I cannot overstate how bad our experience was with our daughter there. She displayed all manner of learning disabilities, yet the school refused to acknowledge them because she didn't fall under the dyslexia umbrella. They suggested tutoring (she was in 3rd grade and was being tutored 4 hours a week...2 privately and 2 by the school) and was STILL not succeeding. Their advice was for her to 'try harder'. We wound up paying $3500 for external testing that the school should have provided...which indeed indicated substantial but manageable learning disabilities. We left Meridian and transitioned to a superior public school. In two years, she has caught completely up and is a straight A and model student. Meridian should have been held accountable for not servicing our child (or any kids with learning differences). Had I known of agencies to report the school to at that time, I would have done so.

The Principal was fully aware that we were having learning challenges and did nothing to intervene. As has been mentioned, Meridian doesn't care if a student leaves....they have a wait list and just move to the next child instead of addressing core problems with their school.

My experience at this school has been very close to terrible, it causes me so much stress and I have almost no outside life because of it. I would never recommend coming to this school in middle or high school. The IB diploma is so far out of reach and is almost impossible to get.

As a STUDENT myself, this school gives us excessive amounts of homework in middle and high school. Students like myself are up late working on homework, and it almost gives us no opportunities for extra curricular activities. The homework load is extremely unbalanced, meaning that it consumes out outside lives with family and friends.

Most of the teachers are only at the school for 3 years at the most. They leave the school and new teachers without experiences of teaching IB fill in for them next year. This year in 2018, at least two of my teachers have left in the middle of the school year, and we had one long term sub fill in for both of the teachers who left. Some of the teachers are passionate about their jobs, but most of them do not seem to have much care for the environment.

This school is almost exactly like a regular public school, except there are less kids and expensive uniforms. There have been issues with drugs at this school, as well as violence coming from the students. There is not much respect among the students.

Very disappointing; all hype; secondary Principal is not to be trusted. Very creepy leadership overall and the school is controlled by gatekeepers who keep parents from being too involved and talk amongst themselves about students and parents

pros: there is no violence, no gang issues, the kids wear uniforms so there is no inappropriate clothing, and they do teach a very world-wide view, with all subjects being interconnected. There are also some very great teachers there. cons: the math program is a joke (I highly recommend investigating Everyday Math prior to sending ones children there). They are completely unresponsive to criticism and are more than willing for families to leave, since they know (as of now, at least) there are plenty of people waiting to take their spot (there is a long waitlist, there is also high turnover). They allow no parents in the classes outside of 3 one-hour "party" times a year-this, in the head of primary's own words, is "so parents don't gossip about other kids" which I think is a very dim view to take of parents at her school, and pretty indicative of her opinion about parents in general. They have a very high percentage of new teachers every year, since many teachers leave after their first year. In our 3 years there with 3 kids all 3 years, only 2 of the 9 teachers who taught them weren't new. And there are startlingly, noticeably few Hispanic or African-American students.

There are a few outstanding teachers, but most of the staff stays a year or two and leaves. High turnover means the teachers are constantly "new" to the IB program, and not very effective.

Excellent staff and teachers. They keep parents involved in what is going on and in kids education in general. I think that is a positive and not a negative. parents are not forced to but they want to be a part of their kids life and this amazing school. Kids are taught from early on on how to be thinkers and problem solvers and not just focus on how to score well in tests. I love this school. we are fortunate to be a part of MERIDIAN community. Have you seen the wait list to get in?!! We can reassure you that this is where the highly educated and in-demand teachers are. They are able to teach children what they learned in school, not just how to take "The Test. " There is a wonderful community of parents and volunteers working with the teaching staff to support the students. The staff is motivated, approachable, happy, positive, respectful and excited about the IB curriculum. Meridian is not your typical school. They teach more than the basics. Think of the entire school as an "AP" class. It is very hands on with a lot of parent involvement. We are very happy with the school and can't wait to see it continue to 12th grade.

Both of my children attend Meridian. We are thrilled with the education they are getting. The IB curriculum is very rigorous, yet allows for tons of creativity! They are truly being challenged to think about big issues from a global perspective, thus broadening their world view. What a great skill to take forward into life, understanding and respecting different perspectives!

Meridian is a great school. Both my kids attend Meridian. The Secondary teachers are as good as they come. They are so dedicated to the students and their success. It is a great place to send your kids. The curriculum is challenging and the kids work hard for their grades. If your child is not challenged or bored where they are now, this is where they should be. All classes in secondary are simular to AP classes since it is an IB school. The courses are hard but they learn alot. Homework most nights and catching up on the weekend for one of my children. Both my kids love it at Meridian and are thriving.

My children have been attending this school from when it first opened. We came from an excellent school with excellent teachers in RRISD (TAG program), but I was looking for a school with the International Baccalaureate Curriculum. I love the community at Meridian. Parents are engaged and teachers are extremely dedicated. Even though this school is in its infancy, it managed to achieve PYP Authorization in a record 2 years. They are awaiting their DP status and the school's goal is to be an IB continuum K-12. (Currently only 4 schools int he state of Texas are IB continuum schools. RRISD for example offers the program but leaves out years 9 and 10. I also love that we do not spend the 3rd nine weeks prepping for the STAAR. The students also take the Stanford Achievement test. If you want to school where your child is going to be taught how to think and inquire about further learning, then this is the school for you. If you want a school that is going to give you handouts and rote learning, then look elsewhere. You do have to engaged as a parent. I find my kids are challenged and that teachers are VERY DEDICATED and KNOWLEDGEABLE. I also like the smaller community.

The leaders have done an amazing job on focusing on IB and simply getting such a large school launched and running. The teachers we have had have been super nice although overwhelmed and too busy "learning IB" to focus on individual needs. Lastly, the parents are invested in their children's education - they had to apply and then commit to driving each day, etc - it is invaluable to be a part of such a community. However, we pulled our children out after two years for the following reasons: 1. Large gaps in curriculum, especially in science 2. Absolutely no interest in TAG/differentiation - which left our kids bored and eventually lazy 3. A prevailing, "If you don't like it, leave" message/attitude which felt both condescending and dismissive. This is from administration. 4. No school on Wed afternoons to accommodate IB faculty development - which adds up in lost academic time We felt as if we had "lost ground" with both children who had been excelling previously and we don't have the luxury of spending more time to see if the school would catch up in its gaps (which I believe they eventually will; they have a committed leadership and parent community).

This school has been the perfect fit for my child and we are thrilled to be a part of it! This is our third year and we have had excellent teachers each year. I like the International Baccalaureate program and the ability for each student to succeed at their given level. The small, private school atmosphere is a bonus! Yes, drop-off and pick-up can be challenging. No, we do not have complete access to the classroom while school is in session. Yes, I am required to work with my student on homework and give her help in areas (but we haven't needed a tutor). This is a CHOICE. It may not be for every child, but it is definitely for us!

Meridian is a public Charter school that follows the International Baccalaureate Program. Meridian is the vehicle realized by several Williamson County families that worked together with the goal of offering an education that will bring a love of learning to the classroom for their children and yours. Meridian is a school of 'choice' offering an inquiry-based curriculum. This school is an amazing alternative to standard public school education, allowing each child the opportunity to learn in a way that is comfortable and challenging all at the same time. With only 770 students, K-10, it gives that small school feel with big school options. We have loved having our daughters attend the past 2 years and enjoy seeing the way the school continues to grow and adapt each year.

This is our second year at Meridian and our child, despite some behavioral issues, continues to thrive. We feel that the caring and perceptive teachers are there because they love learning and they love children. IB is challenging and isn't for everyone, but it's an amazing program that challenges kids to do their best.

Since education is not a one-size fits all, it is nice to have an option that is not a private school or a parochial school. Our family is happy to have our student at Meridian. While he started out a bit behind, after a full year, he was able to be to complete the assigned work and has since done well in middle school. It may not be a school for everyone as there are many conveniences that are lacking - like bus pick-up. But it is a charter school and I understand that they do not receive as much money as the regular public schools do. That's why they fundraise and have a strong volunteer program. I am not able to volunteer much time, and no one has ever hassled me about it. The elementary classes do expect parents to spend time with their child during the week doing homework - but they are given choices and a week to do it. So it does take parental involvement - but it's for my child, and I get to understand what he is doing in class. The school seems to be attracting teachers with experience, even experience with the International Baccalaureate program - so they are coming to Meridian. That speaks well of the school and the leadership and it's goals.

I pulled my children because 1) lack of a rigorous elementary education 2) too much money and time demanded from the parents in order to sustain attendence 3) At one point I was told that "they" ( other district public schools) don't teach things like spelling and grammar anymore- when I went to mine I discovered OH YES THEY DO Meridian just chooses not to 4) the grading system. The student receives a check mark if it looks like he worked on his homework - the answers can be wrong but checked write if it looks like they tried 4) their use of the Everyday Math program. Its a spiral curriculum that does not encourage mastery of skills, just exposer to them. Most parents hire private tutors to teach what the curriculum lacks. 5) I feel my children lost 2 years of quality learning in order to wear a uniform to school and chant IB learner characteristics.

We left an outstanding Round Rock school to attend Meridian and we could not be happier. I tell my friends that attending Meridian is like attending a private school for free ... although it is better than a private school because private schools (like regular public schools) are driven by the desire to score well on standardized tests. Meridian does not focus on the STAAR test. We do not do regular benchmarks and our kids don't do STAAR prep worksheets as part of regular instruction. Instruction is organized around large thematic units (central ideas) where kids spend time asking questions, thinking critically and creatively, problem solving individually and in groups, etc. In the end, the goal is to take some kind of action as a result of what was learned. My kids love school and they have had some of the most outstanding teachers I have ever encountered in my 17 years experience as an educator. Our extra-curricular and athletic programs are evolving at a healthy pace. The after school program is high quality. School lunches are more expensive than regular public school lunch but the food is freshly prepared by chefs at the Studio Kitchen; no processed / frozen foods.

This was our first year at Meridian and we absolutely love it! I really liked the public school my children were previously enrolled in but the difference between that school and Meridian is like night and day. Meridian has truly helped my children reach their full potential and the teachers and staff there could not be any more nurturing to my children. Changing schools was a hard decision for us but definitely the best one we have ever made.

Both my kids attend this school. We can not be any happier with the school staff, philosophy and the teaching methods. Being a new school with IB curriculum, they have been trying their best to hep the kids stay on the top and each teacher and other staff members care about the future of the kids. Unlike a lot of other schools, they don't prepare the kids to get higher scores to get better rating for school, but their orientation is towards making the kid succeed in all areas. The teachers are focused on bringing out the best in each kid by doing everything to help the kids learn the concepts effortlessly and in a creative way so they don't have to try hard to memorize the concepts learned. The after school program (called AAA enrichment) is the best after school program that my kids ever attended (they teach Chess, Yoga, international languages (Spanish, Hindi..etc) and so many other fun and creative activities). I am very happy to share that this school has very talented, caring, patient, creative, supportive staff whose goal is to give best possible education experience to kids. I can keep going but having to stop due to limitation on number of characters allowed
