Teachers have no control of the kids behaviors. My child has gotten spit on, with no known repercussions. When your child comes home and tells you they are not learning anything…it speaks volumes. Teachers quitting/being fired, and long term subs quitting, bc they cannot handle the kids. I’m sad for my kids elementary experience.

Ours son's first year at Reed was extraordinary. The outstanding leadership at this school starts at the top with Principal Collier. I believe our family saw her at every extracurricular event over the past year. Her passion for education and community shined like a beacon of light for all through out the 2022 - 2023 school year. I observed that she knew every student and most of the parents by first name - and most importantly, the compassion that she exemplifies was found in my interactions with each and every teacher and staff member that I interacted with throughout the year, including Mrs. Swanson our son's teacher. As a local real estate agent, I often see families make decisions on what neighborhood to move into based on the ratings of this website. One would most certainly miss out on a true gem if they didn't actually take the time to look more closely at the qualities that Reed Elementary and all of the staff stand for, and observe the impact of true change that they're making in the world. A school is only as strong as the families and staff that support it - and the ratings on this website seem meaningless after experiencing the blessing of our Reed Elementary School family over the last year.

Our kid is in Reed elementary for 3 years now. School and teachers are great so far. I am surprised that rating is not as high as I would expect.

My daughter loves her school! She’s had incredible teachers and we love the dual language and leader in me programs. I love that we can walk to school and be immersed in so many different cultures and languages. The newer principal has done a great job with improving behavior.

This school is an absolute mess. They cannot control the behavior of the students and there is constantly bullying. Teachers are not properly supported to deal with children with major behavior problems. When your child moves to middle school they will be behind. It is amazing how poorly these kids are prepared for middle school.


The 5 start reviews are parents/teachers/admin trying to increase their scores.

5 stars. I’ve had just a few unpleasant moments. But the good definitely outweighs the bad.
The amount of racism on previous comments is just untrue. My kids love their school.

They give daily reading, effective amount of work, without overloading young kids.

My oldest has been in this school for 3 years and my youngest for 2. The amount of educational growth from 1 year to the next is amazing. They effectively push the kids to surpass the average levels on every subject.

Yes. My daughters enjoy singing their leadership song about the “7 habits”
... they love their teachers every year. Their staff is great at dealing with incidents with students, and keeping parents informed.

The leadership at this school is lacking. The principal and staff are apathetic. They punish the white kids for the smallest infractions but the Hispanic kids are out of control and they don't do anything. The Hispanic children know this and bully the other kids in the open with little to no reprimands. I've witnessed this on multiple occasions. My child has gone from being a gifted student to being withdrawn and anxious about having to go to school.

It seems they are trying to 'help' but it's all just a bunch of band-aid fixes.... They don't really help kids overcome disadvantages. and sometimes, dis-advantages are manufactured. It's dangerous to trust them as 'experts' in student services. Kids don't learn how to live without the crutches the 'student services' have imposed on them....
eventually they're going to fail because of them.

FLAT OUT ZERO. Kids are behind on their subjects, not prepared for middle school. Lots of preferential treatment of Hispanics. There seems to be a focus on numbers which would aid the schools ability to get funding... (more economically disadvantaged, more free lunches, more student services)

Teachers cannot discipline in their own classrooms. They call behavior managers who already have their hands full dealing with disruptive kids.

They work to build up the economically disadvantaged and let them get away with most everything ... but they consider the other kids 'privileged' and do very little for them.

This is an incredible school, I've waited a full year to give my impressions but I can say that I cannot be happier about this place, the faculty and staff.
Over the course of a year, we've had, science & math nights, running club, a carnival, a memorial race, book swaps and many more events that promote, not only education and a healthy lifestyle, but also family integration.
The school philosophy revolves around the "Leader in Me" book, this is not something taken lightly, the 7 habits are posted everywhere inside the school and the kids have that mindset now embedded on them, this alone is great and I'm sure it will create successful adults.
My kid is on the dual language program and is completely fluent in Spanish and English, both teachers are amazing, caring and compassionate.
I am part of the Watch D.O.G.S program and I've seen first hand that there's always many parents involved and volunteering for events, reading, the library, etc. The PTA funded field trips and incredibly, shade structures for the 2 playgrounds of the school. Again, great community.
Finally, the cherry on the pie is the diversity of the school's population, being part of the Austin metro area, this is somewhat expected, but the fact that from Pre-K to 5th grade, the kids interact, learn and play with kids from different backgrounds in life can't be anything but beneficial for them.
I love the school, I am a proud Road Runner parent.

1) Unsafe - violence runs rampant with administration more concerned about sweeping things under the rug than effectively dealing with or curbing the violence.
2) Socioeconomic demographic leans heavily to low income. Reed has one of the highest rates of economic disadvantaged in the district. This comes with a set of problems most parents don't or won't want to deal with at the elementary level.
3) Awful results - the test scores and the # of people leaving every year speak for themselves.

My daughter has attended Reed for three years. She loves her school. We have had such experienced, caring, knowledgeable teachers who have become like family. My daughter loves learning, has been appropriately challenged, and has grown in her character and leadership skills thanks to this school.

Reed is a great school! The teachers are caring and communicative. The campus works on academics while also emphasizing leadership and community skills. The student body is diverse which is indicative of real world experiences. My kids love Reed!

Students are taught to think through solutions using the Seven Habits of Highly Successful People which help develop their empathic and cooperative abilities.

This is a great school that teaches The Seven Habits to all grades from PreK- 5th. Kids come home talking about putting "first things first" and thinking "win- win" which are concepts many adults still struggle with. The teachers and staff are excellent and I feel my children are receiving a top notch education.

We've had children at this school since it opened, and love it. All the teachers have had great communication with us, and seem to be very hands-on with our kids. Not sure what I would change, if anything.

We have had an excellent experience with Reed. It is a brand new school and they have only had one year of test results. I would rate the school much higher than the first year of test scores may reflect. The community and available resources are stellar. I am amazed at the level of parent involvement we have seen. There are always parents willing to step up and help build a great school. I believe that is the first indicator of successful children. Additionally the teachers are highly engaged and caring. I have seen them take a personal interest in my daughter's learning and ensure she has the tools to succeed.

My daughter has attended this school since it's opening and loves every minute. The teachers are amazing and caring. The learning environment is positive and productive. The class environment is organized and conducive to learning at a top level. I highly recommend this school for parents who want their children to excel and have the resources to do so.
