I would not recommend Housecreek Elementary based on my experience as a parent.

My child had one excellent first-grade teacher here, certified, passionate, and truly invested in teaching. Unfortunately, after that year, our experience declined significantly. The quality of education has been inconsistent and, in many cases, lacking. Parents should be prepared to teach their children approximately 90 percent of the material at home, because unless your child is fortunate enough to be assigned a teacher who is properly trained and effective in the classroom, they will not receive the level of instruction they need.

Even more concerning is that my child has been repeatedly targeted since second grade. In one incident, a teacher admitted in writing that although she did not witness my child do anything, she assumed he was responsible simply because she saw him walking by and he did not respond when questioned. Despite bringing this to the assistant principal’s attention, the only outcome was an apology, no corrective action, no accountability, just an apology from the teacher admitting she was wrong and the principal stating that the situation should not have been handled that way.

At this point, I also began to question whether skin color may have been a factor in how certain situations involving my child were handled. This concern is not raised lightly. I have received multiple apologies from both teachers and the assistant principal regarding the handling of incidents involving my child , so many that I felt it necessary to begin documenting them. Enough is enough.

Additionally, class sizes are far too large for one teacher, making it nearly impossible to adequately supervise students or provide meaningful instruction. This environment allows assumptions to be made instead of facts being verified, which is unacceptable.

Because of the lack of educational quality, repeated mishandling of situations, and inadequate administrative response, we are relocating. Something has clearly changed at this school, and not for the better.

My advice to parents is to research and verify the credentials of your child’s assigned teacher. It truly matters and can make or break your child’s educational experience.

I am of the opinion that schools aren't responsible for this...Parents are.

They do not have a heavy homework load. It is quite reasonable for elementary school children. Also, the homework helps to involve less-involved parents in their children's school lives.

My daughters have been attending this school for over 3 years, and they enjoy it. I do have to agree with some of the concerns in a couple of the other reviews such as the ridiculous lunch light and confusion from the teachers, aids, and ladies in the office about events/situations. However, my daughters have loved their teachers, and, as a parent, I have never had any issues with anyone outside of the school nurse who pretty much seems to believe a sneeze is grounds for a doctor's visit. She is the most to-the-rulebook nurse I have ever met. For the most part, the teachers take the time to explain concepts to the children and they provide extra assistance when needed. At one point my eldest did have an issue with a teacher because, according to her, he was not helping her when she needed the help. I confronted the teacher and we discussed the issue. My daughter and he sat down and had a chat about the problem, and I've heard from both of them separately that they are working together much better now. Overall, it is a fine school, and I recommend it.

The great teachers. Very supportive of military families especially with students who have special needs.

It was not a very organized place to work. Administration placed a huge amount of unnecessary paper work on the teachers plates and discouraged team work. It had a very negative environment due to administration and the main instructional coach. I felt sorry for first year teachers who received no help or coaching from those in leadership. The Librarian was the only one who offered genuine help to those who came to her. The looks on their faces had despair and desperation to try to make it through the year.

This is the worst school my children have ever been to! The teachers are not helpful or cooperative with parent involvement. They want NO parent involvement it seems. The schools rules about lunch room behavior is absurd. Kids have very little time to eat and relax, but they are not relaxed because of the traffic light in the room. If they talk this light changes colors, then the kids have to stop and point at the light and put a bubble in their mouth (try doing that while EATING) then if it's not quiet enough still this light goes to red and a loud siren sounds (loud enough that the lunch ladies wear ear plugs, but obviously they don't care if it hurts our kids ears) at this point the vice principal takes the kids recess from them so they can practice being quiet. Then they wonder why the kids are not focused in class. PTA only wants to sell you stuff, should be called Avon. There is no parent inclusion, updating or working with parents and teachers. They just sell junk, and have pta meetings to discuss next year's elections. Award ceremony every grading period is a joke. Every kid gets a reward. Seriously what is that teaching them? This school sucks. avoid it if possible.

This school has some wonderful caring teachers. The teacher's aids appear to be of low education and are confused about their roles. They don't seem to really want parents around, volunteering and otherwise. Some of the drop off/ pick up rules are strange. Admin's main priority is to their union, no parent input will be considered. Other parents complain about not enough help or no help for their special needs children. The good teachers make up for the negatives though I feel.

Exellent school and great teachers. Great parent involvement and school programs. Very supportive of military families.
