Dedicated teachers, challenging course load, the tests and homework for onlevel is at pre ap level. Students are committed and geared towards studying hard. Definitely a competitive school.

HW is well balanced and geared towards learning, some of the projects are indepth and college level. It would be good if the school can cut down on using laptops as the kids tend to get distracted on the device.

A select few entitled teens who need disciplining from time to time, as is the case in any highschool private or public, but I feel the school fosters a healthy environment for all. Parents are often at fault when kids act up-not the school in my opinion.

Savio does absolutely nothing to help students that are being bullied. They prefer to punish the victim instead of dealing with the bully.

St Dominic Savio has distinguished itself as one of the top schools in the area. Academically, it is highly competitive. This year s class had 10 students recognized as National Merit scholars, a feat made even more amazing given the fact that the graduating class is just under 100 students. From an extracurricular standpoint, Savio has just about everything you'd want. It has a great music/theater program, it has several academic teams and clubs, and it has a competitive athletics program. The school has won a state championship in softball, is highly ranked in baseball, and has had several deep playoff runs for volleyball and both girls and boys basketball. Last, but not least, Savio is a school that is grounded in Catholic values. Students go to weekly Mass and attend Adoration regularly; the school sponsors retreats other spiritual events; there are Catholic clubs; and the school has a major focus on community service. The environment at the school is a positive one where everyone is welcome. Students are assigned into "families" when they start the school and the name is a perfect fit, because the student and parent community at the school feels like a family.

My son has been very pleased with Savio. There is nice sense of community here and the Catholic identity is great. The Academics are good - some very strong teachers especially in Math and History. He has two teachers this year with PhDs and most of the rest are bright with Master's degrees. The music program is very good (state champion three years in a row). Students seem to love the fine arts program, and it helps strengthen the HS community. With so many award winning extracurricular activities (Robotics, Jazz Band, Math team, Yearbook and dozens more) and strong girls sports programs - the students are spread pretty thin as many do four or more activities. Dr. Wagner, the president of the school is very experienced and should be able to guide the new principal well. The weaknesses are the obvious ones - as the school continues to grow there may be the normal scheduling and overcrowding problems for the next few years, and there are fewer course options than at huge public school (they do have almost enough AP classes already though) and boys sports (except for basketball and baseball) need improvement - the school is bigger and has to compete at a much higher level.
