Had two kids at this school, first one when it was located at NW Military and it was totally different ( better education overall) when I placed my second kid at the new location everything got extremely different to the point that had to take my child to a different school after 6 months of being there. Dont want to get too much into it but the experience was not the best

My daughter has attended this school since kindergarten, and as a child on the spectrum, her early years were challenging. However, the staffs dedication and support have made a remarkable differenceshes now in 2nd grade with no major behavioral issues and continues to make great progress. The school fosters a safe, caring environment where bullying isnt tolerated, and students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. I truly appreciate how the school is shaping its students for a bright and successful future.

I as a parent of a former student commend the student who wrote their own, very personal review of this school. We had a very similar experience to a T. I have a former student who was both gifted and has adhd and this school was not equipped to provide the support my child needed. And it was very difficult to see a bright and curious child turn into a quiet child. It might be a good school for a student who has no special needs or just wants to be molded into a non creative, non thoughtful child that blends into the beige of society, but if you want more for your student, this is not the school for you. The school also has unresolved bullying issues that have spanned for several years.

I never had the displeasure of graduating from this school, but if I had the honour of writing a graduation speech, here's what I'd write:

There were 4 cliques for the entirety of my attendance, the popular guys in sports, the popular girls in sports, the guys who made 'edgy' jokes, and the weird 'girls' who were into art. I'm sure you can tell which clique I was part of. There were ~50 students in every grade so everyone knew everyone, kind of. I was one of the very fortunate kids that was technically part of a clique but was unmistakably an outsider. For as long as I can remember, all I've wanted is to part of a close friend group and have the praise of my teachers and peers. To achieve this, I repressed my personality and all of my emotions to be the kind, quiet, and above all else, obedient student. This did not in fact achieve my dreams of being the best.

Every teacher without exception was one of the worst to me specifically. None of them ever harassed me, they did something much worse to my attention craving self, ignored me completely. This confused and frustrated me. So, I doubled down on not having emotions, eventually it got to the point I was apathetic towards most things in my life. I genuinely believed myself to be a robot incapable of human connection and emotion.

At one point, I realized how bad my mental state was. I started trying to talk to my friends about my mental health. I started trying to open up to my teachers. All of them dismissed my cries for help because of how calm and collected I appeared. I often would walk in on my 'friends' gossiping about how wrong I was about my own mental health. As if they knew more about my mind than I did.

Later, in my school career I developed 2 conditions: chronic pain and complex PTSD. During classes, I would often have debilitating pain flare ups in class and suffered delusions of my dead twin brother screaming at me how much better he would have done in my position. I knew on some level he wasn't real, but I agreed with his remarks. Of course, my teachers and peers did nothing to help me. At best I'd get fear for my health and at worst I was ridiculed. This is what finally caused my parents to take me out if this school.

My time spent here was some of worst in my life. If you live a stereotypically perfect American life, send your kids here. I hear there's great education. If not, be prepared for apathetic teachers and the worst social atmosphere in the state.

Overall, EKHLA has been a great fit for our family. I'll offer a few pros/cons that have been relevant to our experience. I do not suggest all parents have felt/observed this and recommend you speak to current/former parents and educators before forming an opinion:

Pros
- Small school
- Vast majority of parents, educators & admin are invested in the success & happiness of the students
- 2nd language (Hebrew) required at the elementary level
- Proud Israeli culture program
- Religious diversity: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Aethists send their kids to EKHLA. I'm sure there are more I'm not aware of.
- My kids have not experienced or witnessed bullying
- We have always felt safe. Lots of thought/$ invested in kids' safety

Cons
- Athletic program & leadership is not good. The athletic director is disorganized, unclear in her communications, and seems to have too many responsibilities to run a strong program. She also happens to be a close, personal friend of the principal/superintendent so there may be some favoritism at play. There is no bussing to games, no field to have outdoor on-site practices, and limited sports are offered. Having a child in this sports program has been nothing short of frustrating.
- Because it's a small school, extras are expensive. Trips, sports, etc.
- Extracurriculars are limited

An excellent balance of great academics and rigorous school work while still allowing kids to be kids and not have hours upon hours of homework every night. Big projects are mostly completed in the classroom, and it seems like the teachers do a great job at pacing the kids work so they don't get overwhelmed.

I am a twice exceptional parent (2e) which means a child that is both gifted and has a disability (ADHD). EKHLA does not have the proper support, either academically or emotionally/socially, for 2e children; they do not have an adequate special education program for children that are gifted and have disabilities. The strict and rigid environment both in the school's culture and academics does not allow gifted children to flourish. If you have a gifted child and/or a 2e child, EKHLA is probably not the right environment for you. They also have a systemic bullying problem amongst the students.

Love that they teach Hebrew and about Israel and love the advanced curriculum. I removed two stars because of how they treat people with disabilities. They didn't have a special education department when l was there and threatened to expel me due to my autism, and when I was diagnosed with autism, the principal/superintendent did not believe the diagnosis, thus the school hired a psychologist to prove that l did not have autism. Lo and behold, I was still autistic.

Academics are priority, kindness is also important at EKHLA. Families are not as welcomed on campus as other schools, but that is more safe for our children! Safety is a top concern.

My children have been in this school since kinder. I currently have one in high school and one still in elementary school. They are both doing amazing both educationally and socially. We are forever grateful for EKHLA and its staff.

Not what i expected, parents have no place or saying in this school, they are not fair or impartial when recommending either awards or punishments everything is based on who gives what.

Not the school I experienced back in 2016 where teachers just to care about the students and were professional, educated and respectful towards students regardless of their background. There is a favoritism issue and want to mark kids that are doing the right thing like its something wrong to do. Dont care what parents have to say and ignore your inputs and make decisions to support their teachers even when there is proof and found guilty of favoritism towards other students.

I do not recomend this school because,the classrooms are small and everything is so disorganized.Even the office has alot of empty boxes.If you are not as academically smart in this school they hold you back and that is nowhere near fair.The principal is extrmely rude and is always getting in peoples business.This is school is also is better of without teaching hebrew becuase its basically symbols.There is one technology teacher who says the students have a bad atitude, even though she has one herself,and what type of school starts on August 11th but ends when its basically Summer.(It ends in in JUNE 2nd)

My daughter has attended EKHLA since Kindergarten. This school is challenging and you will have to be involved more if your child struggles. (Not for you if you like teachers to do everything). My daughter struggled in 4th grade and was held back. I do not blame the school and she does so well academically now. I think she has grown more confident. Its more important for her to learn at a pace shes comfortable with. I personally like the principle. Old school and stern. I love this school and its ranked 2nd best charter school in San Antonio. I personally think its been a blessing to have a great education and not have to pay tuition. Hope this was helpful.

Disappointed. The extra amenities at EKHLA are very minimal and costly and the solution for students who are struggling is being held back. The academics are good, but I am not sure that justifies the low quality of everything else.

There is quite a bit of homework and a lot of the homework system requires students to be organized and doesn't require so much effort from teachers. Lots of different homework folders and no one checking to make sure students have their HW.

There are some teachers who are great at communicating and can tell that they are concerned for students success and others who seem like they don't care and dont do much to help even after meeting/discussing issues.g

Since we are in quarantine, the definition of "homework" has changed. EKHLA distance learning environment has been supportive and caring. The teacher communicates with students and parents regularly. IT support has been awesome. Before the outbreak of the COVID19 virus, EKHLA proved it was a top school. Going through and changing the learning environment to a distance learning environment EKHLA has excelled. I have a second grader and an eighth grader.

The school is on a new campus. The community had growing pains in adjusting to traffic differences. Leadership has been a champion. The principle and vice principles have done a stellar job in helping our students feel safe and welcomed on the new campus. Bravo Mrs. Davis-Cohen, Mrs. Smith,

EKHLA teaches all students to be responsible, and to try to stay organized. Home work is reasonable. At the lower grades it's as easy as bringing home something to sign. Home work is manageable and is teaching kids responsibility, and life long skills. It is not more than 20-25 minutes daily.

My son was bullied and the Principal dismissed it saying no evidence was found after the coach admitted he saw physical contact, he just wasn't aware it was unwelcomed.

Have two children for 5 years, it has good teachers. My concern is administration, mainly the Principal likes to exaggerate and is very harsh. One day I saw a little girl come into the office complaining of stomach ache, the Principal quickly dismissed her to leave and go back to the class without checking her or asking any questions. The school desperately needs a full time nurse. Other concern is the large amount of homework that doesn't allow us much quality family time as the kids work from the time they get home till its time for bed. Also very little recess time, especially for the younger kids.

Leadership starts at the top and the current Principal is harsh and exaggerates to get her way. It's important to understand and be more understanding to children's behavior because currently the harsh manner will increase the risk of children becoming more aggressive and unresponsive because they will feel like they are not wanted and become misunderstood.

My son had dysgraphia and Principal stated it wasn't a disability. Yet his teacher was the one who pointed it out. He saw a professional that dealt with it and he certified it but Principal dismissed it as invalid.

We have three children at EKHLA and feel very strongly that they are getting a stellar education. Over the last five years we have had wonderful teachers and only one (who no longer works there) that was not up to par. The students are nurtured, supported and respected and they are held to high standards both in their behavior and in their academics. The coursework is rigorous as is the homework, but their teachers are always ready and willing to spend extra time outside of school to tutor their students. The Principal is honest and doesn't mince words, yet the students love her warmth and personal attention. To top it all off, they are learning Hebrew daily, which is just the cherry on top. We are very happy at EKHLA.

An Amazing school with one on one student attention. Dedicated Teachers and a friendly and caring staff. The 3 level Hebrew class is great and can be easily learned by any child having no previous Hebrew. A great private school feel, with after school enrichment programs, and wonderful Character Development. A great nurturing school for my 4 kids with all very different learning styles. Very happy !

Unless your child is smart already you can forget any support. They lack the initiative and ability to help students of varying abilities. Their answer is simple...hold the child back. Their hold back rate is above average but you won't see this because parents get fed up with administration and go someplace else.

The Hebrew homework is terrible. Parents have no clue how to help the students unless they already know Hebrew. Tutoring is rare and ineffective unless you can pay for it yourself.

The homework on average is more challenging per grade level than homework my daughter's friends bring home that attend other private and public schools, but her overall academic knowledge is better so we are on board with the level of difficulty she has. It's nothing that is outside of that particular age groups capability.

My child has attended EKHLA for four years. Each day the children are greeted by the vice principal, principal, one of the Hebrew teachers, Dads of Great Students and a police officer. These student are treated with respect and compassion. The children are expected to follow the school's policies. Enrollment continues to grow. This school does not allow disrespect and they are very protective of their students. The home room teachers love their students. It is wonderful to know they also have a mentoring program that is part of their character development program. From K-8 grade student learn Hebrew. Tutors are available to help struggling students. BTW the principal also tutors students after school. The school is academic oriented. They have wonderful after school programs -chess club, art club, violin, and soccer. For one student that is taken away, there has alway been a waiting list to replace the empty chair.

Children are learning so much everyday!! My child loves their teacher and is excited to go to school every morning. The Principal is always happy to meet with parents and is amazing in being very frank in issues and successes of my child. I have heard she is this way with other parents as well. All the teachers are invested in the children. They want the best for the students and from the students.

The Principle decides to talk with parents while they are in their car in the drop off line holding up the line for parents trying to drop off a student ultimately resulting in tardies. Note that she sent all parents a letter to "not" hold up the car drop off line by getting out of our vehicle to help our children get out as a staff member will help our children out of our vehicles. She usually is that staff member and on several occasions has been the one to hold up the line. I have heard other examples of how she leads by example, however I am only posting that which I have witnessed. Of the teachers I have experience with, the homeroom teachers do not seem to be very organized. The Hebrew, Ethics teachers are AMAZING. I and many other parents do not feel our children are receiving the attention needed to succeed. Some grades failed standardized testing last year. I hope they can turn things around very soon because the kids need help.
