It has been three years and I am going to finally write my review. Back when my son was in sixth grade special education 2022-2023 it started off ok. As the year went by the vice principal at the time as well as the teacher/aids seem to already not care about how my child learned or what he did. Having 29 students with only 2 aids and one teacher I can see where it took a turn. The teachers aids had their favorites and unfortunately treated my kid like he was just an inconvenience. Yea my son wasn’t perfect and did have some aggression but that’s why you take the time with him not just throw him in the corner with his iPad. In the month of May with only a month and half left the vice principal and teacher/staff called it quits for my son. The fact that a NISD SCHOOL turned my child away when that district alone is meant to help children like my son. Not to give up or have him been forgotten. The vice principal would call leaving voicemails saying absurd things about my child and the aids would always give me and my son the cold shoulder when it was time for pick up or drop off. My son is a FRESHMAN now at IDEA!! IDEA!! How is it that a school like idea with its strict policies and curriculum that he has been there for 3 years now and a school like FOLKS MIDDLE SCHOOL NISD failed my son. It was not school the school is beautiful but it was the STAFF who failed my child and another child that I happen to run into at idea who also pulled out her daughter due the vice principal and staff.

There is a lot of bullying that goes unchecked and nobody seems to care about it. Nursing staff make you feel like you are an inconvenience the entire time you’re there. I really like my teachers though. Shout out to Mrs.Bradly (history), Mr.Wong (math), and Ms.Ford (theatre) they make learning fun and I look forward to their classes.

The school really speaks for itself. No disappointment here at all. The neighborhood is great which reflects in the kids. My kids love it here. People look out for each other. Really feels like a community here.

It was a 7 out of 10. It was fun and enjoyable but not challenging enough, also Sharon Sanchez(6th Ela) was rude and would "lose" the papers of students she didn't like. Also, bullying was not addressed very well

Barely homework all which did not allow students to really grasp knowlege

I love that new students have a "friend" when they first arrive to help meet other students, learn their way around & not to have to eat lunch alone. To any child starting a new school and being the new kid can be difficult.. Its great that the school encourages this buddy system (if you wish to call it that).

My son is in a pilot program for History and that is one of his worse subjects. he is thriving in it

Some classes give more homework than others. I believe its too early to make a determination on the amount

My kids have gone to Folks since it has opened. My daughter has since moved on to HS and was ready to participate in everything through all the things she learned at Folks. My son in now there and is in a pilot program in History. He is thriving and wanting to stay up to do homework where when he was in Elementary he struggled. He has found the learning environment inviting and the faculty and staff welcoming. Great School not to mention it is a School of Excellence.

Teachers are nice! The school layout is easy to navigate!
Folks is a great school for families and to make new friends!
Office staff is super nice and so are the counselors! The counselors are outstanding and very helpful!

Given the heavy reliance on the students having their own technology (smart phones) in the classroom in order to do work, my daughter probably has more homework than other student. There is only one computer in each class for the students who do not have technology to use...and from what I have seen, the majority of "reaching" consists of "Google This"..

Posted: May 26, 2015

Teachers use of technology is not used to enhance teaching only replace it. This may be average for the area, but we moved into the district and found this school to be behind where our daughter was in her instruction in Colorado. The teachers rely too heavily on the students using their smart phones to look up things and the administration is top heavy. Too many administrators and councillors drive up the cost instead of value.
