While many of the middle school teachers work very hard to communicate with families and build positive relationships with students, the school has not been consistent with overall communication. In my experience, special education services are a significant concern. Students do not always receive the support and accommodations they need, and there appears to be a lack of accountability regarding service minutes.
Another concern is the transition to high school. Students seem to be strongly pushed toward the IB program, even though many may not ultimately earn the IB diploma or AP credit its very very few that receive it 90% don't. Families can feel as though their options are limited if the program is not the right fit for their child. You are better going into a different IB program in San Antonio or Early College Program.
There also appears to be a disconnect between the middle school and high school, making it feel like two separate schools. The emphasis on STAAR test preparation often seems to take priority over meeting the individualized needs of students, particularly those receiving special education services.
Despite these concerns, I have built positive relationships with several teachers across both the middle school and high school. Those educators have been supportive, dedicated, and committed to helping students succeed. My hope is that the school improves consistency in communication, strengthens special education services, and provides more balanced academic pathways for all students.
