School is very boring and the homework is overbearing and the teaching is not helpful there are only like 3 teachers who are good shout to MR.chase,Mr.massiatte,mrs.James, and last but not least the goat the chosen one Mr.west

The school has a philosophy where the kids themselves teach the classes, largely absolving the teachers of responsibility for teaching (or understanding) the subject matter. This might be ok for literature and history, but it fails miserably in math and science. They rely on the students to learn the material directly from the book and then explain it to the class, with minimal guidance. For example, rather than learning practical geometry, learning theorems, solving problems, completing proofs, students instead memorize a 100 year old translation of Euclid's two thousand year old text. They won’t apply this knowledge, they just memorize and regurgitate. This turns math into another language course, as students struggle to understand the antiquated syntax.

The teachers seem to rotate between subjects, one year teaching literature, the next year science, the next math. They do not usually have formal qualifications in the subjects they teach (particularly true in math and science). They rely on books and a handful of excellent students to learn from those books and then share their knowledge with the class. They choose questionable texts, like Euclid’s book. In science, the curriculum is weak and slanted—Biology, for example, is introduced via the work of a Christian philosopher who complains that science can’t reveal the meaning of life.

If you think your kids might like to become engineers or scientists or doctors, look for another school. If you value diversity, look for another school. This is the school that made national news with the “list the pros and cons of slavery” 8th grade homework assignment and yes, that teacher is still on staff.

To sum up: These teachers mostly do not have formal qualifications in any subject they teach, and many have some genuinely bad ideas. Their devotion to an obsolete philosophy of learning demonstrates why most of the world has abandoned such methods.

It has been an excellent and complete education for our grandkids. They have flourished. Academically it is a challenge but there is plenty of help and support. Students are engaged and teachers are quit uniquely skilled. Children graduate not only with a top-rate education but with excellent character skills as well, something often very much lacking in typical public schools.

Very challenging. I WOULD NOT send my child here if I had other options. Unless your child is already gifted and excelled academically, they aren’t going to flourish here

The students have way too much homework and there is no follow up.

Most of the teachers at this school are not certified teachers and it shows. They are not effective with students that actually need help, they are just there to praise the ones who academically gifted and help them flourish. That’s how they weed out the students

They have a high turnover rate in leadership roles at this school

They do not support children with disabilities or Learning disabled. They don’t have the staff to support them so they throw them in the gen ed classes with teachers who aren’t certified. Students fall through the cracks and get ignored. The turnover rate for special ed teachers it’s just as high as the regular staff. They get sick of the district not following the requirements and constantly bumping heads. As a result, the kids suffer

They deal with bullying accordingly BUT you have to be proactive as a parent. Otherwise, nothing will happen

It is decent, I wish there was AP/PreAp classes since some classes are the same as a public school(not challenging enough) and more awareness of the students. I also wish they would only accept students who want and care about getting a good education, and also have better technology for students to use since there is none right now.

The teachers fail to recognize bullying or hurtful things sometimes or take teasing as serious bullying when it is just playful

Some Teachers failed to take disciplinary actions when they heard or saw disrespectful or hurtful actions or words from students made to other students.

Overall I would rate this school below average because they failed to provide the STAAR academic gains projected for gifted and Advanced Master Level achieving type students. This school also lacks resources in the technology department and their grading system is questionable and flawed/invalid/ inequitable The only positive things I saw was they made the kids wear nice school uniforms and one of the teachers played the bag pipes outside in the morning as students came in to school. This school is also very limited in their course and extracurricular choices.

They provide a lot of memorization type homework which did not correlate nor result to any common core learning achievements.

State STAAR projected progress results showed little learning gains had taken place during the school year at Great Hearts despite loads of memorization type homework compared to Student progress in previous district schools.

This is an excellent school because they focus on the most important subjects as well as effectively eliminating bullying

This was the first year my child attended this school. I have seen great improvement in critical thinking skills.
