My son has been here 2 years now and I have heard nothing but great things. His teachers are very responsive and are passionate about their students learning . The principal and Vice principals are great as well, they are active in keeping our kids safe and I see their pride for their school. I am happy my son is going to a great school.

I would describe this school a dirty and not clean school. From what I heard from others parents there are vape pens and who knows what else found on the floor and in the trash in the restrooms of this school. Harlen high school has really poor monitoring by leaving the exterior doors unlocked and the interior gym doors unlocked in which students are able go to the restroom inside the gym while none of the staff are there. Harlen high school has very poor communication skills. Every time I try to call the school whether its for the attendance, counselors, or administrators I can never get them on the phone after leaving emails and voicemails. The administrators to Harlen high school stay stuck to their chair where they just cant get up and give the message from the parents. When you finally get on the phone with the administrators they wont hear you out, they always try to talk over you. Harlen high school could be a better school if they get new administrators that actually do their jobs and care about the students. On November 28, 2023 Tuesday at 2 a.m. the Principal at Harlen high school Richard Yzaguirre, was charged with DWI. How they expect the students to Harlen high to listen to administration if they cant even do their own jobs. Save your kids from Harlen high school they deserve so much more and a better education. I am withdrawing my child this was her first year there and some many bad things happened at the school.

The school is great overall. So not all of the teachers are great but the ones my kid has have gone beyond my expectations. I feel blessed to have them going there.

My daughter had a great experience. Lots of support and enrichment in a family friendly environment. Teachers, counselors and administrators are very responsive and sincere. There are many innovative, student opportunities at Harlan that other schools have replicated. Mr Harris, Mr Y and Mrs Tapia have built a great campus culture where all students have the opportunity to excel.

Moved here 1 year ago from California. I have 2 high schoolers. i love Harlan. Nothing but good feedback from my kids and they have great grades. Like anywhere else, it about who you are who you hang out with. I have no troubles in that department with my kids. Highly recommend.

honestly used to be a great school, now its full of drugs, crime, threats, and police dogs, constant fights and a terrible environment, dont send your kids here if you have the choice, as a student it is torture, the admin do nothing about 19 year olds that sexually assault women but will do everything to keep someone who was stabbed on campus away because "she is a danger" everything is so backwards but i do have some good things to say, the teachers are great, Ms Trevino, Ms Castaneda, Mr Farmer and Ms Bannert are some of the most influencial and best teachers ever, they care about their students and are passionate for teaching, if your child is mature and wont get caught up in anything then send your child here, other wise just dont

Harlan is a great school compared to many other north side schools! They are a fairly new school that just opened in 2017 so I feel thats why their score is lower than other similar schools. But their academics are much more challenging than schools such as Taft or Clark. They have many ways of getting involved and even have classes such as clinicals to get students a head start in their careers. Once this school has been around longer the score will definitely be above average. Any parent will be beyond happy to have their student go here.

I have 3 kids at Harlan. All of them love the school and teachers, they take ap classes and dual credit classes. Moving from Illinois the schools are so much better here. I highly recommend this school and are glad we live in the district. My daughter has a friend and her mother drives her 40 minutes one way just to go to this school because she likes it so much.

This is the perfect school for my kids. I love the neighborhood, especially my neighbors. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, even the HOA staff. Everyone really look out for each other here.

Our daughter has been very happy at Harlan. She has been enjoying 0 bulling.
Kids seem more respectful I have to admit that is thanks to their parents.
Teachers are right on task and the principal is a very nice person.
Hopefully they keep accepting only students in the boundaries.
Once you start accepting kids from other areas is when you get the ones they are disrespectful, cause trouble, bully, and start bringing bad stuff to our schools.

The leadership, coaches and teachers at this school work together to ensure students are successful. They educate the whole child and do not cater to athletes. My son is an athlete and expected to have good grades and behaviors like everyone else. Excellent Job Harlan HS and Administration.

When it comes to bullying. If you know that someone is trying to bully go to a teacher, or go up to someone you trust and hopefully things can get taken place. Normally teachers will see a group of kids gathering around if it does come to like bullying. Teachers do stop students and normally students know they know its not a good thing. Which is why a lot of people try not to bully others and/or anyone. We are the hawks. And Hawks don't bully.

A lot of times they gather around teacher by teacher just to think how they can help everyone around the school. Every teacher waits, talks to you, respects you, and tries to challenge you to see if you'll get better. If they don't find you ready to move on learning something else, they will repeat communications or instructions and what such if needed. IF your student or your child whichever you want to say. The teacher always understands what's going on and what isn't. They will help, just make sure your student steps up. Remember how can they help you if you don't step up and speak up?

Students are more respectful then any body else. If they see something is wrong they will nicely say "you might not want to do that" because they know that it can be bad or it can be just rather not do it. And since a lot of people are respectful that's also why a lot of us can be quiet, get along, and watch out for our school.We for a matter of fact know that if we were to turned out the opposite then we are right now, then we wouldn't be getting along and having normal respectful calm communications with one or another.

Leaderships is always a great thing. And knowing that everyone here is a leadership always helps one person to the next. If you need help, they will help. Leadership cheers you on and if it doesn't help just know that they will understand if you do want to talk about your problems.

learning is a good thing. And knowing that if you face what your career is, and if you change your mind. You still have time but just make sure that's what you really want. And if you think you want that, I would say just get your classes done, pay attention, learn but take notes, record things if needed. And hopefully you'll get your education, but just know that sometimes being mad is a good thing just try to stay calm and try to learn. If you need help let someone know. They will help you. Just don't be shy.

My experience is really actually. I haven't been bullied at all. I've actually been getting some help, and been having really nice friends. Like a lot of times my friends see something and they will say "don't look that way, right now isn't a good time" but that's because they know that if they think or know that it's wrong, then they'll something and they just say its for my own good. And sometimes it's just easier of me having friends that can back me up and help me. And yes indeed they are a lot of great things here that you can learn from.

Homework is sometimes good and a bad thing but mostly a good thing in my opinion. Doing homework, is a little like a practice as to whether you want to show what you know or don't know. I would say show what you do know and don't know. Just give the truth and somehow the more you do it the better you'll get just by seeing what your mistakes are and what you need help with.
