The staff changes every year which tells me there is a serious problem with upper management. Im not confident with the changing of staff every year which tells my son & I there is no stability with in the Kipp structure. New staff comes in with an attitude and something to prove to parents instead of the demeanor that they are their to work as a team with you for the greater good of the child's success in education. Sanchez & Munoz have definitely made an enemy out of me during the first 3 days of school. Surely shouldn't be the goal.

Im looking to transfer my son out of Kipp & file a complaint w/ TEA.

My student loves his school. Our experience has been a blessing to say the least. My son has transitioned from middle school to high school with confidence, genuine connections, and assurance of safety. We look forward to more extracurricular activities next year and overall great memories at Kipp.

Ive had a really positive experience at my school. The teachers and staff genuinely care about students and want to see us succeed, both academically and personally. There are so many opportunities to get involved through clubs, extracurriculars, and leadership roles, which has helped me grow a lot over the years. The school creates a supportive environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves and prepare for their future. Im grateful for the experiences, friendships, and lessons Ive gained here, and I would definitely recommend this school to others.

While the school undeniably exceeds at giving students resources to go to college. One of the major flaws are the restrooms and how the school handles it. The restrooms are open in a schedule, meaning students cant go to the restroom when they can. The staff often forgets to open the restrooms when they should be open and even if the restrooms are open they are either under maintenance or getting cleaned. I feel the school doesnt do enough to prevent students from vandalizing the restrooms. This basically encourages students to hold it in for the rest of the day.

It's alright, but the school will likely continue to get worse in terms of options such as electives being reduced to art and possibly one other. Teachers from those electives are leaving and some student currently here might also leave, so, unless electives aren't removed or return at some other point, I wouldn't likely be here.

Personally I was able to learn a lot from the curriculum and teachers. The teachers that I had definitely made my experience better at this school. They were very supportive and kind, with a few exceptions.

In this school individuals are guaranteed opportunities to be their own person and encouraged to become their best versions of themselves. This school never falls short in expectations whether it be guidance , encouragement, teaching and other skills. Every teacher at Kipp are happy to be with the students and guide them to be successful.

KIPP Somos Collegiate has been the best school I couldve ever gone to. Ive been here for four years, and now that Im a senior about to graduate, I can honestly say this school changed me in the best way. Its more than just a school its a place where people actually care about you, push you, and want to see you win. The teachers and staff here are different. They dont just show up to teach; they show up because they want us to succeed. Every year I felt supported, challenged, and motivated to be better. I grew as a student and as a person, and thats because of the environment they built here. One person I have to talk about is Mr. Olvera. He is the best counselor Ive ever had. Hes kind, patient, and always there when you need him. He listens, he understands, and he never makes you feel alone. Anytime I needed help with school, college stuff, or even personal things he was there. Im truly grateful for him because he made a huge impact on my high school experience. I also want to shout out Mr. Gray, our principal. Hes one of the nicest and most supportive principals Ive ever met. Hes always around, always checking in, and always making sure students feel seen and respected. You can tell he cares about the school and the students, and that makes a big difference. All the teachers and staff at Somos deserve credit. Theyre hardworking, respectful, and they treat students like real people. They push you when you need it and help you when youre struggling. They made these four years something Ill never forget. As I get ready to graduate, Im grateful for everything this school gave me the lessons, the support, the people, and the memories. KIPP Somos Collegiate will always be a big part of my life. Im proud to say I spent my high school years here, and Im thankful for everyone who helped me along the way.

It has been my childrens experience while attending Kipp Somos collegiate, that while most of their teachers have and are supportive of their students and wonderful educators, there are some who he by and are allowed to discriminate with very little repercussion. Weve had two instances with teachers who have displayed discriminatory behavior. The initial complaint happened last year, where my child was discriminated against, harassed, and bullied by her teacher. When this was brought up to administration, this same teacher was rewarded while my daughter was punished. Nothing but a slap on the wrist was given to the teacher and my child was forced to remove herself and drop the class. My daughter was the adult in this situation yet she was made to feel as if she was the problem. Even after leaving said class, the harassment continued until the teacher left for undisclosed reasons. Now this school year weve run into another teacher who was discriminatory against students and my childs peers in the classroom. When I addressed the issue to proper staff, I was told Id receive a call from admin. Never received a call, and the only reason why teacher is no longer there as of now is because he quit, walking out and abruptly leaving students unattended. My concerns have not been addressed and I dont see that they ever will now, months later. We love Kipp because they are capable of offering success to our children. Kipp has amazing teachers. The best! But Kipp also allows the bad ones to get away with discrimination, dangerous language, and concerning behavior towards their own students. Our children should feel safe to go to school and learn. They shouldnt feel unsafe and is their voices arent being heard, or worse, dont matter. Because of the other beyond amazing teachers and staff, we have chosen to stay. These educators have outweighed the bad apples, that is the unconcerned administrator, and two (so far) failed educators.

This school district did start out as a great district 8 years ago. A steady decline in actual classes that traditional schools provide, are not found in this district, anywhere. Athletic programs are minimal, and not UIL, and so, athletic scholarships are pretty much void. Also, clubs, such as 4 H, or German, Spanish clubs are void, as the school first even push a foreign language requirement to any grade, and not even a French option, as foreign language is preferred at 3 years for college admissions. Also, lack of actual early career planning is void here. Avoid these schools if you want your child to even qualify for a college as the recent court decisions have made it almost impossible for many to attend college.
