We would like to see Mr. Coleman back and Would like to see more leeway given to high schoolers and more electives and options regarding English and history as well as more STEM education and technological education especially in Austin! Also, more breaks for upper schoolers would be nice. Valor is a decent school without all the propaganda of the public education system and better promotion for free speech and ability for students to question things and not be immediately dismissed as a conspiracy theory. Location is not ideal for anyone. I-35 is loud and dirty and in wells branch there may be an occasional dumpster fire. Activities are decent. Sports tryouts may have a bit of bias involved. The lunches are worse than airplane food. Communication could improve a lot. But overall I would recommend.

I have three sons enrolled at Valor, and they absolutely love it. The quality of education is exceptional, and the teachers have been truly amazing. My kids genuinely dislike summer holidays because they miss being at school so much.

Contrary to what some might think, our experience has not been that Valor is unreasonably strict. Instead, Valor effectively creates a focused learning environment, especially important at a time when children are easily distracted by social media, video games, and television. Valor was ahead of the curve in implementing a no-phone policy at school, recognizing early how vital this is for student focus and academic success.

Academically, my sons consistently perform well ahead of their peers who attend other schools. If you're looking for a well-rounded education coupled with an outstanding student experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Valor.

I have two sons at Valor. My experience with the school has been nothing but positive. Both children look forward to going to school, and come home every day excited about what they've learned. Whatever Valor is doing to instill a love of learning is working. They both love phonics and math, and teach it to one another for fun at home. They've memorized poems which they recite for fun. They're both learning Latin, which Valor starts in kindergarten. Sometimes I'm shocked that the school is free, as it feels like an expensive private school.

I can't put into words how grateful I am that Valor exists, and how fortunate my sons are for the chance to learn there.

This school is a total lie. Everything they stand for is a lie. Beware. They say pretty things, but what they do behind closed doors is a very different story. They kids are publicly shamed as a form of discipline, they school promotes punitive forms of discipline. The kids are frequently losing recess time for talking in line or USING THE BATHROOM outside of the "designated times." The administration goes on full power trips with the students. It's sickening. They blatantly discriminate against disabled children, BIPOC students and religious minorities. The communication is severely lacking. I had no clue one of my kids was struggling academically until well into the second semester. Some of the teachers are truly wonderful, but sadly these ones are leaving one by one in favor of teachers who will abide by the schools authoritarian/militant standards. The kids aren't walking in neat quiet lines out of a desire to do good, instead it's out of sheer terror. One of my kids has been frequently yelled at and tells me everyday that she no longer wants to go to school. Over the two years my three kids have been there I have slowly watched their light dim. They are so beaten down by this school that they come home and explode. They are extremely triggered by anyone using the slightest stern tone now because it's all they get all day long. I was such an advocate for this school in our first year. I sung it's praises and I feel like I have failed my children. It honestly breaks my heart because they have made some wonderful friends here but I can not in good conscious remain silent any longer. This is a fundamentalist christian school pretending to be a secular public charter school. What they say and what they DO are two very different things. I would not be surprised if it was shut down. They are excellent are marketing. One of my kids has been diagnosed with Adjustment disorder with anxiety, which is a reaction to a stressor in the environment - when the stressor goes away the disorder goes away - in her case the clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist feels confident the stressor is her school environment. She has started struggling with feelings of inadequacy, low self worth, anxiety, depression, nervousness and stress. She was being physically assaulted by another student and she was just told to play with someone else. I was not informed by her teacher. Seriously, trust your gut. Do not send your kids here. It's not worth it, no matter how shiny it looks.

Parents beware!! This schools main objective is to punish children into doing the right thing. If you want a military style environment then this is the school for you. If you believe in positive reinforcement and encouragement to learn, then stay away from this place. They hide behind the word virtue all the time to push their strict religious ideology onto the children, but of course have to hide it with other terminology since religion is not supposed to be discussed in a public Texas school. Even the teachers seem like they are afraid to work there. I dont ever want my child to be afraid of going to school again, that is not what the school system should be about. It should be about excitement and encouragement and this school is none of that. I have emailed and called on several occasions with different questions and concerns and I almost never get a response. The culture at the school is all about discipline and not so much about academics. My child is already a very disciplined kid since that is something that should come from the parents and I understand school has to have discipline standards as well, but when it becomes the main focus that is a problem. Academics are not challenging enough instead the children are just worried about not getting in trouble even for coughing too loud. That is correct, they can get in trouble for couching too loud. Just do yourselves favor and look for other choices, which luckily there are plenty in Austin.
